This backpack was intended for a commute, lightweight, offers support + ventilation. My purpose was for 3 days travel. It held all l needed, I used the laptop sleeve for the compression pack with top, shorts, the section in front of that and still in the laptop opening for the 2nd travel cube. It held the lightweight jacket. In the large compartment, three zipper containers, blow dryer. Zipper pocket at top of the large compartment held my tablet. Top wedge pocket for wallet, passport. Front pocket has openings for pens, notepads, andxelastic straps for calculator. Side mesh/stretch pocket held a 32 ounce HydroFlask without trouble. This is also reinforced with the lower compression strap, too.
I bought this for trips of a few days in length (less than a week) and found that if you are having to carry anything heavy (books, laptop, liquids, paperwork, anything dense), the straps (shoulder, chest and hip) cannot bear the weight. The entire pack sticks out (kind of like a big square box) so far from your body that, when heavy, practically makes you fall over. The weight is not distributed enough across the body, especially for the flimsy hip belt (basically just an extra 1" strap with a buckle; no real support). Great for storing things, but not if you actually plan to wear it as a backpack and walk around with it.
Perfect size for travel and airplane carry on too. I was looking for a lightweight backpack that has a decent amount of volume, cushion/carrying comfort, organization pockets and laptop storage. I own two other Osprey backpacks - Kyte 46L for backpacking and Daylite for everyday use. I was considering the Osprey Aphelia but the Nova seemed to have a lot more features without a steep price increase. I cannot wait to travel with the Nova! Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. I will continue to buy Osprey packs for life!
I use this backpack frequently when I travel remotely for work. It easily fits my 15.6" laptop, my ipad, a change of clothes, notebook, chargers, and snacks. The pack is comfortable to wear when fully loaded. I purchased three packs and packed them all and wore them around the house. I ended up choosing this pack over the others because the main compartment opened wide which allowed for easier access to items at the bottom. The exterior stretch pocket I found great for keeping my earphones easily accessible on flights. My only complaints are I wish there was a little more organization for pens/passport/business cards etc. and I REALLY wish the water bottle pockets were deeper, although I suspect this was sacrificed for the wider zip opening of the main compartment. My large hydroflask doesn't secure well and slips out, which is a real bummer because I always carry one with me.
I couldn't wait to get this backpack. All black, no funny colors (I'm particular). When I opened it and started moving stuff from my other backpack (also a Nova but the previous incarnation) I was so excited to see the well-placed compression straps and admired the slim profile that still held the same amount of stuff. I even came to terms with the loss of the zippered bottom portion of the access panel. The one thing that is making me crazy, however, is that there is only one zipper for that access panel section. Instead of being able to go in from the top with a minimum of fuss, I need to unfasten one compression strap, pull the zipper up and almost all the way around instead of opening just the tippy top to reach in) and then re-zipper and re-fasten. I know this sounds petty but it makes a huge difference in my ability to easily reach things from that area. I use the bag for my daily commute, usually via bus and subway. I looked down yesterday and saw that I hadn't closed the section. Had I been able to access it at the top with the use of the two zippers that would not have been an issue. I feel like Osprey cheaped out on this and it is the wrong place to have done so. Other than that, I love it. The women-specific fit was a game-changer for me, comfort-wise, and this is true to that: the chest strap sits high enough to not interfere with my bosom, the curved straps are comfortable, the bag sits in just the right spot on my back. If only I had my two zippers!
I purchased my daypack to take on my trip to the Scandanavian countries. I purchased this pack because it had a pocket on each side to put my water bottle. Well, it didn't hold the metal bottle in snuggly and it slipped out even though I securely tightened the straps. It was my favorite bottle. Other than that the bag performed very well. It protected my ipad.
