I was very pleased with these shoes right out of the gate. I wore them in comparison to several others including the North Face Hedgehog which was the shoe I was leaning towards at the time. Ultimately this shoe fit me better and felt a little sturdier in my test walks.
The shoe hugs my foot well without causing discomfort which has been a major issue for me with hiking shoes in the past. I am able to lace it tight enough to keep my heel snug with no sliding and not feel overly tightened or constrained.
I wore these on about 9 miles of hiking in Bryce Canyon a week after purchasing them and they were comfortable from the get go. I had no hot spots, no stiffness but still felt snug and supported in the shoe.
The Vibram sole was VERY sturdy and I never felt any of the rocks or issues even when I was a little off the beaten path in the Escalante area. I still had considerable movement and support while feeling comfy inside the shoe.
My feet did get a little warm but I was hiking in a little heavier merino wool sock in 80 degree heats so I chalk it up to poor choices on my part. For the most part I was really comfortable the whole time I was hiking.
Service and delivery comments:
I have fallen in love with the staff at REI... no one in particular so no need to feel creeped out y'all... but I went in having done lots of research and reading convinced I wanted the North Face Hedgehog III shoes. I spent 20 minutes going over things with one of the staff and then walking in both for some distance around the store and found that the guy I was talking to was right and the Moab was a MUCH better fit for me.
REI, your staff are the BEST in this industry and make it the #1 reason I buy my gear at REI.

These shoes are not waterproof. I had a pair last year that had Goretex. They were waterproof.
I am going to take these cheap imitations back and get the ones from the Merrell website. They cost more, but at least they will keep my feet dry.
I am kind of surprised that REI would carry this shoe, knowing that it is not what it is purported to be. I think they should remove them from the store or relabel the shoe.

REI stopped carrying the real waterproof version of this shoe, Moab GTX and went for the fake dry Merrell pretend waterproofing membrame. 1 star for the fact they are pretending to be waterproof but otherwise they are the same great shoe the GTX is but 15 bucks cheaper. Don't buy these if you even remotely want your feet to be dry while rain hiking! :)

I had a pair of these shoes before and was impressed by the fit, durability, traction on trails. Going up a rock strewn trail or down, these shoes keep their grip. I wear them all day and have no problems. I got the new pair because I was so bummed out when I left my old ones on top of our car and drove away. Well, they fell off and now someone else is wearing them. I ordered the new pair as soon as I could. I've worn them in hot weather and pretty cold too, no worries! I recommend these shoes wholeheartedly

I selected these shoes because they were the most comfortable pair in the store. In fact, these are among the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. I've used them hiking a lot, and I find they are more efficient in that capacity then even boots. They are light and relatively breathable (for having GTX membrane), and have great traction. I would love to give these shoes 5 stars because they are just so darn comfortable, but I cant because they are falling apart. I've had them for roughly a year, and holes have developed all around them where the sole is peeling off from the shoe. FYI, I hike once or twice a week, and backpack usually once or twice a month... Even so, they should have lasted me longer than a year.

I bought these thnking they would be great for the Minnesota Winter. I was dead wrong. These shoes are fine at keeping water and snow out, but they just make your feet so hot they sweat like crazy. Then the sweat has no where to go, so it makes your feet wet with sweat. Then they stink. They stink really bad. And they dont dry. So the next day you have wet sweat soak shoes that smell terrible. And yea they dont dry, EVER! I found my feet getting wet from yesterdays sweat. Just awesome. If you want smelly wet athleats infect feet buy these shoes. Made it 3 monhs with them and had to toss them in garbage becasue they were so bad.

I use this shoe for 3 season hiking/backpacking in White Mtns of NH principally but I also trek all over the world and wear this shoe. I find it comfortable for my fairly wide foot with great traction and I can use it for moderately heavy backpacking. My feet are comfortable with this shoe over rugged terrain with uneven footing but my feet and ankles are strong and stepping on sharp rocks doesn't bother them at all. I understand many people like more "support" and these shoes are very flexible but I like that. I have found that for me the sizing is too small, that is with 10.5 US feet I need at least a size 12. I like lots of room and loose shoes don't bother me. They are water resistant at least when new and not really noticeably hotter than the non-Goretex model. They are my first choice for light to moderate hiking and backpacking.

I wore these shoes daily while sailing the Amazon in Peru. Conditions were wet and muddy when ashore. These shoes were dry and very comfortable and stable at all times. Easy to clean as well.
