GoPro HERO3+ Silver Edition Camera is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Video! I just received this as a gift. I love it. I took it out ice climbing and got some great video. Link it to an IPhone for easier use and to see where the camera is pointing and what you're taking video or photos of. Can't wait to take it out on more (mis)adventures! The camera itself, for me is easy to use especially with the ability to link to my phone. The editing software on the other hand will take some time; this is my only complaint that will correct itself with time and use; otherwise the camera does all it says it will. My friend has an older version. The Silver 3+ is much smaller and lighter; better quality all around. **I did have an issue with the battery. Make sure you charge and deplete the battery before taking it out. The instructions say to do this 3 times before it will keep a full charge. Mine didn't hold a charge very long even after doing this. GoPro's customer service like REI's in my estimation is awesome! They are sending me a new battery to correct the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them! Alright, I own this edition and the Hero 3+ Black Edition. Both witch are really good POV cams that can really go anywhere you feel comfortable putting. I picked this up as a secondary cam to add support footage for my Black Edition witch is my go-to GoPro for my helmet and the Silver looks back on the bow of my kayak. Again, both are really good cams, but for those thinking Black or Silver Editions for the most if you're not needing the WiFI remote, Superview, or ProTune mode as well editing in a high level the Silver Edition will serve you well and you can use that saved 100 dollars for other needed accessories like a Class 10 micro SD card or spare batteries witch you'll likely need one or two extra. I have 6 plus the battery bacpac! Now I won't go in total depth like I did on my older Black Edition review, you can go read that, but I'll hit on the main differences I noticed in a detailed review witch are some things to think about knowing how you plan to use the cam overall. No cons, but differences and even slight pros. Now I'm not a video professional. I'm between a regular video buff and a video professional, so these are somethings I noticed that you might not care about or ever really see unless you know what to look for or doing side-by-side comparisons. The differences besides features are bitrates between the Black and Silver. The Silver does record at a lower bitrate, its still high def but lower. On my Black a 10 second clip is about 5MB larger then the Silver recording the same footage at the same time, both in 1080p @ 60FPS, both being synced with the remote to have exactness in start/stop time. The Black is about 35MB and the Silver about 31MB. What this lessen data means is less quality per frame. Now both videos look good and I use the footage together and its not like one cut to the next you see less definition as its still 1080 @ 60 FPS, unless you really start looking closer and nit-picking closely, or just the lighting conditions were bad. Really having more data within the frames helps you work with the footage in post doing color correction and grading. Something the regular users won't be doing at all or much of. Also more so with the Black Edition in Protune mode as bitrate is I think 45Mbps versus the Silver witch doesn't have Protune recording at 25Mbps witch is a nice size difference. This is worth noting as this is how and why GoPro's online videos look so good and unless you're using the best edition, in the best lighting conditions, and editing on a high level doing color correction & grading, white balancing, etc you won't get that GoPro advertisement quality. It will be good footage, don't get me wrong. It will look sharp, rich, crisp, and indeed be very nice high def video that will still blow peoples minds when share your action sport footage, just don't quite expect what you see on the adverts. And even if you color correct and grade with the Silver Edition you don't have much control as it lacks Protune witch gives you not only larger amounts of data (picture information) but its RAW format and not ran through the in cam compression. Keeping on bitrate there is two plus sides so less bitrate that is still a high def video and the first is storage. I can fit a extra hours worth of footage on the Silver with a 64GB card (5 hours and 30 minutes) then the Black (4 hours and 30 minutes) as the lesser bitrate overtime saves space. Another plus in having lower bitrate is the overall read/write speed of the SD card you'll needed. You'll still need a Class 10 card but thee prices very depending of red/write speeds. Above I mentioned the Silver records at a max bitrate of 25Mbps. For the Silver I went with the Scandisk 64GB Ultra witch cost about 60 dollars. It's write speeds; the speed at witch data (video) can be written to the card is more then fast enough. Were as on the Black Edition in Protune mode I had to go with The Scandisk 64GB Extreme, a 100 dollar SD card to insure I'd be able to cover that 45Mbps write speed. This is something to think about as it goes into the start-up cost of getting a GoPro. Also I'm sure battery life is a little bit better do to this, but you'll still use about 1 battery per hour of footage on average. So if recording extend times get more batteries or the battery Bacpac. So if you're thinking Black or Silver as most do think about it. The Silver will still get high quality HD video wit the same frame rates. You'll get that same smoothness or slow motion. It does lack Protune witch most don't need or fully understand. It lacks Superview and other smaller things like not as high photo burst rates. Black 30/1 vs Silver 10/1 but in owning I've never needed to take 30 pictures in 1 second. Or two less megapixel photos. Speaking of photos none look good until you crop and then they are very nice. Just as amazed by the pictures as the video. Now I will say this! If you want the remote get the Black Edition. The Silver is 300 dollars and the remote is 80 dollars. If you buy the Silver then the remote for 20 more dollars you can just get the Black edition. So is the Black edition better just off the quality of footage captured? Yes. Is it very noticeable? No. Is the bitrate difference alone worth 100 dollars more? That's for you to say. But if you want the remote get the Black. If not and you don't need all that control of your footage in editing get the Silver that the 100 dollars and get a good SD card and a extra battery for the price of the Black.
