I was very excited about this hybrid boot from Zamberlan and when I started wearing them they fulfilled all expectations. Rugged construction, incredible comfort and support, and very lightweight. No other brand is making a shoe like this, it is truly one of a kind. They do get a little hot when the temperatures get high (90's) but they breathe quite well as my feet have never gotten sweaty and in the mountains where it's cooler there is never a problem. They are a more technical shoe so the fit is a bit tighter and wearing thick hiking socks is a no go for me. I like to wear the thinnest hiking socks I can with these shoes. I would also recommend ordering a half size smaller as I usually wear an 8.5 which was a bit too big for me. The size 8 fit is snug yet very comfortable with room in the toe box.
I have enjoyed the rich, detailed craftsmanship of Zamberlan for several different boot types. These boots are light with an amazing grip and all day comfort. This is a three season boot that will not fail you no matter the terrain. The cushion ankle wrap is a nice bonus to keep out dirt and small debris so you don’t have to stop hiking. Highly recommend these boots. Well made. Well worth it.
Really disappointed in these hiking shoes, especially considering the extremely high price. Oddly they are very narrow and tight in the front of the foot area, but loose in the heel cup. For sure this would have caused blisters. Also, almost no cushioning. They feel like a hard vibram sole attached to a piece of leather. But worst of all, the narrow forefoot pinched downward on the top of my big toe, causing a lot of pain. Ouch! These are by far the worst hiking shoes I've used. Returned them.
I just received these boots and more than happy with the construction. Thay have a good stiff sole and the leather seams really durable. I wore the and the house for an evening and decided they just dont work for my foot. I decided to send them back because they run narrow. And the lacing system is a bit awkward. My heal tends to slip up and im afraid this would cases me blisters. I cant fault the boot because it doesn't fit me, thats why i still give it 5 stars.
Zamberlan Italian craftsmanship is excellent and the foot weld is ideal for me. I have a broad toe box with moderately high arches. The Salathe was just what I was looking for transitioning from the Winter to early Summer. The soles are firm enough to avoid the feeling of rocks under your feet but flexible enough not to feel like joggers. Goretex lining was important to me and this boot has it all. Yes the heel soft, but the cup is firm and will quickly mold your foot. 5th pair of Zamberlans
