Riot Polarity 16.5 Tandem Kayak - Special Buyis rated4.0out of5by2.
Rated4out of5byfromGreat BoatAmazing value. Great combination of stability, maneuverability and speed. Handles choppy seas and wind easily. Cockpits are close so paddling sync helps and at 6'2 I have plenty of room in back but front is cramped. No problems paddling solo but a bit much for one person to handle on land.

Rated4out of5byfromRiot Polarity KayakLooking for a solid plastic tandem kayak I could use to introduce my son to the hobby. Looked around a couple months. Was introduced to the Riot at REI.I had not heard of them before and certainly never saw a hull design like the Riot Polarity had but it did not take long to see this was a fairly solid built plastic boat for the money. The deck hardware caught my eye first and looked really sturdy, good solid seats and adjustability. The storage is what you would expect for a boat under 17' and comes with plastic covers and neopreme hoods underneath. The hull has a tunnel design running down the center of the hull making it the most stable kayak I have been in. It would take a lot of effort to flip this kayak. Helps it track well also but is hard to turn without using the rudder because of the hull design. The rear foot pegs that control the rudder are solid and easy to adjust while seated in the kayak by two pull straps to adjust the pegs forward or back. The kayak cockpits are a good distance from the front cockpit to the rear cockpit. I'm 6'1" and my son 5"11". We use 230cm paddels and have not hit each other yet when out of paddeling sync. Has very solid mounted beefy carry handles front and rear. You will need them as this kayak is on the heavy side for it's lenght at about 75 lbs but its all in the plastic. One can sit on the deck and not get much flex. I looked at several that were so thin you could push the deck or hull in areas with one hand. Not for me. I was looking for something rugged that could take a beating, dropped, run up on rocks ect.. This kayak looked like it would. We decided to buy it and as this was happening my son saw it online with his smartphone in the special buy section of the REI site. He mentioned it and the REI Rep looked it up on line and there it was for a couple hundred less. He gave it to use with no hassel and we have been enjoying it ever since. Great for lakes and rivers. We have had it out in the sound with 2'chops and no issue. Hammers right through. At 16' 5" not to much room for multi day trips. It works for an over night packing tent, sleeping bags, minimal food ect...Have to shove items anywhere and everywhere to pull it off. We do and we have fun with it!
