    Purchased this for my wife and she loves it, she wears it when it's cold and to add a little style to her wardrobe. Not really made for protection against rain but more to keep your head warm which is what you want from a beanie. Good quality like most everything you'll find at REI.

      I use this hat as my daily cool/cold weather head insulation. It's perfect as is for cool weather with it's ear warming strip inside, and slightly loose knit on top for that little bit of air flow. In cold weather, I'll just throw up my hood. If it gets really cold (read: Chicago in February) the hat is loose enough to fit well with an under cap and face covering. All in all, a pretty smart hat for the money.
