perfect for a camp bottle

I generally keep this bottle empty in my backpack and only use it at the end of the day as my devoted food/night water so I dont have to filter again in the morning. This "bottle" is sturdy and can take a trashing. I would only use water in them however, they tend to hold the taste of gatorade/other drink mix (unless you're going for that). The handled version would be nice if you wanted to splurge. The only time I had one fail was with a run in with cactus needles. The plastic does get more flexible and soft with use. I recommend the clear ones so you can see any unwanted growth

Great concept, but has its flaws

I bought 2 of these bottles for my 8 week journey to Uganda. I loved how easily they can be rolled up and put in your pack without taking up any space. Drinking isn't super easy with it... You have to use two hands or it'll all kinda dump quickly on your face. In addition, I couldn't get the plastic taste out of the bottle!! I eventually quit using these bottles and just bought plastic throw away bottles. I haven't used these bottles since that trip... Not easy to clean and the plastic taste is impossible to get rid of :/

great bottle

wonderful water bottle, especially for long hikes where its nice to minimize weight towards the end of the day. Four stars instead of five, because my first bottle got a cracked cap...not a big deal, i replaced it for super cheap. then it got a pin-hole sized hole in one of the seams. but, i will still continue to use my other, and am looking into purchasing another to replace the one that died :( it should be said though, that i used these bottles almost everyday for about six months, so its understandable if one of them fails after that much use (especially bc it was brand new to REI when i got it....maybe they worked out the kinks?) bottom line, buy this bottle.

Lightweight, durable, Sawyer compatible

I took two of these on a three day trek down the Lost Coast Trail in CA. I paired them with my Sawyer Mini and have never been happier with my water setup. These fit the Sawyer filter. They are sturdy and roll up nicely when empty. I would fill these at stream crossings, cap them, and put them in my side pockets. Then, I would drink directly through the Sawyer or just dump into my pot to boil. It saved me SO much time and weight to not have to stop and pump water on the trail. I can't tell you how happy I am with this setup! You really can't get anything else this lightweight, durable, and packable (especially at this price).

Perfect in many situations.

If weight is a consideration you can't get something this light that is durable. A plastic soda bottle works, but will wear out. For me this is my reserve water supply, even if I have my bladder hydration system filled, or partly filled. The only down-sides are minor. It is a bit more difficult to clean than a wide mouth bottle and I can't scoop up snow to add to my water like I do with a wide mouth bottle. I have had two of these and used them probably 50 times or more and had no leaks or problems. One more thing; I see they make fancier models now, but if they weigh more I would not consider them (personal preference: weight and convenience are always a trade off).

No longer buying bottled water

I carry this in my purse when I know I will be going somewhere where drinks are not allowed or water will be expensive and drinking fountains are available. Airport checks are easier with this bottle because it doesn't Take up room in my carry on and it is clear. Had issues traveling with my aluminum bottle. Great for baseball games and amusement parks where water can cost a fortune. I've saved so much money with my platypus, not to mention the reduction in plastic waste produced. The only con and my reason for 4 stars is that due to its collapsible shape which is a pro, it can be difficult holding it up to your mouth to drink. I spilled water on myself the first few times I used it. Overall, the pros out weigh the cons and you eventually learn how to keep the water from spilling.

space-saving & light

I've used mine every day for half a year now and highly recommend it! It flattens excellently when empty to save space in your daypack for hikes and I've even rolled it up and stowed it in my mini-purse. Water tastes great, no leaching of plastic flavor at all. Little micro-folds will appear in the plastic with repeated use but they're topical and don't cause it to leak. Bottle cap seals perfectly and doesn't leak as well. I like the minimal design of this bottle and don't care for pop-tops, flip-lids, or other crafty features that just give bottles extra points of failure and extra weight. I have no problem drinking from this one-handed: the trick is to grip the two laminated edges of the bottle (where the profile dips in a creates an hourglass figure) and squeeze, which will give the bottle structural integrity as you upend it to drink.

Portable, Packable, Practical

After many years of daily use, I decidedly to replace my older softwater bottles. The product purchased is on the left which slides into the sleeve on the right (prior purchase). I would have given five stars, but the new bottles have the spout in the center and lack the ”eye” for easy carry on the side. The center spout is in the same location as the Velcro strap Used to secure the bottle in the sleeve. It works, but us not a perfect fit.

Takes up almost no room!

This is a great bottle for extra water. When you are done it rolls up and I secure it with a rubber band. Great for extra water for the dog on hikes without a lot of rivers/steams. We used them to store filtered water in Buckskin Gulch and after we drank and used the water for our backpacking meals again we just rolled them up and they took up a small amount of room compared to other bottles. I keep one in the refrigerator at my office for cold water all day.

Absolutely no coloring of water taste

Great product that collapses to almost nothing when empty. This makes it not great for refilling via submersion, but you can blow it up and pour it in just fine. I wouldn't pour hot water in here, but just use your Nalgene for that and when it cools, transfer it. Cap needs to be attached and a friend has one where the cap cracked, but my (two) have been great so far.

Nice light weight bottle

My son won a Platypus water bottle years ago and it is still in use today. When I went backpacking recently I realized my two water bottles (one Nalgene and one Kleen Kanteen) weighed almost one pound ... empty! This is one of two has been purchased to add to my pack, empty or full. It won't add much weight. One important point: these don't dry well. The creases at the edges hold water and don't dry well. I saw a recommendation that these should be rolled and stored in the freezer to prevent anything from growing in the moisure.
