    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

This will hold down a tarp on a beach in huge winds. It doesn't hold up if you are thinking of using it is hard pack dirt.

        Comments about SMC Sno-Tent Stake:

These stakes are meant for snow or loose sand --- the kind that you can dig through with your hands. They will hold hard and fast. I use them with a non-freestanding tent that would fall over without staking it out.

Do not use these for sandy soil or regular soil. In those situations use regular stakes or tie off to rocks/trees. These stakes will bend.

Bottom Line: If you use them for their intended purpose, they work perfectly.

Used these several times on snow camping trips in the Cascades this winter - worked amazingly well! I haven't tried them in sand, but they sure do their job in the snow. Lightweight and easy to use.

Watch using these in the desert. If they find a rock they bend. Take a second set with you. You're going to go through them.

              Comments about SMC Sno-Tent Stake:

Just got back from using these for the first time camping at Lake Mead. The winds kicked up to about 40 mph with 55-60 mph gusts (according to the NWS), and these stakes held like cement. A few of them were pounded into loose sand, and a few went into firmer soil. All four held great. I used a small hammer to pound them and took it slow, so as not to bend them. No problems, and even the next morning I really had to pull to get these things out. They didn't even budge all night.

I've lost two tents already to the Mojave Desert windstorms, and wasn't about to lose anymore. The tent will shred and the poles will snap before these stakes let go. I don't recommend using them in regular soil, however. they would be difficult to pound in and retrieve.

                Comments about SMC Sno-Tent Stake:

I used this product this past weekend while camping on sandy beaches while canoeing the lower Wisconsin River. The stakes worked very well at holding the tent in place. However, I do agree that the stakes will bend if there are rocks in the sand but what do you expect...

                  A good, solid design.
I used these while camping on a windy beach in Assateague National Island Park, Maryland, USA. They held tightly in the sand while tents using regular stakes collapsed, and shelters using regular stakes rolled across the beach like tumbleweeds.

These stakes didn't move an inch. Still, I would like to see a somewhat longer version of these stakes for use in extremely high winds.
