    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

    • Shock-absorbing poles reduce fatigue while improving stability; lockout mechanism creates a rigid pole when needed for more efficient climbing
    • Shocklight shock absorbers weigh less than common spring-loaded mechanisms and won't rattle within the shaft as you walk
    • Internal twist-lock mechanisms apply a wide area of pressure against pole walls to lock in length adjustment
    • With the Stop Lock system, poles won't come apart; system makes the pole sections into 1 unit for security and stability
    • Twist-locking pole sections let you tailor the length to fit your terrain: make them shorter for the way up, longer for the way down
    • Strong 7075-T6 aluminum, 3-section telescoping poles extend to a maximum length of 55.1 in. and compact to 27.5 in. for easy storage and transport
    • Soft EVA foam hand grips have an ergonomic, contoured shape that is easy to hold; adjustable padded neoprene wrist straps add support
    • Fitted with trekking discs and extra-durable tungsten carbide tips; included tip protectors are strictly for travel/packing protection, not intended for hiking

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome poles These poles made a world of difference in the trail I just hiked. I wouldn't have been able to make it past the first day without them due to all the rocks on the trail. They made the hills climbable and provided balance for the downward trek. I have no knee problems today, just foot pain from the rocks. I'll never hike without them again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gotta' Pole Found that the poles collapsed occasionally when not tightened enough. If they're tightened a bit too much, they can be difficult to loosen. Also, it's hard to get a grip on a wet pole. Those are my only negatives. Overall, the poles are well made, sturdy (I weigh in around 225 lb., so I notice). I like the grips too, one side of the strap velcro, one side rubber. People, listen to me!!, poles are so cool! I won't hike without them now. 1.They help you keep your balance. A sprain, or break, out on the trail is no laughing matter, especially if you ever hike alone. 2. You NEED them to cross a stream. 3. They help me set a rhythm when I hike, and I get less tired. 4. They are not a bad line of defense against many critters, 2 and 4 legged. Saw two rattlesnakes on recent WNC hike, nice to poke into rocks, and logs, before you walk over. And we haven't even reached camp yet. Poles are awesome. Adios Muchachos, Vaya Con Dios

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Poles! Overall great poles. Got these discounted at the REI end of summer sale. They are very lightweight, locking and shock mechanisms are very reliable. The only complaint I have is that the locking mechanisms can be a little tight if any small amount of dust gets in there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Poles Great poles, easy to adjust and work well on the trail. They are light and tear down easily to put in backpack when not in use. Great buy for the beginner to intermediate hiker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love These Trekking Poles! I had never used trekking poles before, but will never hike without them now that have. The REI Traverse Shcoklight Trekking Poles are economical and realatively light weight. They felt comfortable in hand and sturdy. The pole segments stayed in place and did not slip under load. But the shock lock tends to come unlocked. I am pretty sure this is the result of how I rotate my grip as I plant the pole and not a defect in the product. The shock lock is secured with a slight twist of the wrist. After all sections of the pole are adjusted to the proper height and tightend down, grip the upper section with your right hand and the middle section with your left hand and twist your right hand towards your body and your left hand away from your body to activate the shock lock. The adjustment is subtle and only requires you to rotate the pole shafts about 3/8 inch before the lock activates. To unlock, do the opposite. I usually hike with the pole shock locked out, but like to have the option available.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fine sticks,be careful with adjustments My first use of these poles, i was trying to retrieve my camp pot rolling down a creek, In my haste I overextended the upper adjustment to far and could not get it back on, thought I broke my brand new poles. My son worked on it a few minutes and was able to get it together and it worked fine. The upper lock adjustment is a little flimsy and you can and I did twist to far. But it all came back together and went up to Dusy Basin(8 mile hike one way) and back. The poles worked awesome. They are lightweight comfortable in the hands( no blisters) and very sturdy. First time using trekking poles on a hike and what a delight, I'll never hike again without them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent poles I use these just about everyday. They are quite strong able to hold up my 250lbs with no problems. These guys saved me from taking a few falls.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value These poles replaced a 12 year-old set of 2-piece REI snowshowing poles. Despite the 3-piece design, they're stronger and lighter than their predecessors. I am a big guy (about 220 lbs) and tall, and I have yet to feel any slippage at all of the locks. The only nit I have with the poles is the mounting for the snow baskets. These are not removable and can occasionally catch in a root or rock if the angle is just right, a problem that never occurred with friction-seated snow baskets on other poles.
