I didn't follow the manufacturers guidelines for sizing. Their two finger rule made the hat sit too loose. I hate chasing a hat when an errant gust of wind blows it off my head.
All and all, it works well keeping the sun out of my eyes, off my neck and the sweat from rolling down my face.

I used this hat on several warm days in Moab, UT.recently This hat did everything that I expected it to do. It is light weight, the wide brim & the SPF fabric protected me from the sun, the ample vents near the top of the hat kept my head at the right temperature. I have also used this hat streamside while fly fishing with satisfaction, hat stayed right on my head during a few wind gusts.

Great hat, this is the third Tilley hat I have purchased. The other two are different colors. What I like about this hat is that the back of it doesn't hit my pack, which I found annoying with other hats I tried. The other item is the small vented area on the top of the hat allowing ventilation but little rain.

I hike in the High Sierra all the time and never leave without my Tilly Hat. Some of the reviewers complain that this had doesn't breath as well as some other hats. This is true, but what works great is soaking the hat in an ice cold river and putting it on your head. It feels great when the sun is beating down.

I love how different sizes are available. My local REI only had a couple of sizes (one too big, one too small) so I had to guess what my correct size would be. Most of the colors are ugly, except for khaki olive, which I got. This hat comes with a guarantee so it's going to serve you for life :)

I use this hat mainly for sun protection while playing golf and traveling/touring when outdoors. I machine wash it after each round of golf and it usually dries completely overnight; on my older ones, I have hand-washed when away from home and it does not dry as quickly.

For whatever reason, my local REIs didn't stock the larger sizes (6.75" in my case) of this product. I finally just ordered it online.
I used it this past weekend twice in very sunny and very windy weather. It held up great in the wind as long as you didn't forget to use the strap.

** This is an update for my past review **
I've owned this hat for awhile now and it's the best hat I've ever owned. My first review stated "a little pricey", I'd like to revise that to ==> "WORTH EVERY PENNNY"..!
In HOT weather it keeps my head "cool" and in cold weather it keeps my head "warm".
I also find when you need to wash this hat, just rinse it off in the shower, Pat down with a towel and put it on a jar or similar to dry. Mine drys in about an hour or so.
Follow Tilley's measuring guide and Order a size larger than you would a regular hat and it should fit great. I sometimes forget I'm wearing it... ...YES, Tilley's are that comfortable.

This hat is described as not water resistant but I found it to do well repelling rain so I would say it is semi water resistant. The large brim provides great sunshade. The vent does a nice job keeping your head cool even in 90's weather. No hat can be expected to keep your head cool over 95 deg.
And the chin strap is a little awkward to use. It is a bit like a shoe lace and can get pretty soaked. I retied mine to suit my taste.
I have had the hat fall into water and it does float pretty well.
It is very nice to wear with the brim either up or down.
It is easy to clean in the washer and easy to reshape after stowing for a plane ride or in a pack.
The pocket in the crown is handy for a fishing license or a few dollars..
The replacement warranty is great. 100% if it is damaged, 50% if lost/stolen.
My only negative commens are that the brim is sewed on slightly crooked, that is, the front point of the brim is not exactly centered on the front of the crown.
Overall I am pleased with the hat.
