This pack checks all my boxes! It's comfortable, but not overly padded/too heavy. I doesn't give me shoulder bruises like my other pack did, but does a great job of putting the weight on my hips. *I'm 5'9" with a pretty long torso, and the M fits me perfectly. I'm not exactly a minimalist, but I can fit plenty of gear for a multi-day trip in this pack! I really like the external access to the separated sleeping bag pouch. I love the front pocket and access. I like that the lid is removable, but I also love that the bladder pouch doubles as an ultralight daypack for days when you're not moving camp. My only complaint is that the hip pockets don't fit my phone or inReach.
I have not yet used my new Gregory Deva but bought it to replace my old Gregory Deva which was 12 years old and had at least 1500 miles on it. This summer I did the JMT yoyo with my trusty Diva and it was amazing. I was ready for a slightly lighter pack that was a bit more waterproof but sad to say goodbye to my trusted friend. Luckly I was able to give it to someone who will use it. Looking forward to at least another 1500 miles on this new one. It is beautiful and simular enough to my old one with much more upgraded features.
Finding a good pack that won't hurt my shoulder after a few hours is very difficult. I did a 4 day trip through the grand canyon with no complaints! I've had two shoulder surgeries so comfort and a good hip belt with lost back support is important. Also the removable day pack came in handy. My friend started to over heat so we put our bags to the side and got into the river, was able to bring my hydration pack along. Don't worry, a guide recommended the river and was legal today do.
The Deva 60 is just the right size for a weekend backpacking trip. I use this for short jaunts into the backcountry of Alaska and it never fails to haul what I need, and comfortably, too. This pack feels good no matter if I'm going up steep inclines or going down them. It stays put, stays balanced, and for much of the time I even forget it's on my back. Gregory knows how to fit a woman with a pack - this one (my third Gregory) is no different. The straps fit my shoulders, the hip belt rides comfortably on my hips, the bag is light, sturdy, and customizable to fit like a glove. The features are everything I need - pockets where I want them, straps for tightening the load, easy access.
I have a disclaimer. I am not an ultralight backpacker. I like my bells and whistles. Which is why I am in love with the Deva 60L pack. I've put 6,000+ miles on 2 different versions (2011 and 2014) of the Deva packs during various multi-day trips, as well as 2 thru hikes. Comfort and pockets have always been the winning features for me. On the 2014 updated version, I fell in love with the waterproof hip belt pocket, as my thru hike in New Zealand was VERY RAINY. I love that the rain cover comes included for the updated pack. I also love the sidekick bag. For a thru hiker who sometimes has town errands, it is a nice bonus to have a smaller pack to take around. In terms of comfort, I've always felt like Gregory packs do not skimp on cushioning and fit, maybe to a fault since the Deva is heavier than competitor packs. I try out other packs to broaden my horizons, but I'll be surprised if my Deva doesn't go with me on my next thru hike.
I purchased this after finding a Gregory mountain bike pack that I fell in love with. Although not a "hard core" backpacker, this pack has been by far the most comfortable one I've ever used for my 4/5 annual trips (2-3 nights). I have shoulder issues, a tight back, and an angry SCM muscle, but this pack adjusts at the micro level in so many places that I can still smile at the end of the trek! I've yet to have anything rip or break, and this pack has several well thought out access points and features to keep gear well organized, plus a rain cover is included and it has a day pack that I usually use for adventures from base camp and then stuff clothes in it for my pillow at night. I love everything about this pack! The only suggestion is to make a larger waterproof belt pouch because phones have gotten bigger and it would be nice if it fit my iphone X. (Then again, maybe that has changed since purchasing mine a few years ago!) ;) Thanks, Gregory!
I bought this backpack for my Washington backpacking trip, i was hesitant at first because it is pricey but after using it, I don't regret a penny! So so worth it!
I have used this pack a handful of times, and I am always impressed with how much it can hold, and how comfortable it is to carry even when bursting at the seams. Easy access to your stuff is key in a pack this size, and Gregory made sure that the main compartment was easy to access from multiple points. The shoulder straps are comfortable on long days and the hip strap is very supportive and doesn't dig in. Outside storage pockets are easily accessible for things like maps, snacks and your phone/camera.
This pack fit me like a dream after getting fitted and finding out I needed a much smaller size than I thought. It has tons of great features like a lightweight detachable daypack and a raincover included. It is sturdy and comfy, and provides a decent amount of room. I do have trouble fitting my larger sleeping bag (Nemo Forte 20 Long) in this pack though, that's my only complaint! Great bag for beginner backpacking :)
Beautiful color. Great compartments and comfortable hip/back padding. My only complaint thus far is that if you lean your head back at all, it hits the top of the metal frame. It's not as bad with weight in the pack but still an issue. I was going to go with a lighter model from Gregory that didn't have this issue but the padding is better on this pack, in case I need to carry more weight at time. #sweepstakes
