Comments about Ahnu Montara II Waterproof Hiking Shoes - Women's:
I've had these shoes for about 9 months now. Actually, I now own two pairs. They are by far and away the most comfortable and practical waterproof shoe I've worn for fitness walking. I walk every day, rain or shine for about 45 minutes. I have had back surgery and find most shoes don't give me the support I require. These have done so from the first day I wore them. My Merrells and Nikes are gathering dust!

Comments about Ahnu Montara II Waterproof Hiking Shoes - Women's:
These shoes caught my eye in the store because of their look and they are definitely waterproof. The shoes do run small, so I got a half size up. They felt fine in the store. I wore them to school due to a later ecology lab through the woods and quickly realized they are poorly designed! They are fairly rigid and though my left shoe fits perfectly, my right shoe is just uncomfortable and it rubs the back of my heel causing pain. I am constantly having to untie and retie the laces because they become too loose very quickly. They are comfy padding wise and I love the material; really the biggest issues are with the design and production of the shoes. Great traction, look, feel and sturdy soles. They are just not wearable!!!

Comments about Ahnu Montara II Waterproof Hiking Shoes - Women's:
I've had the shoes for approximately 3 months and use them on varied terrain for intense hiking workouts 6 days p/wk. The left shoe fits perfect and is quite comfortable. However, the right shoe, while it fits well, produces considerable pain from chaffing on my upper heel at the shoe's Achilles notch. After 3 months of wear the Achilles notch is still not broken in and I need to wear MoleFoam padding on my right heel every time I wear the shoes. Other than that, the shoes are light weight, comfortable, waterproof, rugged, and have good traction. I have narrow feet and they fit well. May not be well suited for wide feet, unless wide is offered.

Comments about Ahnu Montara II Waterproof Hiking Shoes - Women's:
I bought these hiking shoes for a month-long vacation in South America that involved both urban and wilderness adventures. I hike at home in boots, but they would have been excessive for the trip I was doing. I was looking for a versatile shoe that would be suitable for nearly everything I wanted to do but that wouldn't add too much weight to my luggage. (I lived out of a backpack, and the only other footwear I took on the trip was a pair of Chaco sandals.)
Pros: The shoes aren't heavy and didn't need breaking in. They're also attractive and can go with many types of casual clothes (I got them in brown). They were sturdy enough for a three-day trek in the Andes Mountains and some day hikes, but they weren't too bulky for wandering through cities.
Cons: The biggest drawback (and it was a significant one) is that I couldn't get these shoes to stay tight on my feet. I would pull the laces tight and double-knot them, but they invariably came loose, and I regularly had to untie them and tighten them again many times throughout the day. I've never experienced this issue with any other outdoorsy footwear I've owned. I don't know if the problem is as simple as replacing the laces (I haven't tried that yet) or if it's reflective of a design flaw in the shoe itself.
In addition, though I haven't gotten the blisters other reviewers have described, I have developed calluses in the same area (between my heel and ankle, where the top back of the shoe is). It sounds like this is an issue with how the shoe is constructed, so look out for it if you're thinking of buying these shoes.
All in all, my rating of two stars is based mostly on the annoyance of constantly having to tighten the laces (not fun with a heavy backpack on) and secondarily on the rubbing that causes calluses.

Bought this shoe for a hiking in Alaska. I got it three weeks before the trip to break it in, they were immediately comfortable. I usually wear an 8 but sized up to 8 1/2 for thicker socks. I was worried I didn't go up enough but they ended up fitting well. They were a bit hot to wear in the 100 degree weather of AZ but in Alaska they kept my feet warm & dry hiking in snow, they were great in a down pour and they were comfortable to wear on the dry days.

Comments about Ahnu Montara II Waterproof Hiking Shoes - Women's:
I bought these shoes for light hiking on Sierra mountain trails - was looking for a comfortable, durable waterproof shoe with great traction. After wearing for first time outside (not even hiking yet), got blisters on both heels where top back of shoe meets achilles tendon. Wrote this off to being a new shoe, needing to break in, etc. I put bandaids on both heels and also added heel inserts to elevate my foot and continued to wear them intermittently (should have returned them immediately at this point!!) thinking the feel of shoe would improve. It never did. I have an average size 8 medium width foot and have never had this issue with any hiking, tennis, walking, etc type shoe. I feel this is a design flaw. The back of the shoe heel is inclined too far towards the front of the shoe and this causes exteme discomfort on the achilles. Others have also reported the same problem. Don't buy this shoe until this is fixed - you will be sorry! I want a refund from AHNU!

Comments about Ahnu Montara II Waterproof Hiking Shoes - Women's:
Cons: This shoe cuts into one of my ankles in a way so painful that it renders the pair unusable. My other foot feels fine in the shoe - very comfortable. This shoe probably fits some feet, but not all. My foot is not unusual in any way that I know of, so anyone with my common foot shape may also find this shoe uncomfortable.
Pros: I bought these online because of their superior specs - Vibram outsoles, eVent waterproofing (comparable to Gortex), dual-density EVA midsole, urethane shank, waterproof nubuck leather and the fact that it wasn't made of many pieces stitched together that might later split. This isn't listed in the specs, but they also have a partially gusseted tongue and great laces. I wish I could wear them. Now I have to pay to ship them back.
Sizing: My normal shoe size is a 9. My Merrels were a 9.5, so I tried that size first, but I ended up having to get these in a 10.
Disclaimer: I gave two stars instead of one because on one foot, the shoe felt fantastic; I think they could work for some feet.
