Very versatile. Layered with a fleece cardigan it is comfortable walking at 20 deg F. The Large size fits comfortably over a size 42 sport coat but is about 4 in. too short to wear with a sport coat.

The Pine Tar color appeared gray on my computer. I was surprised when I got the jacket; it was a nice dark muted-green color. I like the color but it was a surprise. "Forest green" would be a better color description.

The breathable rip stop nylon is Teflon coated. In my sink test it shedded water extremely well.

The hood rolls nicely into a collar. The front zipper zips up to chin high. There is a handy inside 3x5 in. pocket under the collar sized for an ID card and emergency currency.

A storm flap over the high quality front zipper has nice Velcro closures.

The bottom hem does not have a draw string which would be useful for cold windy conditions.

I had this jacket for two months. It rained a couple of times lightly and the jacket worked great. Today it poured for the 30 minutes it takes me to walk to work. I got to work and hung the jacket over a chair so it would dry. A half hour later I put it on to go back outside and the sleeves and hood were wet but the outside was dry. This jacket is not water resistant. If I would have been stuck outdoors in any significant rain I would have been soaked with this jacket. Thankfully REI takes back items and I returned it today for a more expensive jacket. Next time I will not purchase a cheap item if I don't know firsthand that it works well.

The jacket is nice and big for the size so it would work well in cooler or cold weather with a fleece or light hoodie underneath only if you aren't going out in heavy rain.

I'm 6'1", 170lbs and the large was WAY too big. The jacket is missing elastic at the bottom so it just felt like I was wearing a poncho.

I purchased one about two months ago, and I've been very pleased. The jacket is very good quality, the zippers work well, and the velco for the rain closures are nice. The size is a little bit generous, but that's handy for wearing layers. It keeps you dry, as advertised. Thumbs up.

Being on the Lost Coast with lots of rain, I was looking for a nice rain jacket since I ride my bike to work. Found this jacdket on the REI Outlet site and for the price, decided to give it a go. WOW! Great jacket at any price!

In the mornings with a slight chill or some wind, this jacket keeps any wind from reaching me. In the rain, I kept completely dry and the jacket was big enough to fit over my backpack (REI Lookout 40) to keep my pack dry. Some mentioned this extra 'bulk' as a downside but I specifically was looking for something roomy. However, the jacket doesn't feel bulky when worn alone.

Packs small, lightweight, nice outside chest pocket. Now a regular resident in my day pack.

This jacket is better than I expected, but do not expect it to be very breathable. The coat fits perfect (Size L - 5'10 175 athletic build with broad shoulders)

Buying this, I wanted a jacket that I could wear to work during the occasional rain, then also out for casual wear in crummy weather. Works perfect for both, but just remember you are not shelling out big $$ for a good breathable material.

this is a great jacket and so far i've been using it in socal with the unusual wet weather we've been getting. its been serving its purpose in keeping the water out and does a good job as a wind breaker too. its meant to be lightweight so of you want any warmth you have to layer it with some sort of insulation layer. it also has a neat feature where you can pack it into one of the pockets and then you can use it as a pillow!

one minor annoyance of had with this jacket is with the velcro that holds closed the storm flap that goes over the zipper. when carrying the jacket around, the velcro can stick to the mesh lining that is on the inside of the jacket. its not a big deal, but i just feel like its damaging the mesh lining a tiny bit each time that happens.

This works well as an outer shell and provides warmth depending on how you wear it. Hood tucks away nicely. You can easily layer under it and it would still fit - the fit is a tad on the larger size but I like it this way.
