The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Wireless Bike Computer:
I recently switched to a 29er and this computer was INCREDIBLY difficult to program. It requires taking multiple measurements, calculating average wheel base coverage, and multiple manual inputs on a basic click-through interface. After all that it is only roughly accurate for speed and distance. I checked it against a GPS unit several times and it was off by about 3/4 of a mile after about 14 miles.
The display is nice and large. Makes reading while riding tough terrain easy.
I intend to return it and find one preprogrammed for my size bike.
As usual the customer service at REI was fantastic.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Wireless Bike Computer:
I really like this computer. It gives speed, distance, average speed, top speed, time, and temperature. It mounts on the handlebar, and is easy to see there. It's really easy to switch between modes. I use it both when I'm commuting and when I'm training.
Two drawbacks: You have to mount the sensor on your front tire, not the back. The top speed is not always accurate. It has given me a reading of 71 mph for a ride that was only on flat city streets. I don't go anywhere near that speed even coming down a steep mountain.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Wireless Bike Computer:
We use them on our mountain bikes as well as our road bikes. We are very satisfied with the product and the price. I think the instructions show the wrong direction to mount the fork sensor. Could cause damage if the fork sensor was hit by spoke magnet. Unit works well with the fork sensor mounted on the front side of the fork instead of the back side.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Wireless Bike Computer:
So, the pro's: huge readout means reasonably large numbers to read, it's kinda cool to have the temp on there, setup was easy enough if you read the directions, and single button functionality is always a bonus on a bike computer I think. It's also survived some pretty heavy rain so that's nice.
Now for the con's: with so much info on the screen it can be hard to see what is what with just a quick glance. So, double-edged sword. It's a sexy idea to have the whole thing be the button, but I think the spring is a little too stiff compared to how firmly it's mounted to your handlebars so pushing the button tends to rotate it a little. Auto start/stop would be nice (but I primarily commute and tour). For the most part it's accurate, but sometimes going over a big bump it'll register an unreasonably high speed (70mph+) for an instant, which makes the max speed function useless. This only happens sometimes, I assume it depends on the location of the magnet relative to the sensor or what. Either way they could probably fix it with a little basic smoothing algorithm. However, it does NOT get messed up by bike headlamps like some wireless units (VDO, I'm lookin' at you), so that's nice.
I'd say as soon as they work out the kinks with the max speed issue and maybe change the button to be either a normal button or keep the computer-as-button idea but use more of a rocker button type, it'll be a killer computer. Heck, I'd buy five. But until then I'd say it's about a 2.5 star piece of equipment.

Notes:
1. Mount the magnet near the top line of the sensor.
2. Make sure you replace the batteries with the writing visible. (Duh!) When the battery runs down, you will see variations in the speed indication. I replaced both 2032's at the same time (at 1,200 miles).
3. When resetting, take care that the rubber button doesn't get caught under the case. If the device appears inoperative, check the reset button. I use a blunt instrument (ball pen) to reset, but it can still get offset.

I have been using this quite happily since I got it. I found that it's set up was fairly simple. It seems rugged enough that I can leave it on my bike while transporting it and it has handled the wetter, rougher rides I've been on. I find the read out easy to read while riding.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Wireless Bike Computer:
I bought this computer because I liked the simplicity and large display. Unfortunately, the computer can't recieve the information from the sensor unless it's within a foot from it, and the sensor is as close from rubbing aganist the magnet as it possibly can be. Also, the mounting for the sensor is just two zip ties, and with normal use these don't hold up the sensor for very long, in which case the whole thing ends up getting smacked by my spokes and flies off from my bike.
Seems like a probably got a bad egg as far as the readout is concerned, but the mounting for the sensor is just a really bad design in my opinion.
