I bought these pants from REI less than a year ago after reading about their incredible durability and all of the features. I Hoped to use them for hunting hiking/ general outdoor use. I bought them in store to be sure I could try different sizes. For $180 I wish I would have invested elsewhere. I have used them lightly and they are showing signs of wear everywhere. Stitching coming undone, frayed edges, hole in knee from light wear, not a puncture or snag. The breathable crotch fabric is coming undone and frayed as well. I am 6ft 180lbs. There isn’t room to move in these pants and no stretch means movement is restricted quite a lot making it uncomfortable to do what they’re intended for. The pockets are virtually useless aside from looking cool. Since they aren’t baffled you can only put thin items in there. Even with thin items (phone, keys etc) the pockets are so tight using them restricts movement even further. Making it feel like I might bend/break whatever is in my pocket if I have to bend. Also difficult to get anything out of your pockets because they’re so tight. Sitting down I cannot get anything out of the pockets. The crotch does not have enough room either. Constantly causing wedgies and smashing the twig and berries. Overall- not functional, not durable, not comfortable and expensive. The only pro is they look cool. My lightweight synthetic pants (outdoor research Ferrosi) have handled 10x the abuse and are much more comfortable and probably 1/4 the weight. Sad to say but regular old blue jeans hold up better, are more functional, and more comfortable. I wish I could get my $ back, they cost a full days work for me and have been a complete disappointment.
Wanted to clarify the sizing issue people are having. These come in a new fit. The old fit, like almost all clothing in the US, was vanity sized in the waist. So size 32 was actually 34", 34 was actually 36", etc. As stated on the product listing, the sizes have been adjusted and they recommend to size up from what you wore in the old fit. That's true - so now a 34 is 34", 36 is 36", etc. So no more vanity sizing. If you're in the range they recommend sizing up in, size up. It may also help to lay out your best fitting pair of pants. If the waist measures 17" across, double that to 34" for the actual waist, and go for a size 34. Hope this helps!
Just got the pants and they fit great , haven't got to wear them yet, but I'll check back in
Do you squat, deadlift, and never skip dessert? Do you have thicc thighs, horse hips, and a dumpy so juicy your girlfriend is jealous? I do. And much as I would like to like them, these pants don't work for me at all. The size that would fit my upper legs and butt/hips - which, incidentally, was two sizes larger than what I wear in other brands - was sadly saggy in the waist and left tons of fabric flapping around my lower legs. These pants might work for my more gracile friends, but fellow gym kings and/or food enjoyers, you have been warned. These pants are not for those with well-developed glutes, quads, and hams.
Love these pants, I was so sad when I scuffed them a little bit being stupid trying to move some chicken wire and the sharp ends scuffed my leg. I will never not think of that. I have worn these hiking and love wearing them every time. They are durable, have so many pockets that range in sizes that you can fit whatever you would need to. The water repellency is top notch, I wore them in the snow and slide down snowy trails many times with many rocks on the trail and no scuffs and was pretty much still dry. Wore them in the rain, and again was perfectly fine. I love these pants. Would definitely and will most likely buy again.
Love the Vida Pro Ventilated pants. Material sheds grime and water. Adjustable hem is a game changer. Plenty of room in the knees and seat, and flex material on the gusset also provides additional ventilation. Side vents zip from either the bottom or the top, which is great. Very full featured pant - not the lightest material, but very sturdy with plenty of venting. Great for work or the outdoors. Ignore all the whining about sizing - this is just from people who have become accustomed to US “vanity sizing.” Ignore the size you usually wear - take actual measurements. If you’ve got bigger hips/thighs/rear, they might feel too confining - but that’s the case for most non-US brands.
First I got the Vidda Pro jacket and fell in love with the G-1000 material, then I realized there are Vidda Pro pants and had to get a pair. I got the first Vidda Pro Ventilated trousers three summers ago to match my jacket and they've been my favourite pants since. The material is sturdy without the bulk and when waxed it feels awesome. My favourite part besides their utility in camping/daily pocket stuff is how awesome these pants look. The bottom cuff can be tightened and can change the look of the pants giving you an alternate style on the go. The ventilation panels are really nice as well, I use them often during the summer, zippers hold up too. Easy recommend.
I bought two pair and wore them exclusively for work, and on the weekend. Right off the brown pair, the zipper on the legs would break open in the middle. So I would have to force the mechanism over the zipper to make it close. The green pair did not do this. About 9 months into wearing them. both pair developed a hole in the knees. Not KOOL!!! So I had to patch them since I waited too long to return them. The waxing of them is a total joke. I put four layers on them both once. As I owned a Aussie Outback oil skin jacket once. And thought I would get the same performance. I did not at all!!! I walked through wet grass, got sprayed by water pipes. And all that happened was that the pants absorbed the water. Only a little bet ran off the fabric. Regardless, the more exposure I had to moisture, work related, the wetter I got. So the wax thing is a waste. I will never put it on them again. I also don't like the spandex in the crotch gusset area. That is a terrible fabric for that zone. Cold air just flows right across Mr. Right and Left! Non abrasion resistant as well. Just sew in a gusset and do away with the stretchy stuff!
It is impossible to buy these pants online as the size will literally CHANGE between pairs. I just bought a 2nd pair of these exact same pants in the exact same size as the first pair i purchased but the new ones were AT LEAST 2 sizes too small. Both pair are marked 50 EU long (US 34) and they are COMPLETELY different size. I have to return the new pair now with no option to replace them with a larger size.
I really like the pants, but no back pockets was a surprise. The fit information is incorrect. Saying to go up a size for EU 46-52 is a mistake. I typically wear size 50 (34US) and I bought size 52. I can button them but they are very tight and restrictive. I also would like to be able to remove the metal hooks on the inside of both cuffs. I'm sure they serve a purpose, but being solid metal right in line with my ankle bone didn't feel great.
