Stopped the noise and vibration. If it helps the gas mileage , the jurys still out. Mounted on 2013 4runner

Easy to install and does not scratch your car. I got this because I thought it would improve the look of my car but have been surprised to find that it actually does improve wind noise and *maybe* my MPGs.

I travel alot for work and I always bring my bike with. Without the fairing the wind noise would just drive me insane!! I was skeptical at first but once I installed it on my roof rack, it made a big difference with the rack noise. Now I dont have a loud irritating hum. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. lol!

Comments about Yakima Fairing - Standard Sizes:
This is my second set of roof racks from Yakima. But I wish I still had my old fairing, the version with the lower edge lined with a rubber insert. It not only protects the vehicle's paint, the design also keeps the fairing flush to the vehicle's roof. No gaps into which the air can pass through and make additional noise. Yakima probably thought to redesign the fairing so that assembly is quicker and easier to assemble, and also cheaper to manufacture. From a business stand point, these reasons make sense. But the product deserves a better design. The plastic support structure behind the fairing need not have gone all the way to the bottom of the product, which necessitated the use of 'pods' and sticky foam shoes, needed to keep it from scratching the paint. It could have just ended 1 inch above the lower edge of the fairing. And would have kept the gap out of the design equation. Maybe we'll see this in the next revision. For now, the fairing helps reduce noise, but it's still quite disappointing for the money.

Bought this for my Yakima system. Why did I wait so long? Great product. Only complaint is that the SKS housing for locks was not with it. Already had the core locks. But a must have for your car rack. Thanks again Yakima

I have a 2003 Acura 3.2TL which uses the Q towers and two sets of clips to put a system on the roof. I pretty much solely use my racks for carrying snowboards... so I have the fat cat system (that carries upto 4 snowboards) pretty much permanently attached to my racks.
I was running around without the fairing for a little while and you would get this midrange whistling noise from the racks when you got upto around 65mph... and it would be pronounced by 70mph and you couldnt ignore it by the time you hit 75-80mph.
The fairing pretty much completely cured this whistling noise. Every once in a while you'll be in a curve on the high way and the wind will hit it just right such that you hear the whistle for a second or two.
But it does seem to create its own noise. Rather than whistling, I now have more wind noise....that noise you get on super windy days...days where you can feel the wind pushing your car. I get that type of wind noise more so with the fairing up than with it not installed.
But I would MUCH rather have a little extra wind noise to get rid of the whistling. The whistling would drive me insane.
And I can't comment much on whether it helps or kills gas mileage because I've never run a full tank of gas with the fairing off. But with no racks at all my car does about 25mpg highway. With the racks, fairing, and 3 snowboards up top my car does about 20mpg highway. So take it for what it's worth... sorry I couldn't give a number for racks up without the fairing.
this thing locks but you have to buy a SPECIAL attachment. JUST THE SKS LOCKS WONT LOCK THE FAIRING ALONE.
but in terms of durable I would say this things fine. it didnt seem to move at all or have any problems at highway speeds. i even went excess of 90mph at one point... so no worries about it not securing properly etc.
side note: the thing is expensive

This does the job. It reduces the noise. You'll notice the difference. Unfortunately it's not very durable. I've gone through two of these in the past 6 years. It is made out of plastic and the ends crack from wind stress and then it starts to make a banging noise. If you travel out in the desert, the hot temperatures will melt the adhesive for the foam guards which supposed to protect the paint. The best thing to do is to modify it with some tubing that will not be affected by the heat. I tried repairing the flarings each time the ends cracked but to no luck. I wish Yakima made these things out of sheet metal instead of plastic. But they do work to reduce the noise. If you plan to own the same vehicle for more than three years you should think about getting at least two of these - but then they'll probably start making them out of sheet metal. I got to get on line and order my third one. Good luck.

I would given it 5 stars If it wasnt for the price. It keeps the rack from whistling. It's a bit over priced for a piece of stamped out plastic.

I've used a number of different rack setups on past cars, and I'd definitely recommend this Yakima fairing as an add-on to your setup. It greatly cut down on wind noise/whistle when I recently bought a setup for my new car. It's stable, does it's job well, fits perfectly based on the size in the fit guide, and I haven't noticed much of a drop in mpg (without bikes on board). It's pretty easy to install, the only tricky part was getting the little rubber sticker pads to line up correctly, and it adds some sticker space!

I had heard that the fairing would reduce noise. Noise wasn't really my concern, but rather a lot of vibration. Air was coming up over the windhsield and about 40 mph the roofrack was vibrating like crazy. I added the fairing, and all the sudden, no vibration, much less noise, looks great. happy.
