by fromBig and roomy, but can get very muddy We bought our tent last year and have used it on three camping trips so far. We also purchased a "footprint" for added protection. On two of our trips, there was very heavy rain from severe thunderstorms. We got a lot of mud washed over the edge of the footprint and the inside vestibule area became a quagmire. The mud also washed under the sleeping compartments, but did not enter into them. I expect the inside of a tent to remain dry and not have issues like this. I see it as a design flaw; I think the inside floor of the tent should be sealed and not open to allow water and mud to wash in. Otherwise, I like the tent. It's a good size. The kids go in one half and parents in the other, and there's more than enough room for all of us and gear. I'm considering sealing the floor, maybe by buying a second "footprint" groundsheet, sewing and gluing it to the bottom of the tent, before our next trip. I think our next tent will be a pole-tent, and probably still a Kelty.

by fromAmazing Family Tent We were looking for a two room tent in which the rooms were not attached and had a place for our 83 lb Lab. During our search we came across the Kelty Mach 6 and were pretty much sold. It boasts an impressive 60 second set up, two large rooms with a middle 'mud room', and sturdy construction. We watched the 60 second set up video and were amazed. What's not to love? We ordered it at our local REI and picked it up the next week (20% off as members for their anniversary sale...can't beat that!) Once we got home we set it up. Let's be probably took us 15-20 minutes to set this monster up. It's a little confusing just watching the video. The Air Poles are pretty sweet, but they are not what is holding the tent up, the 300 support lines (slight exaggeration, there are maybe 15 or so lines to stake in) keep it from blowing over. Once those were staked in it was perfect. The second time we set it up we were a little quicker. We are probably never going to set it up in 60 seconds. It was pretty windy the first time we camped in it (not gale force, but probably 15-25mph) and it did not collapse on us. In fact it handled the wind better than our 2 person North Face we use for backpacking (windy summits, anyone?). I probably would not recommend going camping with this in a hurricane. Cons-there are no windows in the rooms. There are vents which do a pretty good job at circulating the air without giving up privacy. The only windows are in the middle section. Also, it's enormous (17 feet long), we liked that it is tall enough to stand up in, but this may be a little tricky to get into a smaller campsite (though I'm not really complaining, I LOVE all of the space). Overall, phenomenal family tent. Our kids love that they have their own space (as do I). Each room can fit a queen size air mattress perfectly. One little tidbit about the footprint. It was a real pain to find. Kelty was sold out. When we bought the tent REI did not even carry it. Once we did find it and use it, it was worth the search. It does cover that middle section where the floor is open, so if you have a pet and don't want them to tear it with their talons, two tarps might be better. (A little note on the pictures: You want to make sure all of the lines are taut. If they sag even a little bit, it will cut off air circulation. Not only are the supporting the tent, but they hold the vents open. I guess the great thing about the vents is that they can remain open, even when it's raining...I like that! Looking at the tent, the left side is correct while the right side is relaxed and not tight enough.)

by fromGreat design, poor reliability We bought this tent hoping for a quick and easy set up for a family of six, and its VERY LARGE vestibule to protect from the elements and hold just about anything. I did not disappoint! In our first trip we had a lot of rain, but stayed cozy and dry. Also, the separation of the two sides was a great feature for our family. Unfortunately, the one thing that concerned me when I purchased it came true. On only our second trip with it, we came back from a day of hiking to find half the tent deflated. I could hear the hissing, but was never able to use the included patch because I could not find the hole! Turns out the very seam of the tube was the problem and was unpatchable. The end result was a shortened trip and a new search for the right tent, this time with metal poles.
