The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

WOW!!! Hands down the best case I have used! Bought it to go snowboarding this winter so that I would not have to worry about the snow. Today my IPhone dropped in my hot tub and spent 20 minutes at the bottom until I realized it. NOT A DROP OF WATER IN THE CASE!!!! AWESOME!!!!!

Comments about LifeProof Case - iPhone 5:
I got the lifeproof case so that I could take the phone on bike rides and to the pool without having to worry about it getting wet with a splash or sweat, or accidentally falling on the ground.
I have taken the phone on 20-50 mile rides, pool swims when I forget my workout (and only have it in an email), and into the shower so that I have my own BOOMBOX to sing to.
The case is 100% waterproof, the front side is grippy so I leave it face down often so it doesn't slide, and the back is slick plastic so it is easy to take in and out of pockets. The side buttons for volume or silence are easy to press and use.
The issue that I had at first was that I couldn't hear the person on the other line, but I got over it quick and have no problem hearing anyone anymore. I also use a Bluetooth sometimes when I am at work. The biggest issue I have with talking is that my ear sometimes hits the speaker phone button and so it switches to that, but it is an easy switch back.
The other issue I have is that the waterproof earphones chord is tiny and I have already lost it so I have to order another one from lifeproof and it is $20. Keep a good eye on these things because it is not a good situation to lose them.
Sound quality is what you would expect from a waterproof case – not the best, but not terrible quality. I tend to open the bottom charging door when listening to music because it lets more sound escape the case. If I have to leave the door closed I place the phone face down because most of the sound leaves the bottom and the back of the phone.
Overall I would recommend this case to anyone because it is skinny, protects the phone from drops, and is waterproof.
Many people may have different needs for the case, but the case meets all of my needs perfectly. My needs:
-Use near water (if I forget my swim workout paper and have to read it electronically I keep this near the edge and don't worry about it getting wet)
-Take it on a bike ride as a my gps computer (don't worry about sweat or dropping)
-Take it on a run without getting sweaty
-Fit skinny in my pocket / not be a huge obtrusive case
-Screen protection
-Sing in the shower
If you are looking for:
-A waterproof case to take it underwater and take video or pictures - this will work but I think you would be better with liquicel or griffin as this case will work but is really only an "insurance policy" for water. Just because you have insurance doesn't mean you are going to crash your car, but if you accidentally do it will protect it – same situation with this case.
-Simple drop protection – I think you can get by with a cheaper case
Service and delivery comments:
I went into the store to get this product because I was debating between white or black (although I wanted red, but that can only be ordered from lifeproof directly)
It arrived in good condition becuase I got in new in store.
REI employee helped me greately.

Comments about LifeProof Case - iPhone 5:
I purchased this to use with the bike mount so I could use iPhone based mapping/GPS software for bike rides. While the case and bar-mounted holder worked great for that, the overall hassle of the case is not worth the investment.
For the intended uses of the case it seems to work well. I got it dirty, sandy, and a little wet (not submersed) without any apparent damage to my phone.
However, major problems exist in the design. First is the small, threaded headphone plug. it is smalle and difficult to use with my fat fingers, let alone with gloves. They're tiny and easy to drop. I lost the first one in less that two weeks. Obviously, they know this is a problem since they provide you with a spare in the box which is good, but it seems like some sort of tether would work better.
Second, non-apple headphones can only be used with the adapter, which is easy to misplace.
Third, the port door broke after only 2 months of daily use. I've been pretty gentle on the case and haven't had any drops or hard landings and the one piece of this case that is designed to be opened and closed regularly broke after 2 months of typical, ordinary use. Not worth it.

Comments about LifeProof Case - iPhone 5:
I bought the case on sale with my dividend check. I need a waterproof case for a sailing trip this summer. The case is waterproof and seems to be shock resistant. It does not appear to be as shock resistant as my otter box. The only problem is that everyone said that I sounded like I was in the bottom of a well and had a head cold. They also kept asking me to repeat myself.
As an every day case this stinks, but for a functional waterproof case it is good. I am returning the case, but if nothing better comes out before my trip I will be buying another one just for wet activities.

Comments about LifeProof Case - iPhone 5:
I really feel insecure about the port door. It feels like there is so little attention given to one of the most critical portions of the case. You have to access this port a couple times a day for charging and the weather seal is effective, but feels inadequate. I felt so much more comfortable swimming and kayaking with the Escape Capsule from another vendor, but one isn't available for the iPhone 5. This is geared towards putting on and leaving on for the life of the product, rather than a temporary enclosure for adventures. It is a good blend of form and function.

It's lightweight, not bulky, and I don't have to worry about drowning my phone when I have to cross a wash that turns out to be 2.5 feet deeper than it looked!

Comments about LifeProof Case - iPhone 5:
I just got an iPhone 5. I wanted a tough case that would provide maximum protection for my iPhone outdoors. After a great deal of searching, I found the Lifeproof case got generally high marks except here. I rely heavily on REI reviews, but decided to take a chance this time. So far, I am glad I did.
While I do not intend to use my iPhone in the water, it will spend time in a canoe on the water. I need also to be able to use it in the rain and snow. The first thing I did was test it as per the instructions. After a few day of use, I got nervous, took the case off, and water proof tested it again (without the phone). Both times there were no leaks. I am now confident it will prevent water damage to the extent I need.
This case does not significantly change the size, shape, or bulk of the iPhone. I am able to access all iPhone features with the case in place.
The only real complaint I have, other than the price, is the color. I would love this case if it were international orange. If I set my phone down in the outdoors I want to be able to spot it quickly. Neither black nor white is not good for that. I put a piece of international orange duct tape on my case, but that is only on the back. It would be much better in a really bright color.

Comments about LifeProof Case - iPhone 5:
The other review talks about bubbling out and that is accurate. The case has to create some space between the phone and the case over top of the earpiece and mic so sound can pass as well as be waterproof... So, yes at the bottom and top of the screen you have to press a bit harder. The case is way less bulky than the comparable otterbox (the bulk drove me away from the Otbox, so I can't speak about it's performance). The freedom of throwing the phone in my pocket for runs, hikes, bikes, etc., without regard for weather conditions or sweat, totally outweighs having to adjust my touch pressure. And, there's something magical about taking your phone to the sink and washing it like a coffee mug!

I bought the case when I first got my iPhone becuase I am on a kayak most weekends. It worked great at first. I even jumped in the lake once with it still in my pocket and no problems at all. However, after only about 4 months of NOT ABUSIVE use, it developed a crack where the headphone plug in is. Im glad I caught it before It went in the water. I tried to contact Lifeproof, but you must have the original reciept for the warranty. I didn't have mine! For the money I definately want it to be more durable. Im sure otheres have had this same problem.

I like the case but I wish i could access the touch screen with it on. The case bubbles out and makes it impossible to type. I've emailed lifeprood twice now but I never get a response from them. I'm fed up by this point.
