Rated4out of5byfromSurprisingly good tent for the moneyWE REALLY LOVE THIS TENT. Here is why: Girlfriend wanted a roomy tent to enjoy easy car camping. This tent fulfilled her dreams: Roomy for two or three, or a couple with two kids, a little tight for four adults with gear. Tent is SO EASY to set up that she, a rank beginner, set it up alone. About 10 mins with my help. We got it on early-season sale for under $200. BEST FEATURES: Five-foot tall interior allows for less crouching than many we tried. This really matters on long road trips. The fly can be multi-configured for comfort and coverage. Door is HUGE, allowing entry L or R, or both for easy walk-in through the lifted 'lip' design. Black mesh covers tent ceiling, for excellent stargazing. Door has opaque material 2/3 way up (as does entire tent) so privacy is assured while changing when fly is off. This is an often-overlooked yet excellent feature that my girlfriend REALLY appreciates. (She happy=Me happy!) Addition of two hiking or ski poles into fly door grommets allows for safari-style covered entrance. Fly door can be rolled up on one or both sides for easy variations, yet still allows for covered vestibule. Really good guy points, breathability and very sturdy, though kinda blunt aluminum chiseled stakes. (I re-ground mine into dull round points. Black mesh runs easy so take care of it when packing. Orange guy lines highly visible. Comes with extra guy lines and a pole-repair sleeve. Carry bag is generously-sized, allowing for extra items to be kept with tent. (we pack a foot wiping towel, mini whisk broom, vestibule groundcloth and even 1/3 of a discarded yoga mat for comfortable kneeling once inside!) Tent is about 8' square. (really) MINOR GRIPES: Tent does NOT come with ground footprint, but is absolutely recommended to protect floor. Figure it into your purchase or get a 10x12 tarp for $10 and learn to fit it under the tent every time. Four generous interior mesh pockets at front corners, not back where we much prefer them. No biggie. Tent could benefit from an extra stake point on mid-length of rear edge. That is floppy no matter how tightly staked. Tent can collect rainwater behind "lip" at front, so best to punch it off before exiting to prevent roll-off. Again, no biggie! Tent base is just a tad rectangular, so fitting g round footprint can be confusing: Remedy is to take a Sharpie and mark the FRONT and which side goes up as the coated side is not easy to recognize. Fly could use some window material high up on front side to observe campsite once zippered in for the night.

Rated1out of5byfromDesign flawAfter spending ten days camping in Colorado's surprisingly strong monsoon this year (eight days of strong rain), I can report that this tent has a design flaw. Above the door on top of the rain fly, water pooled continuously. I adjusted the rain fly as much as I could, but could not stop it from pooling. There seems to be an easy fix in the design: instead of the rain fly dropping down and then rising to the door (the iconic design of this tent), if the rain fly was sewn with a "ridge" from the top of the tent to the top of the door, water would just roll of as if from a duck's back. Other than this, I loved the tent, especially when paired with the Alcove. I didn't like the InCamp shelter as it is too enclosed. Unfortunately, the pooling is a deal breaker and I will be returning it to REI.

Rated4out of5byfromVery good car camping tentThis is a great tent for car camping, but would be way too heavy and bulky for any other use. The construction is adequate, but requires the use of stakes to tighten the floor completely; the poles do not do it by themselves as has been the case with most tents I've used. The awning is a good idea in principle, but since the poles need to be staked with guylines, there's no way you'd want to undo it every night and re-attach the lines in the morning. If you leave the awning up, you're completely exposed. I had been hoping to use the awning, but ended up not using it at all once I realized how much work it was going to be, and that people would just end up tripping over the lines anyway. Other than the issues above, I really like it. It's big and roomy, and swallows my 4' x 6' crashpad with ease. I've used it on two multi-day trips so far this year, and am very happy with it.

Rated3out of5byfromOkay, but will be returning itBackground: I purchased this tent to use for two music festivals this summer. I also purchased the two additional REI Adjustable Tarp Poles, and some additional guyline, with the intention of creating the awning pictured and described. While all-in-all the tent was okay (quick and easy to put up, and made of quality materials), in my opinion it has four significant flaws (all three are somewhat related). 1. The door does not have an opaque piece of material to zip over the window. 2. If you create the awning, you are always exposed inside the tent, since the door window is see-through mesh. (You're not going to want to take the awning up and down since the poles need to be rigged up with guylines that need to be staked to the ground.) 3. If you do not stake up the awning, there is always a second piece of material (the rain fly) in front of the door. This means you need to dual zip in and out each time you need to get in, which gets annoying quickly. 4. There are no windows inside the tent that can be zipped open and closed as needed to observe your surroundings. Therefore, you must unzip both the door and the rain fly and then push the fly out of the way to see what is going on outside. The tent was otherwise satisfactory, but I'll be returning it due to the strange window/rain fly design.

Rated4out of5byfromGood TentUse for car camping with two girls, 8 & 6 yrs old. We can set it up and break it down pretty quickly, plenty of room for 3, possibly 4 but tighter. Fits the bill for 2-4 people, light, quick, easy.

Rated5out of5byfromEasy set upJust got this yesterday and immediately set it up...in my living room. It's a lot bigger than it looks on the website. It easily swallowed my king-size air mattress. I have to say that as a 51-year-old who has been camping all his life, this is the epitome of easy set-ups. There's just three poles, and they are shock-corded together so there's no question about putting them together. Only one of them has to go through a channel. The other two just poke into grommets and you clip the tent to the pole. Easy 5 minute set-up with one person. The fly was just as easy, only problem is getting it oriented properly, which isn't that hard if you look for the end with the zipper and put that by the door. I bought this tent because of its wide front door and amazing amount of ventilation. The only cons I would give it: 1. It's not tall enough for me to stand up in; 2. There was lots of thread and little pieces of fabric left inside. I can't vouch for its waterproofing yet, but wanted to get a review out so others can see this is a nice little tent. A few more pros: 1. I like the two interior pockets and the hang loop, amazing they make tents without these; 2. It comes with a nice bag that actually holds everything.; 3. I like the way the fly door turns into an awning...you will need to buy not only the adjustable tarp stakes, but also something to use as a guy line, these aren't included. Also be sure you get the 6 foot poles, I messed up on this and ordered 8-footers, they don't adjust down enough. 4. The view with the fly off is amazing. Can't wait to get this outdoors.
