The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by summergirlfromalmost great, except for waistband buttonsI wanted to like these -- they fit much better than most versions of Sahara petite pants over the past few years. Unlike most of the previous versions, these are actually petite. But there are two inner waistband buttons (so that you can adjust part of the elastic) that hit at just the wrong place for me. I think having buttons poking into my stomach would drive me crazy, so these are going back. (It would probably work to remove the buttons and cut the elastic shorter, so that the cut ends are tucked inside the fabric -- hard to describe if you're not looking at the pants, but I think that would only disable the elastic on the front. But I decided I didn't want to perform minor surgery on full-price pants.)

by AnneAfromHiking pants unsuitable for hiking in bushI have enjoyed perhaps 6 prior iterations of the Sahara in years past, and my latest pair(s) were reaching end of their lifespan. I ordered petites in 8 and 10. The size 8 pair fit wonderfully, with the appropriate room around the loins and nice length, pockets, etc. To my consternation, however, the cut of the leg was so full that (comments about "clown pants" notwithstanding) I couldn't imagine that all the extraneous material would survive a bushwack without sustaining major structural damage.

by J.G.fromBring back the much older style!I've worn many versions of the Sahara pants in petite sizes, never found any other brand of convertibles that fit properly. The past several versions of these pants, though, have not even been worth buying, as they were too long even in petite, just cut oddly, etc. I finally broke down and bought the 2014 model, tried them on yesterday but haven't even worn them yet. I'll keep this pair, as they're at least wearable, and my old ones are all full of holes.
However, the really old models must have had a 29-inch inseam, to this model's 29.5. These will be ok with shoes on, but they're actually about a half-inch too long while my old ones are still the right length.
I MUCH preferred the built-in belt on the old models, as I always lose weight while backpacking and like to be able to cinch in the waist as needed. If other reviewers hadn't commented on the adjustment buttons on the inner waist of this beltless model, I'd never have figured out what they were for. Nice to be able to tighten them up, but the belt was a lot simpler. I do also have concerns that the buttons will dig into my skin, and that the elastic will stretch out over time and the waist will get looser and looser.
What I really hate is the pockets! I've never used the pockets on the butt, won't use these either. But I liked having the zippered inner pocket for important things inside the right front pocket. The tiny velcro-fastening pocket inside this model is really hard to access and seems useless. The best thing about the old models was the cargo pockets, with the big velcro-tabbed pocket on each side that was perfect for my folded maps and/or field guide for the day on one side, snacks on the other. Now the pockets are too small, too hard to get into with the zipper under the flap on each side. There's no way my maps will fit in them, much less any kind of field guide.
Pretty clearly this version of the Sahara pants wasn't designed by or for short women who actually hike!

by Louise108fromSteel Grey = KhakiI purchased these pants as part of my working wardrobe staple. Asphalt was similar in color to other convertible pants I own, so I selected steel grey. Upon receipt, I was surprised to receive khaki colored pants; I checked the hang tag to be sure I hadn't ordered in error. Nope! I understand computer monitors don't always accurately display colors, but in no way could I consider these pants grey.
Otherwise, fit, construction, details, and seamsmanship are satisfactory.

by Diminutive HikerfromFinally! Women's hiking pants that fit!I've been looking for hiking pants, preferably convertible, in a petite size for years. Until now, I've been forced to wear my convertible Boy Scout pants (boys' size 14) for non-Scouting events because I couldn't find any others that fit. Convertible pants were a must during a camping trip to Montana last summer -- cool mornings, warm afternoons, and cool evenings. These pants have an adjustable waist. Brilliant! I always wondered why only kids' pants have an adjustable waist. And there's a velcro tab at the ankles, so I can wear them over or above my hiking boots, and I don't have to have them hemmed. The no-sit unzip feature is also brilliant. A woman must have designed these pants. I would prefer more or larger cargo pockets, but they are perfect aside from that. I would wear them every day if I could. I just ordered another pair.

by LibraGrl49fromThanks for improving these pants! When I bought the prior version of these pants, I complained about the pockets (they previously had Velcro patches instead of more secure zippers). I also discovered that they wore through very fast on the inseam where they rubbed against the shoelace rivets of high-top style hiking boots. Thank you, REI, for fixing these problems! Now the main cargo pockets have zippers (I still think they could be a little bigger--these pants are a utility item, not a high fashion item) and the bottom of the inseam appears to have been reinforced in a way that will prevent them from tearing as they contact high-top boots. I have bought several pairs of the new, improved version.
