    Osprey Raptor 14 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. rated4.5714out of5by7.
Rated5out of5byfromExcellent All around hydration packI bought this as a replacement/upgrade from my hydration system I had used for the last 10 years. This pack is very well designed and has functioned flawlessly since I bought, except for the lid to the water pouch. There is little grip to get a hold of the lid when it is on tightly and this makes it rather difficult to open at times. Though I don't think this is enough to dock this packs rating for overall. This is really the only complaint I have about this pack. Otherwise it is incredibly expandable and has more than enough pockets and space to organize anything you could need. The design of the water pouch pocket is very well thought out. You can remove the water pouch completely, in order to fill it, with only a single zip of the zipper to the pouch compartment. This and the fact that the water pouch has a rigid back makes the removal/reinsertion of the pouch effortless, even when full. The magnetic valve clip is also a wonderful design feature of this pack, preventing the bite valve from swinging all over the place during cycling, snowboarding, or hiking.

Rated2out of5byfromGreat quality but not for everyoneAs an avid cross-country/all-mountain mountain biker, I picked up the Raptor 14 for intended use as a fall/winter hydration pack. During the fall/winter months, I like to carry extra clothes or have room to store layers as I shed them, whereas during the summer months I use a Camelbak Lobo or no pack, just water bottles. Also, it's nice to have a pack that you can store extra gear for long rides and backcountry excursions. Note that I carry tube and multitool in a saddle bag. Overall, the Raptor 14 is a good pack - sturdy materials and construction make it likely to last a good long time. But it did not work out for me for the following reasons: - I could not find a sweet spot where the straps are tight enough to keep the bag for moving around while hopping logs, etc., yet not uncomfortable in the upper chest/shoulder area. This was in part exacerbated by the stiff back/reservoir, which did not "mold" to the shape of my back. FWIW, I'm 6'2" average build. - Front pocket zipper access on the side only vs. all around. The small access space makes the front pocket nearly useless, though the space is plenty large and there is an organizer pocket in there. This really bothered me. The Raptor 10 does not have this limitation, but that pack is not large enough for my needs. - Shallow stash pocket in between the front pocket and main zippered compartment, didn't feel like items placed in there were secure. Shallow because of the tool pouch on the bottom. - Tool pouch. While this is a nifty idea, and at first pushed me to purchase the Raptor, I determined that I don't use it (tube, tools in a saddle bag and any extra gear in main compartment), and I'd just as rather put tools in the main compartment anyway. Sure, there are occasions when you suffer mechanicals on the trail, but hopefully not every ride, so I don't see the necessity for easy access to the tools (aside from tube, pump, and multitool). Maybe it's just me. - Lid lock. I don't see the point. Things I did like: - Pretty easy to fill/empty reservoir, though it would be nice if the reservoir hose would have a quick connect like the Camelbak. - Magnetic bite valve was pretty cool, but would be nice to be able to route hose over either shoulder (impossible with current design, zipper, etc.). I tried to like the pack because I think Osprey brings some innovative ideas to the hydration pack market, but in the end after a half dozen rides I exchanged it for the Camelbak Mule NV, which I am very happy with.

Rated5out of5byfromfantastic packI use this for both singletrack mountain biking and trail running. I chose it specifically because of the nice padded waist belt and shoulder straps. I am a fairly stocky guy at 5'10" and 210 lbs and all others chafed, rubbed, and cut on runs greater than 5 miles. This gets the job done with comfort and breathe-ability. Magnet on the bite valve is clutch. The first day out had some friends overtly jealous. Probably a little bulky for the gram-counting bikers out there, but perfect for my needs.

Rated5out of5byfromBest Moutain Biking Pack, 2013 VersionI looked at many different packs including models from Dakine, Fox and Camelbak. The main criterion for the pack was the ability to hold a full face (ff) helmet. The Raptor 14 holds a ff helmet well using the shove-it pocket and upper compression straps. See the included photos to see how the ff is attached to the pack. The pack will still hold the ff helmet well with two long-sleeve shirts stuffed in the shove-it pocket. Another great feature that Osprey offers is the magnetic hose holder on the sternum strap. The magnetic holder is great for quick detach and reattachment. The newer Osprey bladders (blue) do not add a plastic taste to the water that I found with their competitors. The valve flows good and has an integrated lock feature. All of the pockets and dividers on the larger pockets make this pack very easy to organize. I can go on and on about how great this pack is…

Rated5out of5byfromFantastic!!!!This is the best pack around. Huge bladder is awesome and super easy to fill. plus has plastic structure to it. large storage but keeps a low profile. lots of pockets for all things. absolutely ideal for me. not just for biking but plan to have it with me for all summer activities

Rated5out of5byfromNew FavoriteI had the Raptor 10, 2012 model, wasn't that usable. This pack is a definite improvement. Much easier to get to the stuff within, pockets aren't so deep, the tool roll is a bonus, sleeve for a pump, big enough for extra gear, small enough for everyday use, easy to refill without removing the bladder, very adjustable and expandable. I've had other packs by other manufacturers, Hands down, this is my favorite, and it's black.
