Comments about Platypus SoftBottle Water Bottle - 17 fl. oz.:
I have tried the insulated tubes in my pack during ski season, and they are all worthless, the tubes freeze unless you stick it down your neck gaiter. You have to use this bottle for what it is designed special situations where other bottles don't fit or are too cumbersome. It fits great in a ski jacket pocket. In the summer, I would use a tube system from the pack as would most runners or hikers. I have a large soft bottle in my pack and refill the small one in my jacket pocket as needed.

Comments about Platypus SoftBottle Water Bottle - 17 fl. oz.:
Carrying a backpack on snowshoes invites looking for ways to save weight. This bottle allows me to carry it in an inside jacket pocket to keep the water from freezing. It's not a ton of water but it keeps me going until the next stop to thaw snow for a big drink and a refill of this bottle.
Seems to be of high quality and packs up very small when empty.

Comments about Platypus SoftBottle Water Bottle - 17 fl. oz.:
I really just bought this to see if they were worth replacing the heavier Nalgene bottles I carry. After using this for several days I decided it has its uses, but it definately will not be replacing what I carry now.The bottom of the bottle has a "kink" in it whenever it's filled. I feel quite sure this will be where this bottle will have a malfunction. Yes, it's light and easy to carry, but for long hikes, camping, and everyday use, I simply think a good, sturdy Nalgene is the way to go. With that being said, I think this bottles light weight and flexability make it ideal for emergency packs or for the more paranoid hikers who have a "just in case" pocket when hiking... You know the one you put a few things in just in case you slip off a ledge and the only way to save yourself is to sacrifice your pack. With all that being said, I would recommend it for what I just stated. Things where space is an issue, but not for everyday use.
