      Comments about REI UltraPod Tripod:

Very versitile product. The tripod mount on my camera is offset, so this product is great for post mounting. I can get portrait or landscape shots when mounted to a vertical post or branch. I also use the velcro strap to mount the tripod to my camera case strap and bike frame for transporting.

        Comments about REI UltraPod Tripod:

I've had my UltraPod so long that I don't remember when I got it, probably when REI started carrying it in branded form. I used to use it with my Pentax SLR, but now it goes everywhere my Canon digital pocket camera goes, even if I don't think I'll need it. Friends have purchased one after seeing me use mine. The only downside is the time it takes to re-wrap the velcro strap when stowing the unit - not a big deal. It is not suitable for large/heavy cameras, but is superb for standard pocket-size digital cameras. The flexibility of the mounting mechanism is better than conventional swivel-heads. Highly recommended.

        Comments about REI UltraPod Tripod:

i am an avid backpacker always looking for a light weight solution. While not the do-all solution of a full size tripod, this unit has 90% of the utility you would need in a tripod on a backpacking trip, especially in forests where you can mount to a tree! This thing is so light and small I do not feel it in my pack, in fact it fits in my small camera pack. I do not use a tiny camera but a medium sized ultra zoom camera. It holds up to the 10 oz weight just fine. The only minor complaint is that the mounting is a little cumbersome. I love this product!

          Comments about REI UltraPod Tripod:

The Ultrapod is a great little tripod, especially now that digital cameras and cameras in general are getting smaller and more compact and lightweight. I bought my Ultrapod over a decade ago and I am still using it, which attests to it's durability and continued utility. The only part that I've had to replace was the Velcro strap which eventually wore out and frayed. I've traveled around the world with my Ultrapod and put it to some demanding use too.

I have tried various other clever mini-tripods which are sturdier (metal construction), heavier, and more expensive, but I have come back to the Ultrapod in the end. After hassles at security checkpoints about metal tripods with "sharp" feet, lugging the extra weight around, and missing the simple versatility of the Velcro attachment strap.

What makes the Ultrapod a perfect fit into my life is that I often travel by myself. With an Ultrapod and a self-timer on my camera, I've been able to document my adventures without other (often unreliable amateur) photographers around. I usually just leave the Ultrapod permanently attached to my main digital camera, using it like a camera handle. I can set it up for a tripod shot in a few seconds, and just as useful is the Velcro strap which makes all signs, poles, railings, barred fences, and tree branches potential attachment points for the camera. And sometimes I just stick the legs right into sand or snow.

Now, if you have a trekking pole or a ski pole handy, by using your imagination, the Ultrapod and the self-timer feature on your camera, you can use it to take snapshots from some really unique perspectives (like a shot of you on a hotel balcony from a point in midair, a shot of a patterned floor under a rotunda from 12 ft above, or a view of a vast crowd from a high vantage point without leaving the ground).

The Ultrapod is durable, compact, weighs almost nothing, but can be adapted to so many uses (not only for cameras). I've been reading photography blogs where pros have been using Ultrapods to mount directional lighting, umbrellas, and other accessories at photo-shoots.

I have added the Ultrapod Adapter (a button-rail clip on device) which allows me to quickly add/remove several of my most frequently used devices onto the Ultrapod, like my camera, my GPS, my monocular, and my camera phone/organizer. Attached to my trekking pole, it allows me to have a device ready hands-free.

            Comments about REI UltraPod Tripod:

The Ultrapod is a great little tripod for point and shoot digital cameras. It folds up and is ultra portable. The velcro strap is great for attaching the tripod to a pole or tree or whatever. You can bascially aim it any direction you want.

One con - If your camera is on the heavy side, this tripod might be a little too lightweight.
