They fit closer to the foot like a traditional laced shoe than many of the velcro-strap closure systems do and have a more comfortable foot bed liner as well. They also have additional traction (beyond the razor-siped soles on many of the original styles) specifically designed for road/pavement running, with just an extra 1-2mm in key spots to allow for additional wear over time and enough protection so you can feel comfortable pushing the miles without worrying about the soles of your feet fatiguing.
The only word of caution I would give is to know that these are not designed as trail running shoes, and can therefore feel moderately slippery if you get off-road into situations with fine dust, mud, wet leaves, pine needles, etc. though after some adjustment to speed and technique with an extra dose of caution, you can run comfortably on maintained trails.

Rated4out of5byTommy PensylfromEnjoying the shoesLeft shoe is slightly too short, leading to pressure on that big toe and slight discomfort after long periods of wearing the shoe; I'd probably go with a size up next time. Otherwise, shoes are great. Very nice and fun to feel the ground under your feet. Nice for playing ultimate frisbee.
Was suffering symptoms of plantar fascitis when I bought these. That has gotten much better, although it's hard to tell whether the improvement is due to the shoes or just time.

Rated2out of5byTallEricfromPoor manufacturing qualityI'm a long time owner of various FiveFinger models and absolutely love them.
However, I have now purchased this model twice, and both times the pull tab on the fast lace system broke the first time I used the shoe.
I have an older model with the fast lace system, and I've never had any issue with the pull tab.
Hopefully this is a issue with a small batch of these shoes that will be fixed soon.

Rated1out of5byDesertDragon06fromi give up - going back to normal shoesAfter giving minimalist shoes a try for months, I give up. Despite all the hype about how no arch support will actually make your feet stronger and how no cushioning will toughen your feet, I am trading in the vibrams for regular shoes. The concept is ridiculous - like saying you can improve your cardio fitness by not breathing, and flies in the face of medical science. And consumers are beginning to show that the minimalist fad is fading. I'll listen to my podiatrist and trainer, and spend on real shoes, custom insoles, and good running technique.

Rated5out of5byvailtcfromI Love my Vibram FiveFinger ShoesThese shoes fit like a glove. I wear them all day and especially during workouts. When I have run with these shoes, I do so on trials. My feet are much stronger now after wearing these for the past 5 or so months. It has made huge difference in my jogging.

Rated4out of5byItMustBeJamesfromSolid running shoes; Few drawbacksI've run between 9 and 20 miles per week in these shoes, including 5ks, 10ks, mud runs and lots of training runs. They're among the lightest-weight running shoes I can find and dry quickly when wet/muddy. I find them best for street, asphalt or packed dirt trails. Rock and gravel trails get old quickly when wearing these. The speed laces are quick and do their job. They do make it a bit hard to attach a foot pod or an RFID race tag, but there are creative ways around that. My only disappointment is that the impact area (ball of your foot) does wear out faster than I'd like. Still, they last a good long while. Great shoes and I'll be buying another pair when I wear these out!

Rated5out of5byCassfromSore Feet? Get these!I have arthrithis in feet, ankles, knees. Prone to cramping toes, arch, and swollen ankles. Walking painful. These Vibrams stopped all the cramps and pains. I can walk miles now. Corrected my walking on outside of foot. Ankles don't swell. I can't say enough about how great this footwear is.

Rated5out of5byadventurer13fromHappy Feet!!!This was my first pair of Vibrams but I soon bought several more (different styles). These are among my favorites because the laces make them easier to pull on your feet.
If You have been considering these barefoot shoes please don't wait any longer. When I put these on in the store (where you should first go to get the proper fit for your feet) my feet seem to relax so quickly in them I gave an audible "ah". I know I was smiling broadly at the wonderful comfort. The cautions about transitioning slowly should be followed carefully but I have no doubt you will do it as eagerly as I have.
