Rated5out of5byfrom3rd and hopefully last packThis is my third backpack. I liked the other two ok, but needed a bigger pack for a 12 day trip. Started out with 58 pounds (too heavy!), but it carried easy. The two weeks went too quickly and the pack was never an issue. It's so comfortable, I sometimes want to go packing just to wear my Crestrail 70. If I was still a kid, I'd sleep with the thing on.

Rated5out of5byfromAwesome!!!!!!!I am a novice backpacker. Ive hiked almost everything the Smokey Mountains has to offer and never carried much more than a gallon of water, 6 stripped down MRE's and a tent all stuffed in my old army rucksack. So when I decided I was going to backpacking, I started looking for a pack and finally decided onthis one. Boy was it a good pick. I bbought the pack Saturday morning and by Sunday morning I had filled it with 50lbs of stuff and hit the trails. It was windy and raining. 15 miles later, my feet were killing me but my back shoulders and neck were A OK. Not even soar at all. And my stuff stayed dry. Only thing is when the straps got wet they slipped a bit. More than worth every penny.

Rated5out of5byfromOn of the best packs I have ever had!I have had this pack for almost a year, and have put it through the ringer. It has seen 105 dessert temps to -60 from the recent polar vortex, rain, snow, sleet, hail, and mud. This pack has had everything including the kitchen sink thrown at at. With that said, the zippers are still waterproof, still hold strong, and there are no rips or tears in this pack. WOW!!! There is enough room for me to carry gear for others. The comfort of this pack is nothing short of AWE-INSPIRING! This has become my go to pack when not going light weight!

Rated5out of5byfromSimply the Best Pack I've Owned.....I bought a Flash 62 and spent the next week wondering how I was going to destroy it. It's nice but waaaaay to thin a material for me and for the smashing I was going to give it trekking around Thailand for 2 and half weeks. I took it back and went with the Crestrail 70 on the recommendation of the manager at my local store. It is not the lightest pack in the world but it is holy smokes durable. It was wet (outside only. major plus), muddy, beat up, checked on 10 planes, stepped on, dragged and even had shampoo explode inside. Aside from some dirt on the outside and the interior smelling like flowers from the wife shampoo bomb, it is in great shape with ZERO damage. There is more storage than you can think of using and all of it is ridiculously easy to get at. The side zippers are a major plus when you need to grab stuff without having to open the lid and empty the bag. Load balance is amazing and the weight rides well on your hips. We walked the streets of Bangkok for almost two hours with a full load and a camelback pack clipped to the front with absolutely no discomfort or hip/shoulder fatigue. Would I recommend this? Yes indeed. It may be time to retire my old Kelty Trekker 65 and make the total switch to this bad Larry. Awesome job REI. I love this pack.

Rated5out of5byfromGreat all around pack!!!This is the firt backpack I've ever purchased for hiking. My buddy is an even bigger hiker than I am so I usually used a few of his other backpacks. His packs are slightly outdated and heavy. He is planning on upgrading his packs as well. He is considering this pack after seeing how it performed when I went on my last trip with him. I recently went on a 5 day hiking trip on the Foothills trail in SC using this pack. The REI Crestrail 70L performed wonderfully on the trail. It is easy to pack and there is plenty of room and pockets to store all the necessities. The REI Crestrail 70L pack is a great all around pack. It is not the lightest pack on the market, and not the heaviest either, it does make up for weight in comfort. The hip belt straps are nicely padded and do a great job of bearing the load on the hips not the shoulders. The shoulder straps are nicely padded and comfortable as well. The load-lifter straps also help keep the pack snug against your back so your pack does not sway as you hike. The airflow system on the back of the pack does keep your back pretty cool. I sweat quite heavily anyway, but with my buddy's old packs, it was ridiculous. The REI Crestrail 70L does a pretty good job of keeping your back dry and cool. You will always sweat where the pack makes contact with your body. That is a given. To reduce sweat wear moisture wicking fabric shirts and shorts or pants. The compression straps are very sturdy and durable and do their job nicely. I really like the stretchy front pocket on this pack. I kept my MSR water filter pump in this pocket so I would not have to open the pack up for any reason during water re-supply. The water bottle pockets are big and roomy as well. They seem to be made out of the same stretchy material as the front pocket on the pack. I took two 32oz bottles and there was still room. They also have little compression pulls as well to sinch down the bottles. The loops for treking poles is a nice bonus to this pack as well. Only issue with this is that you will need a buddy to strap them on to the pack if you do not want to take the backpack off. If not, just take the pack off and put them on the pack. Not really an inconvenience if your hiking buddy or buddies don't mind. The hipbelt pockets are awesome. I have read and seen videos about the Osprey Atmos hipbelt pockets and how difficult they are to load once you have the pack on and strapped down. The hipbelt pockets on the REI Crestrail 70L have a really nice stretchy material that allows you to pack them while you have the pack on. They are similar to the material of the pocket on the front and water bottle pockets of the pack. I kept my camera and snacks for the day in them so I could eat on the go. This is also an added bonus as it saves time. Only stops were to eat lunch, water re-supply, and bathroom breaks; and picture moments of course. Overall, this pack is sturdy and does the job. Like I said before, it is not the lightest pack out on the market but it is very comfortable. My only complaint is the zippers are pretty tough. That does not mean they are faulty, they are just hard to pull and may snag due to the solid build quality and water resistant materials. If you don't go NASCAR on them, they will not snag. Slow and steady wins the race! I really like this pack. I have used it on only one extended trip thus far, so I cannot comment or review on its durability. Although its durability on this 5 day trip was amazing! I also cannot comment or review on its water resistance as it did not rain at all during our trip. But living in Florida, I am sure this will be tested soon enough. Everyone packs their packs differently and desires different features on backpacks, so do your research based on your packing and hiking style. This is a great product from REI and would recommend it to anyone as their first or even last backpack.

Rated5out of5byfromLove it.I love this pack. I have taken it on 5 short backpacking trips and have had no problems with it. This pack has all the bells and whistles that I wanted. I did not have to compromise, nor do I feel ripped off on the price. Do not put too much pressure on the zippers or you can blow them out. That will only happen if you put it to the extreme test. I did on the front pocket and the zipper blew out. I simply ran the sipper head over the separated part and it aligned itself. I have continued to stuff the pocket really tight with no malfunctions.

Rated5out of5byfromGreat Price Quality Pack!!!I purchased the long and it was very easy to adjust to my torso. This is my first backpacking bag so it took me a little while to get the bag adjusted just right. I also learned that one of the buckles is also a whistle. The bag is constructed well and it was easy to get the water bladder in and out. Overall it is a great back pack.

Rated5out of5byfromWell worth the moneyI pack 45lbs plus for 6 days on rough trails and found the Crestrail 70 to be comfortable. This is the first pack I had that after a long day hiking I'm not sore or bruised.
