Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't be happier! This is the third pack that I have tried out for backpacking...third time was the charm! The pack is so comfortable. It feels like it was custom built. I tried the Osprey Aura 50 but the shoulder straps were to narrow at the base of my neck so I opted for the Gregory Deva 60 pack. There is ample storage. I love the easy access zipper compartment for the sleeping bag (with optional flap to divide sleeping bag compartment from main compartment). There are two ways to access the main compartment: through the top and through a zipper to open it like a suitcase...very convenient. Top part detaches for a day use pack. I love the position of the nalgene holder: instead of being perpendicular to the ground, it is parallel so I can reach it while on the go (and the bungee-like cord keeps it in place). Finally, the pocket on each hip belt allows you to keep chapstick and snacks easily accessible! I just wish it had the mesh backing that some of the other packs out there have. I feel like I could have used more ventilation on my back; however, the contoured design of this pack was sooo comfortable! Out of all my packs, I feel like this one allowed me to hold the most weight without feeling like it. For this most recent trip, my pack was 34 pounds but didn't feel like that at all!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice bag I am jelouse I bought this for my wife. We had her measure and tried on different bags. I should first say that my wife is Chinese and has a small frame. Thus only two bags actually fit her properly. This bag has a strong plastic form which pushes into your back. This form makes sure the weight is properly placed on your spine. Moreover it helps keep your posture correct during your hiking. The bag does not have have a rain fly like my bag. However on our last trip it rain a lot, and my bag with it's fly was soaked, yet my wifes bag was dry! It was as though the material in this bag repelled water while my bag soaked it up. The bag was costly, however I felt like my wife bought a working piece of art. truly an awesome bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Comfortable!! I chose this pack because it is well made, has lots of compartments, and is very comfortable. I have done several training hikes loaded with 30-50 lbs, and found it to still be comfortable. The extra pockets/compartments were clearly designed by someone who said, "Hey, wouldn't it be great to have a camelback hose option on both sides? How about easy to reach water bottle pockets? LIttle pockets on the hip straps? Make the main section big enough for a large bear can. A lunch compartment on the back? A decent sized top pocket for rain gear and first aid? Let's make the zippers bigger and sturdy." My maiden overnight voyage proved the backpack to be excellent--only complaint would be that it was large enough for me to bring along a bunch of heavy stuff I don't need!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Where has this pack been all my life? I made a mistake my friends. I bought an ill fitting pack because I didn't know better, I loaded that thing up with way to much weight and I killed my back on a 110 mile section of the AT. Then I came home and decided to get fit properly for a pack and the Gregory Deva is what I ended up with. And I love that thing. I haven't had it out on an actual trip yet but I've loaded it up with everything including food and water for a day hike to test the weight and it honestly felt like there wasn't even anything there. It's also got the approval of my chiropractor and let me tell you, that's not easy. I really didn't think a pack could be this comfortable. I think I'm in love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In Love I've used this pack on 2-3 day hikes so far. One hike was in the snow and my pack 40 lbs, but I barely felt it. It still amazes me how I sometimes have a hard time lifting my pack to get it one, but once it's on my back I don't even notice how heavy it is. I love all the storage pockets and straps. The sleeping bag compartment is the perfect size. The pocket on the top is in just the right place so I can keep my map in it and access it while I'm hiking. There is so much room that even with a full Camelbak bladder I haven't even come close to filling it to capacity yet. Yes, it is heavy, but it is so comfortable that I don't even care. I'm excited to take this backpack on even longer hikes!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy First-Timer Went on my first overnight backpacking trip this weekend, using my new bag I bought a few months ago. I went in to the store to get fitted and am glad I did, and was nicely informed before I bought it that it would be going on sale that weekend - score! We went on an overnight, 7-mile round trip with lots of ups and downs, and I stayed very comfortable throughout. My bag weighed in at about 29lbs. There are plenty of straps to tie everything down to a nice, compact bundle. Overall, it stayed pretty nicely on my hips where I wanted it, but if I didn't adjust it correctly there were a couple of times that I could tell it wanted to ride up a bit higher than where I wanted it; but I think this is more a function of my love handles getting in the way! Considering that I am a bigger gal with hips for days, I think it did very well! Also, the higher ride attributed to my least favorite part of the bag, which was that it did come up pretty far behind my head, so I wasn't really able to lean my head back very much. Not that I really needed to, but it was something I noticed. I wouldn't say that was a deal breaker for me, however. My back stayed cool, and I never noticed any discomfort/rubbing/excessive sweating. The bladder sleeve was great and there was a convenient setup for my drinking tube to be anchored right to my chest strap. The detachable day pack was okay - I tried it fanny pack style and messenger bag style and was just fine both ways, even scrambling over rocks. The front pocket was large enough to hold a Nalgene bottle, lightweight fleece half-zip, camera case and sunglasses case, so plenty of space. Not sure how much I'll be using it as a day pack in the future, however. I wish there were more exterior pockets, and my next bag will probably be a little bigger. But this is a great bag, and I easily fit my sleeping bag and pad, roll-up camp chair, our two-man tent, and food/snacks inside, along with the bladder. I strapped my camp shoes and trekking poles to the exterior.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Comfortable I tried this on in the store and thought it was extremely comfortable. My husband saw it on sale a few weeks later and bought it for me. I had to take it back to the store to get it fitted correctly, and the staff did a great job of helping me with that. This pack has many great features. The top converts into a day pack. One of the best things about this pack is that you can change out the belt and straps to custom fit it it to your body. I'm a short, stout (okay, fat, but stout sounds stronger) woman, and I've always had a hard time getting things to fit me properly. I went with the extra small frame and medium sized belt and straps. So far I've loaded it with 10 pounds and hiked around in it. I've yet to do an overnight trip, but I have packed it up with all my gear and everything fit perfectly. I really like the pack. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a little heavy, but hopefully the extra comfort will be worth the extra weight.
