The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles - Pair:
I have owned my Z-Poles for about two years now, and have used them on four or five backpacking trips. The best thing about them is how light they are. The second best thing is how easy they are to extend. The lack of length adjustment hasn't bothered me at all.
My only real complaint is that snow baskets are not available. My first hike with the Z-Poles involved climbing some icy snow to the peak, and I jury-rigged Black Diamond's accessory snow baskets for their other trekking poles to work with some wire, but it was a pain. However, the review that says that the baskets are not replaceable is incorrect; only the one style is available, however, and REI does not sell them.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles - Pair:
I just returned from 5 days hiking in the Annapurna District of Nepal. These poles fit neatly into a carry-on bag and are super light.
They were the envy of my trekking group (all women.) One woman was even going to return the poles that se had brought and buy these.
The limited height options might be a problem for some, but I was fine with the shortest size.
I find the tips hard to change, but this would not deter me from buying these poles.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles - Pair:
This is the 1st hiking stick I have purchased and used. It seems quite durable given its light weight. My only real complaint is it can be a bit difficult to get a good grip to lock the poles in place with wet hands or sun screen interfearing with your grip.

I use these poles for both day hiking and backpacking. They are very light and very strong. The foam handles are very comfortable.

Was not obvious on literature/by looking at that baskets were not replaceable.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles - Pair:
I love the z-fold aspect. They compact down to a travel size, without being too expensive.
I was weary at first about the design, thinking they'd either come undone easily, or they'd be weak at the joints. Nether is true. The locking mechanism keeps them pulled tightly so they can't fold up while in use. Also, they've held up to a couple stumbles where I've put a lot of weight on them, so I know they aren't weak, either.
The only downside is that they are not adjustable at all. Keep that in mind, and if it doesn't pose problems for you, I highly recommend them.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles - Pair:
Held up well for me with a too-heavy (aren't they all) pack on a R2R2R hike of the Grand Canyon last June; always felt secure with them, they maneuvered well and they're lightweight. One must be okay with two and only two positions on the grips, rather than infinitely-adjustable telescoping poles.

Comments about Black Diamond Distance Z-Pole Trekking Poles - Pair:
Sometimes I want hiking poles when I'm on vacation in Central America. Traditional hiking poles don't pack very well in a 22 inch suitcase, so these fit the bill. Because they are aluminum, I wrapped them in bubble wrap to prevent damage while traveling in a suitcase. They are nice and lightweight and fit easily into a day pack when not in use. Assembly is quick and easy: fit the pieces together and the pull up on the grip until you see the pin come out.
