Comments about REI Carbon PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
Loved these poles while doing a section hike on the Appalachian Trail. Very strong, great handles and straps. Easily adjusted pole height and strap length.

Comments about REI Carbon PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
Purchased on Friday , and encounters to mt rainier's camp Muir on Saturday I loaded the poles with upper body weight when transitioning from snow to a rock band, and the hollow center section buckled and shattered...what one would expect from fiberglass, not carbon fiber. The locks are strong, except for the lower section that will only lock in fully extended position. Grips are good and comfortable. Very light.

Comments about REI Carbon PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I chose these over the Black Diamond Carbon poles due to the lighter weight and greater extension length. The Black Diamonds appear to be quite a bit stronger but I am gentle on poles and have never broken a pole in my life.
The lower section has to be fully extended to the stop line or you risk a sudden and unexpected collapse of the shaft. The lock cannot hold the lower section where the pole is tapered. Eventually it will give way. Pretty scary when that happens. So as long as the lower section is fully extended the poles work great!

Great, strong poles. Grips are a little large for womens'/smaller hands. Very strong and lightweight though.

Comments about REI Carbon PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I got these to replace my "REI Traverse Trekking Poles", and they have worked great. Unlike the other style, these locking mechanisms actually stay in place, keeping the poles at the desired length! I've used these for backpacking, as well as hiking over rocky, icy terrain where a lot of weight is put on them. So far, no complaints!

Comments about REI Carbon PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
I broke the middle section of these on a trip to the Arrigetch Peaks in Alaska. However I am extremely hard on poles and have snapped aluminum and carbon poles in the past. I got these a couple of months ago in CA before going up Mt Shasta because I am always looking for lighter gear. They work well for most hiking and trekking that I do. I conditionally recommend these because of the light weight.
If you are looking for a heavier duty pole for more aggressive use, I would recommend the Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork (also at REI). Going strong after several years of abuse.

Comments about REI Carbon PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
On a recent trip through the Roan Highlands in NC/TN, these poles performed flawlessly. They're extremely lightweight but very sturdy. The locking cams guarantee that there won't be any slippage when you are forced to place much of your weight on a solitary pole. I was very impressed and very happy with this purchase.

Comments about REI Carbon PowerLock Trekking Poles - Pair:
Worked like a champ. Hiked Old Rag in VA and then the Chilkoot Trail & Mt Ripinsky in Alaska, and they performed well.
There were lots of opportunities for them to fail in AK, but they worked great. Easy to adjust straps on the fly, when I put on a pair of gloves, or took them off. They also worked great to take some of the pressure off the knees on all the downhill. I would buy another pair of these.
