I am extremely picky about footwear. Actually I hate wearing shoes. Most of the time I wear Keens due to the large toe box, but the latest styles have not been as comfortable for my ever spreading soles. That said, these bike sandals are the most comfortable shoes I own today. Wore them for the first time on Saturday and it was like being barefoot - in a good way. Even better than my regular Keen Newports. I can't say that everyone wants the same thing in a bike shoe, but for me these are close to perfect. I am saving one star in case there is something better in the distant future.

Finally. FINALLY Keen has made their Newport sandals into good biking shoes. These are normal width (similar to the Newports), the sole is decent for walking and they are reasonably comfortable for moderate distance riding.

These are not for long distance riding - as with most cross purpose shoes like this, they are heavy and the sole is not as stiff as a genuine biking shoe is. They also don't fit close enough - and if they did, they wouldn't be a good walking shoe.

The key to these is the velcro strap that goes over the instep that securely holds your foot and allows you some measure of pulling up on the pedals. I also have the Keen Arroyo biking sandals and they are not nearly as good simply because they lack this strap. I barely used them and find them (i.e. Arroyos) pretty inadequate.

The previous Keens (Commuter I and II) were painfully and seriously narrow. I often wondered if these ever fit anyone. I can fit in most bike shoes but I couldn't fit into these - and they are sandals!

I like these a lot and I'll use them to run into town, to commute, etc.. Great job by Keen on these. Finally.

Was hoping that they would fit as well as the Newport sandals (of which I have 2 pairs), but they did not. They were very wide and the fit especially near the heel was loose despite the 2 separate closure systems. The Velcro closure did not tighten enough even at the extreme position. I dont see why they could not simply modify the soles of the Newport to convert it into a bike sandal. Had to return them. REI accepted the return without any questions.

Finally, the people at Keen made their cycling sandal the same width as their walking sandals. I have the Commuter II and they are too narrow. The Commuter III are very comfortable. I have already worn them on a 125 mile ride and a 196 mile ride. I am looking forward to many miles of use from these sandals.
