Great quality and comfortable pad, but the description is misleading. The photo with the water bottle is way off. When the pad is in the bag it's about twice as tall as your standard Nalgene bottle, so don't think this is some compact backpacking pad. The inflation/deflation mechanism is a nice feature, but good luck getting it back in the bag. It takes some wrestling. If you want a comfortable pad but you're not concerned about space, by all means get this. It's perfect for car camping. Backpacking, not the one. I'll probably have to return this.
Here's a tip for inflating it the first time: I opened the valve and laid it flat for 12 hours, closed the valve and squished the air around to open up the flatter spots, then re-opened and left for 12 more hours... I did this inside in the AC, after the first day, I closed the valve and set it in the sun for 10 min. That expanded the air inside, and warmed up the foam so it relaxed a little, and now it self inflates like a champ! Not sure I'd recommend it to side sleepers that weigh more than my ~190Lbs, my hip is JUST short of grounding out on my side.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this mat to replace another brand of older mat, which had done it's time I had gotten the Sea to Summit Basecamp sleeping bag a couple of years ago so I decided to go with this mat All I can say is WOW AWESOME No doubt the best mat I have ever used in 50 years of camping. My camping now consists of car camping so the size and weight do not matter, fits wonderful under my basecamp like sleeping in a cloud, so comfortable together unsurpassed quality slept solid all night woke up no aches or stiffness hate to get out of the bag now I know it seems huge but worth every bit of it's size and weight I have both the Basecamp and the Comfort mat in large since I am taller and they fit me great no rollign off, no feet hanging off the end
My son bought me the "Camp plus SI" for my birthday last year because someone decided they need my old pad and stole it, ya. Anyway, this pad is almost as comfortable as a select comfort mattress the only down fall is the bulk, its not bad but it does make it a challenge for winter camping when you need extra gear. I can deal with it for because its so comfortable and granted it probably wasn't designed for "backpacking" more for camping, I'll make it work. The bulk is the only reason I give it a 4 and not a 5.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It expands when you open the air dump port instead of the one-way inflate port. However, you still need to blow in air or use an airbag to inflate. The problem is that it's difficult to deflate and roll into the bag. As I said earlier, you need to open the air dump port to inflate. The mat is rolled while bleeding air, but extra force is applied as the air returns to the mat. Also, every time you remove the pillow from the mat, the tape will come off, so you need to reattach it one by one.
Pros: The sleeping pad is comfortable for me (Side Sleeper) Warm enough for late fall/early spring camping here in Central Canada. Material seems and feels very Durable. Cons: Bulky; I have the Large Regular and it takes up a lot of space compared to some of the other pads I have. Missing stuff sack; Although the specs page say it comes with a stuff sack; neither of mine came with one. I'm not sure if this is a quality control issue or what, but It makes packing and storing them awkward.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's a bit heavier and more clunky than I thought, but it works well. My son has a bed pad that fits into a smaller sack, is lighter, and fills out as much, but I believe his cost more. Overall, I'm satisfied were it not for the perforations in the sack that occurred when clumsy ferryboat crewmembers did not take care to store it in the hold of the ship properly. I've had to patch up two holes through no fault of Sea to Summit.
I camp in some rough spots here in SW Montana. I pair any inflatable or self-inflating pad with a foam pad to protect from punctures. Ths Camp Plus SI Large is my favorite sleeping pad and an integral part of what I use when I head out to the woods. Just finished a 7-day elk hunt sleeping on this pad every night and I have zero complaints! I'm 6'1", 245 lbs, and typically sleep on my side.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's a great camping sleeping pad. It's pretty hard to fit in my hunting bag, but fit perfect on top. I used it in the Idaho mointains. The pad is super comfortable and kept me warm on cold nights. I do wish the storage bag cinched better. The elastic straps just don't compress the pad as tight as it could go.
Very pleased with this purchase. I'm 200lbs and sleep mostly on my hips. This mat supports very well and my hips never touch the ground. I use this mostly backpacking. The quality is great to this is a very nice mat for the price. There is other mats at this price point that are not as quality as this mat
