The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Adventure Medical SAM Splint:
I put this splint on a friend's ankle, and she walked out four miles over rough terrain. The splint was toast after that, but her ankle healed nicely!
The padding is great for wilderness applications.

Comments about Adventure Medical SAM Splint:
I fell during a hike in the Shenandoah and badly hurt my wrist. I didn't have anything to support it with, so I had to suffer through the rest of the hike. From now on I'm always carring one with me. Even if it won't tuck away in your first aid kit, carry one with you, you'll never know when you might need it. They offer more support than the wire mesh splints do. The 36 in. is big enough to splint a leg or immobilize an elbow. There are also smaller sizes avaiable for other extremities like wrists and fingers. Instructions are printed on the splint. Simply bend to shape and tape or wrap into place. Bend it back flat again to reuse.

Comments about Adventure Medical SAM Splint:
I have used SAM splints several times and they have always performed higher then my expectations! they can be used to splint just about any body part that requires immobilization, they are comfortable compared to other splinting materials, and they are extremely lightweight! The entire SAM splint product line is top notch. One of the greatest First Aid supplies out there for this purpose!

As a qualified walking group leader and trained mountain guide i carry one of these in my group first aid kit when taking groups into the mountains. Yes i could improvise but it weighs little and gives me peace of mind.

Comments about Adventure Medical SAM Splint:
I carry one my "First Aid Kit" (which is actually a mini version of a medic bag) when backpacking and hiking. True, one could improvise, but it doesn't weigh much and is handy to have.

Comments about Adventure Medical SAM Splint:
I'm the medic on my search and rescue team...I keep this at all times, because people tend to get lost in pretty stupid places, and my people can get hurt trying to get to them, or the victim hurt themselves getting lost. This is honestly the best hard splint you can have, especially considering how easy it is to pack. Use some self-adhering elastic wrap (sports wrap) and it is seriously unmatched for splinting outside of a real cast.

Comments about Adventure Medical SAM Splint:
On only the 2nd hiking day after I added this to my kit, one of my group fell and fractured her ankle in two places. This was a mile from a car in a slot canyon. There was no way we could have moved her without this splint. There was no material available for an improvised splint and no improvised splint could have worked well enough to let us extract her from such a challenging environment. If I hadn't had this with me then we would have had to get SAR involved. The splint gave us the freedom to move her leg around some and she was able to crawl up some climbs with the help of a haul system and gloves taped to her knees as knee pads. For me, this splint ended up being worth many many times the price. The victim said my SAM splint was more comfortable than the temporary fiberglass job she later received at the hospital.
Probably most people buy one of these after they need one in order to be ready next time. Do you and your group a favor and have one of these available before your first injury.

Comments about Adventure Medical SAM Splint:
We learned how to use these in our Wilderness First-Aid Course. They came highly recommended by the instructor, so I bought it for backpacking trips. They are fantastic! Just squeeze and bend to shape, then use gauze or non-stick tape or bandage to hold in place. Very easy and supports a sprained or broken limb very nicely.
Every serious backpacker/mountain climber should carry one in their kit!
