[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this jacket recently and yes, this is my fifth Ares Jacket purchased! Perfect for everyday wear. Looks great when wearing to work and a great looking jacket when out socially. Nobody wants an overly heavy jacket with everyday use and this jacket allows you to sit comfortably in your vehicle with not getting too warm and manages the cold when outside heading into work, the store, or family/friends home. What always catches my eye are the retro designs and the associated color patterns. Basically this jacket keeps you warm, looks great, and is a great value. That is why I keep coming back to Marmot and keep wearing this jacket!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I own two of these jackets in different color combos. I'm 5 ft 10, 34" waist and about 180 lb and a large fits perfectly. Fairly lightweight and looks stylish enough to wear to the office in a business casual setting. I own much warmer down jackets and much more technical ones but the Ares is a great all around grab and go jacket for everyday wear. Warm enough for 80% of the cold weather we encounter in the Carolinas. I like the shiny look of the older version of this jacket better than the satin finish on the new one so I bought a 2nd on sale to add to my collection. I bought my first Ares about 7 years ago and it's holding up well.
I had a Patagonia down "sweater" jacket that wasn't warm enough. So I tried the Ares hoping it would provide the warmth I wanted. This jacket feels a million times better than the Patagonia. The shell is more substantial and the pockets are lined. Oh yeah, and it is definitely plenty warm! It isn't a bulky jacket either and the Angel Arm thing is a nice touch. Had it in a snow, with howling winds and sub freezing temps and with only a fleece pullover, and a long sleeve thermal shirt I was sweating and had to unzip. I'm 5'9" and 155#'s. Bottom line it's awesome. Does get wet if subjected to massive amounts of moisture but was still warm. Recommend.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This jacket is wel-constructed, looks super-cool, and has a great price. I have the red/blue one, and can’t wait to wear it - and I hate the winter!
This jacket was exactly what I was looking for. I live in North Alabama, where Winter weather may swing from the 30s in the morning to nearly 70 in the afternoon. This jacket kept me warm on the coldest and wettest days of this past winter. Since the jacket is packable and has a small footprint, it's super easy to carry along with me on days where it has gotten too warm to continue to wear - as well as being easy to carry along on a warm day, in anticipation of a cold evening. The jacket it stylish and I have gotten multiple compliments on it (even from my friends who poke fun at me for wearing 'puffy coats'). I'm 6'2 and ~220 lbs (long torso) - the XL fits me perfectly. So far I am loving it and would definitely buy again.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased my ares jacket just in time for the cold snap of winter. And I can attest to the warmth this lightweight guy brings to the party. It. Is. Warm. As far as fit goes I wish I’d gone and gotten my usual large size instead of being talked into a medium for the sake of layering. It was a good fit still I just prefer a looser feel. The jacket is super light weight I barely noticed I had it on. My biggest complaint would be the super thin material that seemed to snag on everything and leave scars all over. Utilities wise? It’s a very good jacket.
I primarily wear this while walking my dogs in DC. We cover about 6 miles a day and are outside about an hour at a time, morning and night. Moderate activity level. I’m 5’9” and 185lbs with an athletic build and the medium fits well. I’ve worn it from the low 30s with a few layers underneath to the low 60s with just a t-shirt. Gets super warm when it’s zipped up, but vents heat quickly. Good with wind. Less good with rain, but I don’t expect it to be. Really versatile and sharp design.
I purchased this for my husband and couldn't be happier! I love the style of the jacket, especially the various grey tones. He loves the warmth and said he was surprised it was so warm because it's not bulky at all. He typically wears a light layer or two under the jacket and it's been sufficient in our low 20 degrees weather. May need a warmer jacket for long periods of time in lower temps, but for everyday wear it's perfect!
Perfect addition to my outdoor gear. So light but exceptionally warm. I’ve worn it under a lightly insulated ski jacket to ski in windy single digit temps. On it’s own, it’s a perfect apres ski jacket for 25-45 degree afternoons. Last week, wore it over a base layer for spring conditions at Jackson Hole & was comfortable all day long (did not get too hot either). Looking forward to using it on cool hikes this spring.
I bought this for my husband for Christmas, since he had gifted his favorite pullover style jacket. I read great things about Marmot and decided to go for it. He loves the army green/powder blue colors, and lightweight feel. I bought the large and it is a slim fit, so maybe go up a size if you aren't sure:) We'll have to see if the ultra down feathers will provide the wind/cold protection he is expecting.
