Oboz Firebrand II Hiking Shoes - Men's is rated 4.3659 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Shoe for Me Without a doubt the most comfortable and supportive shoe I have ever worn (and I'm in my 60's). Perfect for trail hiking. Used them on many trails in the National Parks this summer at Zion, Bryce and both rims of the Grand Canyon (light packs; not shure how they would do for heavy backpacking). Also used them, for urban hiking and museum death marches in Paris this fall during many rainy days. Happy feet all the time! Do run a bit warm due to the waterproof feature, so I would alternate socks during the day. If they made a non-waterproof version, I would buy them in a heartbeat, just to have the versatility of choosing the right pair for the day's conditions. I used to be a big time runner, so I'm pretty demanding of shoes, but these answer the call.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoes! I spent a lot of time checking out a new pair of everyday shoe that I could use for hiking as well as playing with the kids in the yard and running errands. I also wanted something that was waterproof, yet breathable. These shoes did not disappoint! It took a little time to break in (about a week or so), but once they were broken in they quickly became my favorite. Great traction for hiking around on trails and on rocks. They are waterproof yet breathable and kept my feet cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I actually logged on to see if they were still available so I could buy a replacement pair in the next few weeks! The only cons I see are the break in time (don't buy them and go on a four mile hike the next day), and the soles wearing out after a year. I love them enough that I am willing to look past that and will be buying another pair soon!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oboz to Peru and back I bought these shoes for one reason, we were on our way to Peru for our thirty year anniversary. I new we had a lot of hikeing to do like going to the top of Machupichuu, Saxywoman and visiting all the cities in between. Everywhere you walk in Peru is either up on downhill and very uneven sidewalks and ancient trails. These shoes never let me down, were very comfortable from the moment I first put them on with great traction on every trail Peru had to offer. I took a second pair of hiking boots with me but never used them once because my Firebrand II were so light and comfortable. I even got several compliments fron other hikers on how good they looked. I think I will buy another pair just in case they decide to stop making them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe Bought these shoes to replace a pair of cross trainers that fell to bits very quickly. Needed shoes for a 45KM. coastal walk. Mainly beaches and rocky headlands with occasional wetlands. On receipt of shoes wore them around house and into town for a couple of days. Very impressed with instant wearability. These shoes performed very well on coastal walk and I was impressed with their waterproof qualities when crossing swampy wetlands. Traction on a wide variety of surfaces was excellent. Seriously considering buying a second pair. Very interested to see how they wear over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply put, these are good shoes I needed to go with size 9.5, even though my shoe size is 8.5. Comfortable from the get go. No break in required. Played around with the laces. Seemed to work best when they're tight. Walked through driving rain into a muddy marsh with no problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable, Dry Hiking Shoe I use these shoes for hiking in the Cascades. They are comfortable, have good support and traction, and keep my feet dry by being breathable and offering protection from mud and shallow streams.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for me... There was a sale at the REI store & wanted something a little lower & lighter than my Asolos. I read all the reviews here and decided to take a trip ti the local REI storetotrythem on. They fit well, they have a nice round to box, tread seemed right, waterproof. Pretty much what I was looking for. I decided to break them in doing a 20 mile overnight on the PA Appalachean Trail. We started brightan eatly, and the PA section of the trail acn be quite rocky. Right around 20 minutes in I started getting a hotspot at the seam wherethe heel ox meets the heel upper ankle area. So I stopped and put the moleskin on & we were back on our way. It was 90º out, and my sweaty geet wouldn't keep the moleskin in place. So I re-skinned it & got out the trusty duct tape. Good for the 10 miles that day. Then next day we headed out for the second 10 miles, and another hotspot. Other foot, same spot. So, more moleskin & went tight to the duct tape. No issues after that. The stability & traction was good on the trail. Minor ankle support issues, but if you want support, get a higher boot. They weren't too hot, and I didn't have to opportunity to splash in the water to check out the waterproofing. When I got home, I pulled them off & checked to see what the wear was like. The uppers handled great. No freying, cuts, etc. The soles didn't fare so well. Several of the lugs on both shoes tore clean off. The outer black sole was missing, and the inner cushiony gray sole was exposed. Several of the lugs were chewed up & half gone. I was very surprised & disappointed. I'll admit this is a slightly aggressive portion of the trail, but I've done it several times in a couple other shoes, and never had anything like the wear on these. Junk after 20 miles. I believe I'll be contacting the manufacturer to see if I cen get them replaced. I'll keep them for around the house, or gardening, or something, and find something else for a real hiking shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Terrific This is my third pair. I originally bought them to match the support of my heavy duty hiking boots (Asolo) they give almost as much support but are lighter and perfect for lighter duty use. They break in instantly and are really comfortable enough for every day wear. I spend a lot of time in the four corners area and use them constantly.
