REI Co-op  Duck's Back Rain Cover - 60 Liters

I've had this cover out in the rain a couple of times; both times, the cover was completely soaked through, leaving me with a wet pack with drenched contents. The first time, I gave the cover the benefit of the doubt, as I was hiking through a day of torrential rains and gusty winds in the Wicklow Mountains. Second time out, it was on the AT with only a light to moderate rain. By the time we stopped for lunch (only an hour or two after the rain started) my pack was already wet, and it was drenched when we stopped hiking for the day. Really disappointed in this cover and would not recommend it to anyone; planning to replace it asap.

Wind River Mts. WY 16mile trek during October storm 60mph wind, rain and snow no leaks. Tight fit on a Deuter 65L pack stopped wind driven snow/rain. The REI Event jacket also worked great.

I needed a cover for a trip to rainy Scotland. I looked at the reviews online for this product and they were generally negative. I went to REI hoping to find an Osprey cover that fit my pack. Unfortunately they were sold out and I was left with the Duck's Back as my only option. I told the staff at the store that the reviews were really bad and I was skeptical. But after my trip, which was rainy but not extremely so, I felt that the Duck's Back deserved better then the negative reviews here. It did the job it was supposed to do, I'm not sure what happened with some of these other stories but it was just fine. My skepticism was misplaced and I'm big enough to admit I was wrong.

THis did not stop water at all. I was in Spain walking the camino and used this product solid for a week as it rained everyday for a week. It was so bad the first day I stopped got a garbage bag and put that underneath it to keep the rain off my pack. Thankfully REI will take the item back as it did not function the way it was supposed to at all. I can not recommend this product at all sadly.

I was a little hesitant purchasing this cover after reading some of the reviews but it was the best option at the time. Hiking through Linville Gorge yesterday the weather surprised us and poured, and poured, and poured. We were soaked in less than 3 minutes but luckily I was able to get this on my pack just in time. I was very surprised that my pack and everything in it was completely dry (besides my straps and back). Sleeping bag, tent, cooking supplies, all dry. Unfortunately my boyfriend's pack did not fare as well (different cover) but we still enjoyed our trip.

While this fly fit well on my Osprey Exos 58 pack, it failed in magnificent fashion on both days 2 and 3 of the Inca Trail hike. My pack was wet both days on the exterior by the end of the day; day three is was so bad my gear inside the pack was becoming wet and I was forced to go into poncho mode(hate poncho mode). The start of both days my pack was more or less dry to begin the day's hiking. My wife's built-in fly on her smaller Osprey pack worked flawlessly. I wish the REI store rep had pointed us to the Osprey rainfly and not this lame product. It will be exchanged for an Osprey cover this week.

The REI professional in the store suggested I go a little bigger, so it would fit over the things on the outside of my pack such as a pad or tent. So, I got this 60 for my 50 liter backpack. Excellent advice. Some people use these all the time for protection, especially the bottom of the pack. I use it when it rains.

We did a 8 hour hike in the rain up Mount Belford in CO, so glad we had our packs covered and on the summit we put on dry gear for the way out! Great value and fits true to size.

Nice functional rain cover.. Not sure the longevity is there.. After one trip around the mountain it already developed a small hole.. so durability and last isn't there!!

I bought the 60 litre size on the recommendation of store personnel after telling them my backpack's brand and size...but it doesn't fit. My pack is a taller, narrower shape than others of the same litre size and the raincover doesn't fit it properly. It's not long enough or deep enough. Bottom line is that pack volume is only part of the consideration buying this cover - also consider the overall shape of your pack. THe best is probably a rain cover designed specifically for your own pack and its' brand. Love the bright colour though and it does seem waterproof if it covered the whole pack.
