Amazing bag with one annoying issue
I’ve had the older version of the Raptor 14 and have loved it for years. Amazing bag for hiking and biking. The new bag is very similar to the old bag with upgrades in fabric that seems easier to clean. I’ve looked at other styles and have always come bag to this bag. One major issue from Osprey is the plastic sternum strap. These are IMPOSSIBLE to replace the plastic buckle on the rigid piping. If this breaks on your bag, they replace the piece easily but getting it back on the piping is nearly impossible. Outside of this plastic sternum buckle, I love this bag.
Better bike bag than I knew existed
This bag is expensive, but it is awesome. It has features I never knew I needed like the tool compartment and the hydration bladder compartment with a really easy hose zipper. It can hold a lot in relatively small space and with really useful pockets. It stays close to your back, the straps tighten down nicely, and the weight does not flop around at all. It is just a great design with high quality fabric and zippers.
perfect for shorter hikes
first hydration pack i've purchased and i love it. requirement for future hikes. purchased for shorter, <5 hour hikes, and it was the perfect size. Keeps moisture away from your back and is still supportive.
I recently tried the raptor
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently tried the raptor 14 update. This pack has some very cool new features that set it apart from the older edition. The hydration bag connection to the pack itself has a slip and lock feature that makes the hanger secure, and the tube and bite valve are ported through a zipper sleeve to the user. A continuous stretch pocket runs along the exterior of the pack that allows for small and large gear to be tightened down with a cinch down pull strap. A roll out tool bag that can also be handy for first aid. This bag is definitely the brain child of an active user.
Great pack
I carry enough tools and bits to be able to ride home in case of most mechanical issues, and this pack is a good size for that. It's also compact enough to not feel floppy. Taking a star off for the paper-thin Osprey hydration bag, which sprung a pinhole leak. Also, Osprey hydro bags give a strong plastic taste and smell, even a couple years later and after I've tried mitigating it by soaking vinegar and other methods. Otherwise, the pack is my favorite of *many* I've tried over the years.
Great except bladder
This is my 3rd raptor. Love the pack keeps getting better. The bladder is a PITA to fill so I use an old camelback one. Loose the zip top add a functional handle and you’ve got a great product.
Fits nicely, good compartments, tube too short
Love the way it fits, I primarily use this as a day hiking bag just because I prefer the fit on the shoulders as a tall woman. There are plenty of good storage options. The one issue is the hydration tube is too short and pokes me a bit in the neck and if I bend over / squat down to look at stuff, it pops off the magnet. Especially if I have it packed rather full. Also when the bladder is full it sits a bit pear shaped and I get pretty sweaty at the low back
Charged us $25 for parking to shop at their store
Nothing like us spending time and a lot of monry to plan out exactly what gear we want for them to charge us parking charges when we were shopping in their store. They refused to validate the parking when it was am open and empty lot at the time we visited the store. Yes we spent 2 hours and 6 minutes there to go over the different gear we wanted. But charging anyone $25 to shop at your store will make us not want to shop their again.
This was a gift for
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a gift for my nephew. I’ve owned my Raptor 14 pack for 5 years of heavy use. Simply put, it’s my top goto pack. The bite valve wears out over time, but is easily remedied with a Osprey replacement valve. I love this pack because it’s big enough to haul ample of water for long rides and carry warm clothing for when the sun drops and you have a long (and cold) descent back home.
Sub-par design.
The hip belt pockets won't even hold an average size smartphone (iPhone 14 in my case), and even if they were large enough, carrying a phone still wouldn't be an option as the material is very thin, not padded inside or out, and a phone would feel like a hard hunk of metal against my hips (see note about the Camelbak Skyline below). Also, in designing an MTB hydration pack that holds 14 L of gear, which is what I wanted, a 2.5 L water bag is too small - depending on temperature and accompanying safety concerns, I often fill my Camelbak Skyline's 3 L water bag to the top; unfortunately, its gear volume is only around 8 L, often too small for my needs; yet, the Skyline's hip belt pockets are significantly larger and padded on the inner side for comfort as well as for carrying a phone - I'm not even aware the phone is there. I'd read that Osprey packs were the best for reasons unknown...but that's the internet for you.
