Comments about Fire Ribbon:
This is great stuff. Use it with matches or with a flint sparker and it lights right up. Will light wet or dry tinder. Scouts love it.

Comments about Fire Ribbon:
It took the whole tube to get our driftwood fire started on the Washington coast in March, but we had hot coco on a cold night and that counts for something. In dryer weather a tube would last for a number of fires. It's nice to know your going to get a fire started no matter what.

Comments about Fire Ribbon:
Rather than rely on large amounts of Fire Ribbon to get a fire going, put a dab inside cotton balls and store several inside a Coghlan's Plastic Matchbox. Tie floss to the first one in for an easy way to pull them free of the matchbox, fluff up the cotton ball in the midst of other tinder, and light. The additional heat from the Fire Ribbon helps dry out tinder, and lights easily by match, lighter, or FireSteel. For a really stubborn-to-light fire, use multiple cotton balls; several will fit in the matchbox.
It's not necessary to completely saturate the cotton balls, and in my experience, it may actually make it more difficult to light the ball with a FireSteel. Vaseline will work in place of Fire Ribbon, but I think Fire Ribbon burns hotter, although I haven't measured the heat produced.
I haven't stored treated cotton balls long enough to say how well the Fire Ribbon is preserved, as it may flash/dry out over time. If you use this method, you may want to refresh the Fire Ribbon occasionally, but given the small amount needed per cotton ball, a tube will last for years.

Comments about Fire Ribbon:
This product works very well. In fact, I have used it several times to start a fire on wet firewood and each time it worked like a champ. On one trip in Alaska, we were camping at a state park where is was raining on and off for several days. I used it on wet firewood and had a roaring fire going in 10 minutes.
