First used these on a 20-mile 4,200 elevation gain backpacking trip with no prior breaking-in period. My feet held up great. Absolutely 0 pain in my feet the whole trip and they handled wet rock, roots, mud, and the rest of the mountain terrain very well. They never untied or loosened much. I was extremely satisfied with these boots. They were first pair of Danner boots and they will not be my last. It’s true they run a little large. I wear 10.5-11 normally so went with the 10.5. They would be too loose if I wasn’t wearing some thick hiking socks (I wear Darn Tough). But with these socks, the fit was just fine. South Rim 600s get a 10/10
Love these boots. Right for the box. So happy they come in wide.
I’ve been wearing the South Rim’s for my Mojave desert field work for the last few weeks. So far I’m impressed with their comfort and support on loose and rocky terrain. I’m always looking for footwear that is reasonably lightweight, breathable and durable. After about 150 rough miles on them, I’d say they’re checking off those boxes. Like the other 600 series shoes, I find these to run a tad big. I sized down 1/2 size and they fit great. I hope Danner can make these in some other colors. They’ve got a bit of a Grandpa look to them!
Materials and build quality are great. The sole is wide, stout and stable. The lacing system could be improved. The stays sewn into the tongue don't line up with the lacing pattern, so the tongue bunches up. I've bypassed the stays to avoid this. The top four lace hooks were unusable until I bent them downward. Even then, it's a fight to keep the laces in place while tying. I suspect the laces will wear out at the sharp edges of those hooks. I wish the hooks were like those used on my Danner Vicious.
This is my 2nd pair of this model. For the record, I own a bunch of Danners, and this is by far my favorite. The reason that I like it so much is that it is a hot model (designed for hot climates) and it feels like a sturdy hiking boot but without the weight. It looks a lot better live than in these pictures. My first pair I purchased at my normal size 11.5 and they were a little large. This time, I went down a half size 11 and now the shoes fit me perfectly. Buy these if you want a hiking shoe that is not flimsy like a sneaker but not heavy over built like a hiking boot. Its perfect for most hiking trails.
Perfect fit and very comfortable right from the first moment I put them on. The insoles really made them comfy, although, since I have high arches I chose to replace the insoles with ones designed for my arch. I feel the tongue could be wider, I always have to shuffle it side to side to get it centered, a quarter to half inch increase each side of upper portion of the tongue would be great. Tongue comment applies even with the original insole inserted. I had purchased these hikers for my Alaska trip, wore them all the time. I love them and would not hesitate to purchase again when the time comes.
Used these bad boys to climb “Table Rock Summit”. They held up way and look good. I agree with others saying that the sole is a little soft. So if you are doing a longer hike (+3 hours) you’re feet are going to get tired. I got the extra wide boots and ordered my correct size. Boots fit well. They are very comfy to walk in.
This is my third pair of these boots. Solid foot bed thanks to the Vibram midsole and sole. I love the breathability. My only gripe is with the laces that are provided. They are too slippery and usually during a walk I'll have to stop and retie the boots. They don't untie because they are double knotted but they slip off the top hooks and I'll feel the boot loosening and look down and I'll be trailing knotted laces alongside the boot. I have learned to really torque them down. The sole is amazing in that it very seldom picks up debris in the tread yet provides excellent traction.
Me gustan mucho. Los felicito. Comencé a conocer su historia.
These shoes are amazing. They are the most comfortable pair of shoes that I own. They are perfect for the trail and everyday wear. I'm a teacher and walking on concrete for 7 hours a day, and these shoes have been my go-to because of the all-day comfort they offer. They're also great for the trail, they have great traction and handle on the trail, they are not waterproof, but they're breathable and they're still thick enough that I've been through several creeks and my feet only got slightly wet. The shoes dry out quickly. These boots are one of my favorites and it's locked me into Danner as my go-to brand. I would recommend these to anyone that asked me, it's it's because of these boots that my wife bought her first pair of Danner's: the Mountain 600 low.
