Where have these perfect boots been all my life??
I have been searching for the perfect go everywhere, do everything boot since I moved back to Seattle 7 years ago. Has to be waterproof, have an excellent sole and structure so I can walk forever, and look good with just about anything. I have a high arch and am prone to plantar fasciitis (w/custom orthotics), plus a bunion on my right foot that really needs some space—but narrow heels…so I’m not an easy fit. But I looove to walk, and I’m intolerant of shoes that get in the way. And also ugly shoes. I ordered and sent back sooo many boots from REI…I was sure these weren’t going to work, after reading the reviews. But I’d bought a pair of men’s Danner hiking boots and they’re heavenly…so I gave the size 10 a shot (w/my orthotics, I’m usually between a 10 & 10.5, depending on the shoe). They are a perfect fit for me. Which means they probably do run a little big. But they have a just-roomy-enough toe box, and still hold my heel and instep comfortably…no slippage. And they have a simple, classic look, great build. I can wear them with anything you’d ever wear in Seattle. ;-)
More of a rugged fashion boot than for work
I work as a barista and line cook so I was looking for a stylish, nonslip work boot. These are not it. The leather scuffs too easily and will need a lot of maintenance. These boots also cannot handle even a small amount of water/oil on the floor. I don’t feel confident walking in these at work like I do in my slip resistant Birkenstocks. Regarding sizing: I exchanged these twice because I followed advice from other reviews and ordered a size down. I ended up going with a size 9, which is on the bigger end of what I wear. They are actually a bit roomy in the toe but the 8.5 were painfully narrow for my feet.
Beautiful comfy boots, but size down!
Love these so far! They’re comfy right out of the box! All the reviews I’ve dug up say they run large, which I’d agree with… by 1/2 to 1 size. I usually wear a 7 1/2 but it depends on the brand (UK 5 in Docs, 5 in unisex Chucks, 6/7.5 in Vans, EU 37 in Birks). I ordered these for pickup at REI in a 7 and the fit is pretty perfect, although still a bit long! The fit in the heel, instep, and ankle is secure so I’ll keep this size for the wiggle room in the toes. The other pair of Chelsea boots I own, from the leading Australian-based competitor, have been pretty great for working as a chef, hiking, and camping. But I’m not thrilled with the way they’re wearing (a bit snug, not Australian-made, and 3/4 of the elastic gores began fraying after just a few months) so I decided to go with Danner when I decided I wanted a brown pair. The Danners are American made, yet also less pricey. The size is marked the same on both (UK 4.5/ EU 37.5) but the Danners are much roomier in the toes. I did swap the stock insole for a stiffer, wool-lined pair I had lying around, which further improved the fit and will still allow room for hiking/winter socks. Excited to wear these on another adventure or two before summer ends, and hopefully for years to come!
I was wrong to size down
I sized down in these boots because practically everyone that reviewed said it ran large. Well not for me! I went down to a 8.5. Normally a 9. Wish I would have stayed with my true size as I could hardly get my foot in. They did seem to be on the narrow side but I can’t actually rate on the boots performance because I had to return. Too bad because they were a nice looking pair of boots. But I would stick with your normal size. Seems very well made.
Great boot, but does run large
Super cute and extremely comfortable boot, but it does run large. I'm typically a 6.5/7 and I sized down to a 6 after reading other reviews about the shoe running large. I'd compare it to the sizing of the LLBean Duck Boot which I also sized down to a 6.
These are the best boots and are made in the USA!
So glad I got these over the Blundstones. They were comfortable right out of the box and I added some orthotic insoles and I never want to take them off. Wearing them with a denim skirt today, a dress tomorrow, and jeans on the weekend. Perfection.
Size down and you will love them
I'm a wide 9 and always buy 9½. These I ordered 9 and my toes still have room. I was tempted to try 8½ but already wearing these and love them. The ankle is fitted but not hard to get on. Wide and super comfy inside. They feel like a snug running shoe besides the toe area. Lots cushion the color brown is pretty and I've worn for 12 hours straight and my feet were happy. I had sorels that I didn't love to wear for long periods. These are replacing them.
Cute Boot. Size Down
This are really comfortable boots. The secret is the insole, it's delightfully squishy. Consistent with other reviews, these boots run large. I'm consistently a US women's 7; EU 38/38.5 across other brands and went down a full size to a women's 6. I'll add that if you plan to wear thick socks or put in a different insole, a half-size down may work better. I tried these on with a thick pair of SmartWool socks at REI and the 6.5 fit better in that instance. My heel still lifts up slightly but I have pretty narrow feet; the length is still fine. I got these as my go-to fall/winter shoes for throwing on to walk the dog, run errands, or grab a drink at the brewery after work. It's yet to be seen if the soles will provide enough traction in snow; I'm a little skeptical. All said, they're a cute, outdoorsy boot that I think look a little less clunky and are slightly less $ (at the time of this writing) than Bloodstones. Give them a try!
Pull the trigger!
These boots are like heaven!!!Super comfortable, thick but soft durable leather,You wont be disappointed...Im an 8.5,I ordered an 8 based on reviews to size down by a 1/2,Perfect amount of room in the toebox for toes to spread and to wear a thick sock if needed...Im Lovin' em'!!!
Most comfortable boots & waterproof!
Love these boots. Purchased them after seeing them on my sister who lives in San Francisco. Stayed there and other rainy areas of Northern California during period of atmospheric rivers. My feet were warm and dry the entire rainy trip and they don’t look like they were used during rainy weather. I love them so much I kept wearing them when I returned to Dallas and traveled elsewhere. They’re stylish & comfortable. They do run large so I had to return for half size down after opening and trying first pair. Then they stretched out a little, but I was able to put an older arch support insole in them and wear slightly thicker sock and they feel great. I think part of the large sizing is the toe box is a nice width, so very comfortable if you are wider at ball of foot that might make you order larger size - but the space for toes and ball of foot make it very cinforta For walking/being on your feet for long periods. They’re a favorite pair of shoes/boots now. When I called customer service about weather-proofing they recommended the product care package but assured me they’d be fine with very rainy weather and happily they were! I have since ordered the care kit since I want to make sure these last a long time!
