REI Half Dome 2 Plus Tent is rated 4.5862 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm In Love! My boyfriend and I are on a budget and spent a lot of time researching tents by size, weight, and price and we finally decided to go with the Half Dome 2+. We're both around 6ft tall with broad shoulders so finding a decently priced, lightweight, 2 person tent that wouldn't have us sleeping at an angle with our gear outside was quite a problem. The set up was a breeze, it has color coordinated instructions for easy set up, it took us maybe 8-10 minutes our first time and now that we now it we can set it up in less than 5. The inside is massive! Normally, you have to sit right in the middle of a tent otherwise your head or shoulders are hitting the sides. Not in this tent! The sides are straight rather than curved and it makes all the difference. We could both sit up with plenty of head room to play cards, even changing and packing up inside was a breeze with both of us in there. We haven't used it in any crazy weather (all luck) but the important thing for me was how breathable it was. My boyfriend and I are the type who keep a fan in our bedroom all year round so we kept the rainfly open to keep it cool. It wasn't nessecary! We actually woke up in the middle of the night to close them and slept great with just the roof vents open and there wasn't any moisture on the walls of my tent in the morning. The weight is a bit much for one person but this tent isn't meant for one person, we split the weight and it's only about 3lbs a person. I seriously can't say enough good things about this tent, seriously, I'm in Love!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality Tent I've used this camping in the woods and on a sandy beach. It has handled both perfectly. The tent is lightweight and very breathable (which is nice in the summer). It comfortably fits two adults with room to store some gear. The rainfly is effective. I camp in a windy region so I highly recommend replacing the stakes with better quality ones (at least 8 if you plan to stake down the tent and rainfly well). You'll also want to buy extra guylines to properly secure everything. If staked properly, the tent holds up very well to heavy winds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't get any better!!! - Extra space of the "Plus" is NICE! - Super Easy setup, - lightweight, - just enough space for 2 people and gear under fly on each side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Tent Couldn't ask for a better tent for the price. Went camping again for the first time in a long time. I used to go often, then life catches up and things like camping and getting out of town get more and more difficult. I hadn't set up a tent in at least 5 years, maybe longer, and so was a bit apprehensive about setting up a new model one, but found it to be very intuitive. It took all of five minutes, even without having done it in so long. We decided not to use the rain fly that first night as there was no forecast for rain, and we wanted to see the stars. Of course shortly after falling asleep, it started to rain. Bolting awake in the dark, dodging rain drops, never having used this rain fly, or even having opened it up to really look at it before, it took about 2 minutes to have it firmly attached (except for the small velcro loops on the inside, which I had no chance of seeing in the dark). The next evening, a huge storm appeared from over the mountains suddenly. Wind howling, rain coming in sideways. We had to make a mad dash for the tent. Fortunately I had taken the time to set up the vestibules, and vents during the afternoon. My wife and I were able to comfortably sit in the tent with our dog and wait out the storm. No noticeable condensation, good airflow with the vents open. Due to the clever construction of the vents, we were able to leave them open during the storm and still had no problems. The doors to the tent were large and convenient. Very glad though that we opted for the larger Plus size tent. The extra weight is negligible when you are having to spend the evening in your tent to wait out the rain, and have your pack and dog and whatever else sitting in the tent with you. All in all, I think that we made the best choice for what we needed for our trip. For those that complain that it is a bit cramped, buy a larger tent. This is clearly designed for two people, no more. If you are traveling with a small child, like it or not, that small child is technically a third person, get a 3 person tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beats Passage 2 and Half Dome 2 My older son just crossed over into Boy Scouts in a troop that welcomes dads to join the monthly campouts but leaving the boys plenty of space to learn the outdoors with their peers. I only had the Kingdom 6 for our family so I needed a 2 man tent for myself and gear on such trips and hopefully plenty of others. Store employee, CJ, at our store in Conshohocken PA hooked me up by allowing me to compare the Plus to the REI Passage 2 and Half Dome 2 tents in the store. I chose the Plus for the following reasons: SPACE - I am 5' 10" and found the standard Half Dome 2 and Passage 2 to be a little short. With my head very close to one end, my toes were almost touching the other side. Keep in mind when considering base dimensions that tents taper inward as they rise up. This space really came in handy in August when my I paddled to an island in ADK with fabulous spaced out campsites with my 5 and 11 year old sons (see pic). The little guy slept across an end and there was still room for me to stretch long ways. It was a little tight but it's a two man tent, right? I think the 3 of us could even get away with sleeping next to each other in the same direction for another year or two. There's no way we could have swung this in the other two tents in my comparison. STRAIGHT SIDES - This feature speaks for itself. The Half Dome tents feel much more comfortable when dressing inside, etc. due to te straight sides. It's a feature that's worth the money. The setup is quite intuitive for anyone who has put up a tent before, and easy for me to do alone. OTHER FEATURES - I also like the pockets at the corners and the top, the 4 vents on top, the vestibules on each side, the shape of the door which allows one handed operation if you stake the tent out tightly enough, the fact that it's easy to get the tent back into the case even with the footprint and that the case has some compression straps. NOTEWORTHY: Footprint: People have criticized the footprint. I have no problem staking it with the grommets as is. The footprint size does seem to be a little short and the case mentions it is so that rain does not collect and go between the tent and the footpront. So the edge of the tent can get wet a little on the outside if it contacts grass, etc., but I don't think it will weep in because the edges of the tent are somewhat rounded from ground to sides and the bottom coating goes up several inches before the seams for mesh or side walls. Stakes: Enough stakes are included to stake out the fly and 4 guy lines but then there are none left for the loops at the bottom of the two ends. So buy at least two more stakes. People complain about these stakes. They are not the strongest but they are very light and I have not bent them, simply by repositioning instead of trying to drive them through roots or rocks. Condensation: On one trip to Maryland in September, the inside was full of condensation even with the vents open; the grassy field we were on was soaked with dew and the night temps were around 45-50. On another trip to northern PA in October, the inside was completely dry even though the ground was damp; temps were between 40-50. So I say condensation just depends on the weather (maybe relative humidity)and this tent is as fine as any other in terms of condensation. Maybe a little long winded but you can see that I am very pleased with the Half Dome 2 Plus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent!! This tent is light and sturdy. It has enough room for the two of us, our dog and our packs. It is really easy to set-up and take down. I like how adjustable the fly is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Camper Bought this tent for myself after a couple of backpacking trips, and sharing the Half Dome 2 my brother bought. He first owned the Half Dome 2,sold it and purchased the Half Dome 2 Plus. This tent is very spacious for 2 people. My daughter and I had no problem erecting the tent, but were unable to get it packed nicely back into the storage bag. The price of the tent, ease of erecting it were the biggest selling points for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Performer Have used this tent for three years in the Cascades. Easy setup, roomy, big vestibules. This tent is bombproof when all the guy lines are staked. No condensation problems so far. My only 'complaint' is that it is heavy. We split it between the two of us. (Fly/Poles & Floor/Tent/Stakes) Gave it five stars it is a great value.
