I used these for a backpacking trip this month (July 2022) and had high hopes. They mostly did the job, but failed in a couple of key areas. The good: 1) they did not give me heel blisters; 2) they did not give me blisters between my toes; 3) the sole was grippy on rocks and trails. The bad: 1) my feet often slid from side-to-side inside of the shoe making it feel very unstable at times; 2) the sidewalls on both shoes are blowing out (see pics). I have used these on a few day hikes with no issues. This was my first backpacking trip with them. My pack weight was about 38 lbs. So maybe they just are not designed to handle pack-weight and the rigors of backpacking? Maybe, but the sidewalls blowing out seems like overall poor construction to me. So back to researching I go because these obviously will not work for backpacking anymore. Bummer.
We love Keen footwear, BUT this pair doesn't measure up. After only a few hours of walking the outer coating is peeling off. Looking unsightly and presumably removing the waterproofing. We will be reluctantly returning this pair.
Love these so far. I’ve worn these for work delivering UPS for about two weeks now. They are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn... so I ordered another pair that just arrived. This pair, I dislike the color and the whole shoe is assembled kind of sloppy. Will return this pair.
I wore these shoes on several day hikes. These shoes initially felt loose in the heel while the toe box was very comfortable. By my third hike and with some adjustments to the lacing, I was happy with the heel fit. As for stability, I hiked in slightly muddy terrain and these shoes felt super solid. I was also impressed that the trends did not retain mud. My feet were pretty happy at the end of each hike as these shoes offered good support while being fairly lightweight. I'd love to see this shoe in other colors (perhaps grey). I'd also consider wearing these on a light backpacking trip. Overall, this is a great hiking shoe.
I converted to Keens years ago, when I developed bunions that made most other shoes with smaller toe boxes uncomfortable to wear for any length of time or duration of walk even while wearing silicone bunion cushions. These are my latest shoes, and after a month of wear, are proving to continue the Keen reputation for comfort, fit, and durability. I walk at least five miles every single day, and spend punishing amounts of time on airport tarmac at least twice a month; these shoes handle it with style. They're true to size, and don't let my skinny heels slip out no matter how swiftly I'm moving. I can stand for hours without any back or foot discomfort.
I was looking for a new boot to accommodate my bunion (ouch). The large toe box works perfect. I wear a SZ 7.5 in shoes and bought an 8 but too big so returned for 7.5. Fits perfect and plenty of room but no slipping. I always like wearing two pair of balega socks as well. Just hiked the Grand Canyon and they worked great. Love my keens
I have terrible feet but I’m always on he go and these are the only shoes my feet love. These have been my go to shoes for years. I mean years. I walk the soles off them every single time. This is my second pair recently that the leather has cracked but this time it was within 3 weeks of buying them. Ok fine I thought I’d live with it but tonight I noticed, like others, the leather has separated from the sole. Now I have a new shoe that is a deal breaker. I hope REI knows I’m returning these shoes and will try on every pair of hikers in the store in a 10 in hopes I find my new go to cause I guess Keen is done making quality.
Quality continues to decline over the past few years. The last 2 pair have not lasted through a Camino route. The heels shred, toe box pulls away from the sole. I am extremely disappointed in the newer versions. I've had Keen hiking shoes for 12 years. I'll be looking for a different brand.
This low top hiker fits true to size and has the same great fit as my other Keene waterproof boots. Although it’s nice to have a pair of waterproof boots for year round hikes, the Vent low hikers are more practical for my weekly hikes around the California Central coast , where rain is rarely a factor. These hikers held up well in sandy and rocky conditions. As with other Keene shoes, the tread is durable and will last for years despite regular wear and tear. I wore these shoes on day hikes but plan to wear them on future backpacking trips, too.
I have nothing but praise for these boots. Let me start by saying that my feet are on the wider and, I suppose, relatively flat side. It is terribly difficult for me to find shoes that don't leave my feet sore, blistered, cut, toes crushed, or toenails bruised after a long trek. However, I hiked Half Dome in these and my feet were perfectly happy after a 12-hour day and 18+ miles. No red bunions! For me personally, there was no break-in period required. They were comfortable off the bat and I am looking forward to tackling all my future hikes in these. Thank you, Keen!