I have been an Osprey fan since I bought a daypack to take to college with me 8 years ago. I still have that pack, but it is certainly starting to look like an 8 year old, well loved backpack so I decided it was time for an upgrade. I knew I wanted another Osprey pack, and when I found the Nova on the outlet site in last season's color for 50% off I knew I had to grab it. This bag is so good I would have happily paid full price for it. I recently used it as my only luggage on a 4 day, 3 night trip. I was able to fit 1. Clothes for 4 days plus pajamas 2. Three books 3. Laptop 4. Kindle 5. An extra pair of shoes 6. Toiletries bag 7. Separate makeup bag 8. All the various chargers for all my various electronics 9. Wallet 10. Water bottle all surprisingly easily, with room to spare (though admittedly not much) and it still fit underneath the seat in front of me on the airplane. The pockets in this bag make it an absolute dream for anyone who, like me, wants to carry their entire life with them at all times. Having so many nooks and crannies to tuck things away in makes it easy to fit everything you need, and the fact that this isn't just one bag with one big pocket makes it easy to find things without having to unpack the whole bag. The separate, padded laptop pocket in the very back of the bag was especially nice. Having it separated from the rest of my stuff meant that it was really easy to get out and then put back after going through security, no more trying to rearrange all your other stuff so there's enough space to shove the laptop back in after taking it out. The padding in the laptop compartment also feels really nice and sturdy, I felt plenty comfortable with only that as protection for my laptop throughout my travels. Far and away, though, above all the other things I love about this backpack, the thing that makes it truly worth every penny, full price or on sale, and the thing that makes Osprey stand out from the pack, is how COMFORTABLE this backpack is. I landed at my destination at 8 am, and didn't check in to my hotel until 8 pm. I carried my backpack, fully packed, all over the city, totaling more than 8 miles of walking. With the hip straps and chest strap I was able to adjust the back so the weight was almost completely off my shoulders and comfortable to carry, and the breathable back panel kept me from becoming a hot, sweaty mess. I've found that most dedicated day packs/everyday bags don't have the same level of comfort as stability for long term wear as technical packs, which is frustrating as someone who often uses backpacks as luggage as well as for commutes. Osprey gives the same level of attention to comfort and stability to their day packs as they do their bigger technical packs, which sets them apart from other similar manufacturers. The quality also just cannot be beat. If you're looking for a backpack that will work equally well for commuters, students, hikers, and travelers, this bag will not disappoint.
I got this backpack for school because I needed something that had a bit extra space and good support. I choose Osprey Women's Nova Daypack because I wanted it to fit with a bit more contour to my body. I liked that the laptop area is padded and doesn't go all the way to to bottom. The storage is great. However, there are two very minor things I don't like: -When you stick a laptop in the laptop area it puffs out the laptop area. It's not a bad thing because I know my laptop is safe. But, the backpack puffs out the laptop area so much that you can't really use the compartment the laptop area goes into. You could probably fit a couple magazines in there. -The front pocket only has one zipper. The rest of the compartments (minus the sunglass area) have two zippers making it really easy and convenient to keep all the zippers at the top. I can't do that with the front pocket. It's not a huge deal.
I got this for work to throw my lunch, stethoscope, pens, and papers. It fits my hydroflask easily and has plenty of room for lunch, jacket, laptop, and whatever else I end up bringing to work. I really like the front open pocket, it’s just convenient to throw something in it and not have to deal with zippers. I haven’t used it for anything outdoorsy or to carry anything too heavy, so I can’t speak towards that. It’s from Osprey though so the brand speaks for itself! Definitely would recommend for commuter/work/school purposes.
i've had this bag for about a year and use it daily to bike to/from work (4-5 miles) and it carries about 15-20 lbs well for me. I also love that it has a bladder compartment and can easily convert from my work bag to a day hiking bag. I've also taken it as a "personal item" on an international flight and carried about 30lbs-35lbs confortably. the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because the front pocket definitely needs 2 zippers and would not recommend for carrying anything more than 30-35lbs for large amounts of time because the hip belt is minimal in design, helps but is not intended for very heavy packs. Having 2 zippers might not seem like a big deal but it is, and this bag would have been perfect if this tiny detail was added. Overall for value and cost, this is a great bag.
