I love it! I'm in the military and have deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan and when you're on a mission it just doesn't make sense to "pop a squat"...especially wearing body armor. Besides, who wants to be caught with their pants down (literally) when the bullets start to fly? I had to purchase my own but my unit now issues them to all females. This has saved my bladder and dignity several times!

I first used this during a 4-day Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu (so I called it my Macho Pee-Shooter) and now I won't leave home without it. It saved me from nasty toilets and from getting out of my tent at night in pouring rain. I kept an empty water bottle to use with it in my tent. Since I wasn't always able to rinse it off after use, I carried it wrapped in a bandana, in a zip-loc bag; the bandana also kept it from poking any holes in the bag. As advised elsewhere, I wore pantyliners to avoid the need for toilet paper; most of the drips will fall into the funnel as you pull it forward when finished. Just carry wipes for your hands. I never had any trouble using the device --- no leaks or messes. I did try it in the shower at home first, just to be sure I could use it successfully. Get one! You'll wonder how you ever went without it!

Same Here! I was gathering up my gear for my trip to Machu Picchu when I saw this device and thought, this could be the answer to the ever perplexing peeing on the trail dilemna! (esp since my friends had just come back from the the same trip with reports of less than glamorous sanitary conditions)...I too used it on the trail and in the tent (and let me say that on the day it rained for 24 straight hours it was a joy not to have to a) squat in a wet bush or b) get out of my tent and make the trek to “the bathroom”) I cannot recommend this product highly enough! If you like to hike, trek, or go anywhere, take it with you because then you really can “go” anywhere! (PS...good idea trying it in the shower! I was braver, I tried it right in the toilet and my cat stood by watching in utter amazement!!!)

great for girls with small bladders who always seem to be looking for a large bush with no snakes. Also great for the average female traveler who ends up in wide open trails with no guarantee of privacy from fellow hikers. Very easy to insert in pants just by unzipping...but then you have to put it away dirty or use your drinking water (do you really want to waste it though?) . I never minded this, but there is one drawback to be aware of... Flimsy plastic breaks easy in a full pack! I taped mine back together for emergency use, but in hindsight I'd probably have bought a spare to begin with!

This product is something we women have needed since the beginning of time. Because peeing accurately and conveniently is about the only thing that men can do better than women, the freshette equalizes things so that anatomy is not destiny, at least in this regard. However, although the concept is good, the design needs improvement. I don't recall getting the instructions, mentioned above, when I got mine, and since I don't know anyone else who has one or who wants to chat about it, I haven't been able to compare notes. I find it difficult to use the freshette tidily on a consistent basis (maybe reading some instructions would help), and if I haven't used it for a while, it's very easy to use it wrong and make a bit of a mess. I've had mine for years and still cannot always use it without leaks in the wrong direction. Until this gizmo is designed for more reliable, goof-proof performance without instructions, the basic problem for women peeing in the woods is not completely solved.

This is the handiest gadget. I never make it through the night without having to "go". I use this with a narrow-mouthed securely-closing bottle instead of taking those cold walks in the dark at 3 AM. In the morning, I carry my (opaque!) "water bottle" to the bathroom with me and empty it in the toilet. No body is the wiser.
For use in the tent, strategically place a paper towel to catch any drips.
Only (very minor) con is that the handy ziploc plastic carrier is a little too small. Now I wrap it in a paper towel and put in my own ziploc bag after use. If you trim the sharp-pointy end off the tube it will prevent it from puncturing the bag (and works just fine without the sharp point).
Can't believe I waited so long to get one.

Okay, I felt really bad for my sweetie because she really hates using public restrooms, especially in campgrounds and porta-potties. She said she envied me because I didn't have to sit to pee. She also hated leaving our VW Bus in the middle of the night to make a restroom trip and was jealous of the fact that I could just use a jug and never have to leave!

So I searched the REI.com site and came across the Freshette FUD. I laughed at first but decided to read the reviews. Wow! I read all of them and thought this was the answer for my sweetie's problem. Since I needed to get some cooking supplies from our local REI store I decided to get one of these feminine devices. I must admit, I did feel a little awkward being a man and buying one of these but if it would make my gal happier...

I presented my "gift" to her and she thought I had finally lost it. I explained how I sympathized with her situation and if she read all of the reviews on the REI.com web site as well as practiced at home I think she would benefit from it. So she did the reading and the practicing and figured it out very quickly...giggling the whole time.

We went car camping at a campground and she was able to use the Freshette FUD without a single issue. She was VERY happy about not having to sit on the toilet seat to pee. Success!

Normally I submit a photograph of our REI stuff in use but I think you'll understand if I refrain this time -- I don't want to get a black eye :-)

She said that the only thing weird about using the device in a public restroom is that her feet point in the wrong direction ;-)

You can be so discrete just like the guys and not have to find a fanny wide bush to hide behind...LOL. Practice at home a couple times to perfect you routine. Love it!!
