Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 Tent is rated 4.3333 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not for the claustrophobic This is a nearly perfect tent for solo backpackers who aren't very big people (I'm female, 5'6" and 145 pounds). It weighs almost NOTHING, which is exactly what I was looking for. It's adorably tiny, weighs well under 2 pounds, is easy to set up, doesn't collect condensation on the inside. I've only used it 4 times now, in dry weather, so I can't say anything about its durability or waterproofness - but it seems very sturdily constructed for something so lightweight and delicate. I hope it'll last me for a long time. However, I'm giving it four stars instead of five because the design doesn't utilize all the potential interior space. There are lots of guylines on the rain fly that can be staked out (you'll have to buy extra stakes if you want to stake them all out, since the tent only comes with 6) but there are very few points at which the tent body is connected to the rain fly. So no matter how taut the rainfly is, the fabric of the tent body will be billowing in on you, since there's no way to stretch it out and make it taut. Plus, it's SMALL. I can just barely sit up in it, but that's with the top of my head pushing against the fabric. It feels like a coffin when you're inside it. But again, this is worth it to me because it saves me so much weight while I hike - and even though it's expensive, I feel that this tent is worth the money if you really, really want to save on weight. (I got it with a 20%-off members' coupon, which helped). But I can't recommend it for taller people or people with broad shoulders - you'd probably be better off with the UL 2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultra Light, Packs Small, Great Solo Option! Most of my backpacking trips tend to be with 1-2 other people and we all bring our own shelter systems. While I prefer to hammock camp whenever possible, that is not always an option, especially when camping out in the high desert in Central Oregon. This tent is awesome because you get a free standing shelter that is just big enough to comfortably change clothes in, yet it packs soooooooo small! I tend to strap the tent poles along the side of my pack. Without the tent poles, you can really compress the tent, fly and footprint down to about the size of a Nalgene bottle, maybe even slightly smaller. I compress everything not the included stuff sack, then I just twist the stuff sack a few times to keep everything packed nice and tight. I also replaced the included tent stakes. While the included stakes are pretty light, my MSR Carbon Core stakes are 1/2 the weight and I have been been very happy with them! Needless to say, this thing weighs almost nothing. My only concern is how fragile it is... It doesn't seem like it would take much to rip the mesh or puncture the tent. Get the footprint... Be careful with it... And you should be fine! If you tend to go solo, I would strongly encourage you to get this tent as opposed to a Bivy Sack. More comfort, the ability to keep your pack out of the elements without having to bring another tarp, and the ability to change clothes while staying dry all make this a great option for solo backpacking! G-Money!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid 3 (almost 4) season shelter -light I picked this little guy up last year in an effort to lighten my backpacking load. So far, its worked great in both summer and winter conditions (snow and brutal winds.) Havent used it in heavy rains yet. I used to run a Sierra Designs 4 season solo tent which I still have and feel its an epic piece of gear. Problem is, its around 4lbs packed, and this one is right around 2 if you include the footprint. As I have gotten older, the thrill of sleeping under the stars with a bivvy has subsided. I sleep in desert conditions most of the time, and want a tent that will keep critters out of my sleeping space like mice, bugs, snakes, or the occasional scorpion. So, a small solo tent like this is ideal for me. It has plenty of room, and I am a 225lbs 5'11 guy. Since I used it in multi day trips sleeping in the snow, I consider it a 4 season for the time being. I always bring a bombproof tarp from another brand when I am out in the field for long periods to set up emergency shelter, or add a truly water proof layer to a camp I will be spending a long time at. So I cant say its waterproof. But if you want something light, easy to set up, and good quality, I would say you would get your moneys worth.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from difficult for me to exit the tent This tent is lightweight and has remained durable for the 10 or so nights I've used it. I am going to sell it and buy a Tarptent Notch because crawling out of the opening is a slow process for me with one replacement knee joint and the other knee arthritic. At night, when I need to pee, getting out in time can be touch and go!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a little condensation My original review seems to have aged out of the system, I bought it as soon as it came out because of the weight savings. I've been using this tent for several years now, about once a year as I don't get out solo that often. At chilly temps I do get a moderate amount of condensation, a vent in the fly would have been worth another ounce or so. Other than that, I've been really happy with the tent. There's room to sit up and change clothes, not enough for much more, but if you're looking for a one person ultralight you're not really looking for more than that. Sufficient space for my pack and sleeping pad, with little to spare, I'm 5'7", 148lbs. Much roomier than a bivy sack for about the same weight. It's nicely weather tight and stable in moderate winds, though I haven't had to ride out any big storms in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Solo Tent for Lightweight Treking Can't say enough good things about the Fly Creek UL1 tent. My only complaint is that you have to literally back into it on all fours from the entrance. This makes for some awkwardness, especially after an evening of libations with fellow hikers, and drawing in all kinds of unwanted sticks, grass and soil into your bedroom. Maybe the folks at Big Angus can modify the Fly Creek so it can be entered on the side like the Cooper Spur tent? Beside this draw back, it is light in weight, durable, and very, very easy to set up. Even in the blackest of nights. The tub is deep, can weather through a strong thunderstorm. Highly recommend that you purchase the foot print and the loft to round out your ensemble. Two very high thumbs up on this one.
