Osprey Volt 75 Pack is rated 4.5714 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lightweight multi-day pack. I have had this pack out once on a weekend trip. I had it loaded down with gear including fishing gear and adult beverages. It handled/carried the weight wonderfully. It seems to have more padding than most other packs that I have used so very cush on that end. I have another Osprey Aether 75 Pack that has seen tons of use and the quailty/durability seems to be on par with this pack. It also seems to be very adjustable for different torso lengths. I was looking for a large capacity/lightweight pack that was comfortable and Osprey nailed it. I like it better than my Deuter ACT 65+10. I deducted one star because there is not as much ventilation on the back as many other packs that I have used. I think Ospey could have made a better ventilation system with out adding weight to the pack but would have then sacrificed the adjustability of the pack for torso length. Hats off to Osprey. You are so close to coming up with "my" perfect pack. Keep it up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight & great too! I used this pack on a two day backcountry ski trip on the rim at Crater Lake this spring. It worked great and the weight savings was very noticeable compared to my regular Gregory Palisades pack. The adjustments allowed me to snug the pack to my body so it did't swing around while skiing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This gamble paid off My quest for a lighter multi-day backpacking pack came down to this pack or the Deuter 65+10. Both packs were a coinflip because they were so, so close. I do prefer the hip belt on the Deuter because it was made of several different components which come together on my hip better than the continuous padding of the Volt's hip belt. I'm not sure how the two vertical aluminum pole frame supports will do over time compared to the "X" type suspension frame of the Deuter but it seemed to do well on my recent 5 day backpack trip. One key trait that swung me to the Volt was that, under a packed load, the Volt's bag did not sag down over the top of the hip belt like the Deuter did. At this point at the REI store, I was looking for something to set apart the Volt & Deuter pack and this ultimately was it. I think some reviews have expressed issues with the compression straps and how they hinder use of the mesh water bottle pockets but I didn't find this to be an issue for me. The pack is very lightweight but I don't feel that the fabric is delicate, During my maiden trip, I had to sling the pack over and under old growth logs and even took a spill off of the trail. I haven't noticed any premature wear on the pack. Overall, I'm very happy with the pack. If I could improve anything about the pack, I'd have a hip belt that's made up of several padded sections (for a real craddling fit) and I'd make the load lifter straps behind the shoulders a little longer because the existing ones can be hard to reach when loose.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Osprey Does it Again... This is my 3rd Osprey pack (I also own a Waypoint 85 and a Flapjack Messenger) and they never cease to amaze me. I'll never buy another brand again. I've only just bought this pack but can tell after loading it with ~30lbs and tromping around a bit (including coming back inside and practically dancing with it on - can't think of another pack I didnt *want* to take off) that it fits my long torso better than any pack I've ever had and certainly better than any trekking pack I've used (a number of them) ... Often there is soemthing about the way many packs position the weight naturally that pulls excessively backward because my torso is longer which becomes a constant feeling of having to 'lean' forward to compensate. For this reason I've never like internal frame packs as much as external - I still have my ancient REI external-frame one and have been considering switching back to it. The weight being positioned higher eliminates that feeling for me and for long distances I find them inifitely less fatiguing.. That is until I wore this thing around. It is HUGELY adjustble as well and a custom fit is very easy to dial-in, the adjustment itself being easier and faster than any pack I've ever picked up. My one complaint might be the back padding and lack of much ventilation there at least in comparison with other designs Osprey and other makers have. But that is such a nitpick I'm hesitant to mention it... I'll just deal with the sweat-soaked back of my shirt like myself and everyone else has always has... besides, our fabrics are quick-dry these days, so not too worry. :) I'll be happy to report back on extended actual use of this thing, but I've gone enough miles with enough packs to know that at least from a carry standpoint that it should be very positive. Cheers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holds Bear can sideways, versatile I hike mostly in the Olympics where bear cans are required, and I'm always looking for a pack that will hold a can sideways. The BV500 fits sideways in this pack, and fits perfectly in the bottom compartment. It will also fit sideways in the top or middle, although at that point you are putting pressure on the water bladder if you use the built-in bladder compartment (which I love-it's between the frame and the pack, no more unloading, and holds a BigZipSL3L just fine). I am used to top loaders and really love the convenience of grabbing the can out of the bottom-- a lot of users want their can in the middle, but I've found that it rides nicely in the bottom of the pack without dragging the pack down like some of my other packs. I purchased this pack as an extra to loan to my nephews/friends due to the fact that the hip and shoulder belts are adjustable from large (big guy) to small (skinny teenager) with ease--overall frame height adjusts easily without tools. What an amazing pack to buy a growing teenager, boy scout, etc, or to keep as a loaner. I ended up loving the comfort and ease of use of this pack and bought a second for a loaner. The hip belt is comfortable and doesn't loosen while hiking, but it isn't as 'dry' in the belt and back as some of the higher end Osprey packs when it comes to sweat. Rides great. I am used to cordura and other more expensive fabrics, and must admit I am not in awe of the fabric appearance (or the strap materials) but the color is nice and the seams are very strong. It is surprisingly light for all of the features you get, and you can shed a few ounces by removing the lid, although you don't get a tight closure at the top of the main compartment like a lot of other packs--no roll top/drawstring but not a big deal. I found that in the summer I don't carry enough gear to fill this thing, so I can lose the lid, but it's nice to have the extra space for clothes in the winter or wet seasons. You will have hard time finding a better deal on a great pack, especially if you can find a sale. I am now an Osprey convert and look forward to some of their higher-end packs coming down in weight with new model years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great pack! Just got this pack a week ago. Used it for the first time this weekend. Could not me more pleased. It lightened my load by over 2 pounds. Still have all the carry space I need. Looking forward to many years of happy hiking with this pack.
