Overall these Cross Hike 2 Mid GORE-TEX Hiking boots exceeded my expectations. I was stunned at how lightweight they were. I own several low-top Solomon Cross Hike shoes, X Ultra 4s and XA Pros, but this was the first Mid-style Solomon shoe I have ever owned. I typically steered away from the Mids because I appreciated the lightweight that the Lows provided. Frankly, there was not too much of a significant weight difference between the two styles. I had the ankle stability and grip of a military-style or construction boot with the breathability, weight, and comfort of a sneaker. These are genuinely water resistant. My feet remained dry while traversing through muddy gulches of tropical rainforests in Hawaii. This boot provides exceptional traction on slippery, slimy, mountainous terrains. I value the arch support and extra padding around the ankles. I have skinny feet, but I usually wear regular sizes, so my only complaint was that I had to tighten the lace strap so tight that the laces drug and annoyed me.
I've been wearing the Solomon Cross Hike 2 for about two weeks now on various types of terrain under different conditions. They are extremely comfortable, light weight and stable feeling boots with excellent grip. This is my second pair of Solomons and will not be my last. Solomon Speed Cross trail running shoes were my first pair and I have put a full year of wear and tear on them both on hiking trails and working AMA Supercross events. I have no doubt that my new Cross Hikes will hold up just as well!
I had these shoes as replacement, so they are out of warranty and can't be repalced. The shoes are comfortable and are better than many waterproof shoes, but are not at waterproof as leather shoes. Wetness of grass will eventually get in if walking for couple of hrs. But that is not the issue, the upper cracked as has week points where it folds. I have attache the photos to show how much was it used and where the upper started giving up. This is honest and practically feedback for the company, so that they can work on it and improve.

I have had these shoes for about two months. I have been really happy so far, but I went out last weekend in the rain and my feet got soaking wet. So much for being waterproof. This is the third pair of Salomon shoes (different models), in a row, that haven’t lived up to expectations. And they are expensive. I feel like you usually get what you pay for, but not with these. It’s disappointing because before these last three pairs, I have been really happy with over 20+ previous pairs of Salomon shoes and boots. It is what I have worn exclusive for the last 15 years. I think Salomon may be losing their way. I’m going to try some other brands next time.
This is my second review ~ I tested these shoes thoroughly ~ I start my walks at 4:30 AM every monring till 9:00 AM ~ Decided to test them the past two weeks in when the morning weather was between 30 & 35 degrees ~ I live outside, off grid, so I keep my shoes outside, and was able to stick my feet inside when the temperature was 30 degreess ~ I walked through wet grass, and some water, and it was freezing out, but the shoes held up; my toes felt the coldness or dampness, but they did NOT freeze ~ I was able to wear these shoes and stay outside for five (5) hours before my toes became cold, but they were not extremely cold ~ I wore a THIN pair of black socks, and didn't have any problems walking in the cold, damp weather for hours before going inside ~ I'm assuming, if I wear a pair of WOOL socks, my feet will be just fine, but I will also assume they sweat a little ~ When I use to put foot powder in my shoes, but I stoppped, these shoes do NOT need foot powder and they do not a good job of staying ODOR FREE! I keep my shoes on from 4:30 AM until I go to bed at 8:30 PM (I do loosen them up when inside to give my feet a rest ~ As mentioned, I do not suggest wearing these in the winter when it snowy & icy outside, but, when it's cold outside, below 38 degrees down to 30 degrees, these shoes are good ~ As with all pairs of shoes, if you stand on the back heel, they will wear down; otherwise, these are the best pair of light-weight boots I have ever worn, and for the past 20 years plus, I only wear Salomon boots ~ As mentioned again, in my previous post, I plan to buy three (3) pairs of these in April, The Red/Gold/Black assuming & hoping they're in stock ~ Thanks Salomon, I really do love these boots, they're light weight and built for speed ~ By the way, I'm sixty two (62) years of age, and still going...
These shoes arrived immediately after my wife and I experienced tramping some of the Great Walks of New Zealand. This provides an excellent context for comparison. First the shoes offer a very protective sole despite feeling lightweight. However, the rigid sole did not offer much cushioning. At the ankle, the single quick lace lacked some of the support I expect from a hiking boots. On the strongly positive side, the quick lace system makes it easy to tighten the laces quickly. On the first hike they seemed to stretch and I had to adjust them a few times, but I did not sense this on subsequent hikes. The protective sole and toe guard did a great job on rocky trails. The GoreTex membrane and seam construction kept my feet dry, even crossing shallow streams. Perhaps most important, the hiking boots allowed for excellent speed hiking as dusk settled in my region of the northern United States. Within my arsenal of boots and trail shoes, these boots will be worn when packing light and moving fast. They also offer a very aggressive tread.
I will start with what is good, the sole has excellent grip and the shoe feels like a glove protecting the heel and ankle in a slim way, unfortunately, the tongue is not very thick and the laces end up hurting the tendons, on the other hand, it protrudes so much in the upper part that it opens in excess and all it does is gradually collect particles from the ground that end up getting into the shoe, the last set of hooks lock the braids allowing the closure system to release little by little due to the lack of tension. I would not recommend this boot at all.

These are casual shoes and not hiking boots. They don't have much support and you can feel hot spots in the soles. They lacing system works well for shoes but they don't work well with so many eyelets in this model. You can't make the ankle section tight without making the lower area also overly tight. I also hiked about 150miles and the lugs are showing serious wear. I estimate these will be worn out in a little over 200miles of use.

I have just been using it over 2 weeks, apart from the things already pointed out i.e. not that strong ankle support and the upper part of shoe tongue dropping down if the pocket is used to tuck in the laces, rest of the shoes seems good. It is surely on the slimmer side of fit as with most of salomon shoes. Just took 2-3 days of 2-3 miles of walk per day for the shoes to break in and now it is quite comfortable. I will have to use it for couple of months to check if the upper is durable enough as has these issue with shoes that I got in past. I don't want to rate is low in durability as haven't used it to that extent where I can say, it is not
I wear a 7.5 (USA) so I bought a size 8; I thougt they were too tight at first, but they fit perfectly ~ I walk everywhere through mud, water, wet grass, and these shoes are perfect ~ I'm a fan of Salomon boots for 20+ years ~ When I say I walk, I mean I walk, and Salomon boots hold up for 3 or more years before I am forced to get anotherr pair ~ I plan on purchasing two more pairs of these boots because they are perfect for Spring/Summer/Fall ~ They are not a cold weather boot, so keep that in mind ~ The only caveate is it is hard to keep the ankle tight, but I'm learning how to adjust the quick lace strings and I lie it a lot ~
