    Novara Verita Bike - 2014is rated3.8out of5by5.
Rated4out of5byfromMakes commuting funI have several hundred miles, a little over 500, on this bike at this time. It took about that long to get the comfort factor right, including breaking in a Brooks saddle. If you've ever done that, you know it takes a couple of hundred just for that. It makes a great commuter, Surprisingly easy for me to transition form my '70s and 80s down tube shifters. The Sram shift really smooth, so going from a 12speed to 20speed was nothing. I really like this bike for an all-around, get-around bike.

Rated4out of5byfromA great bike with some minor issuesI love this bike! I bought this bike in 2012 and I have used it as a daily commuter nearly every day since. Additionally, I have taken it on a couple of long-distance tours (couple hundred miles) and it handled just fine. It's faster than a true touring bike, due to the gearing, but not quite as fast as a street bike. However, what it lacks in speed it make up for in comfort. The steel frame on this bike responds well and provides a nice ride. Although I love this bike, there are some reasons why I cannot give this bike five stars: 1) The stock saddle is extremely hard, do yourself a favor and get a Brooks right away. 2) The rear eyelets for a cargo rack are right in line with the rear brakes; which makes attaching a rack very difficult. I noticed this after I purchased this bike and I took it in to the bike shop at REI, the technician—after several attempts to make it work—ended up just modifying some pipe clamps and making it work. It doesn't look great, but it gets the job done. 3) Regretfully, the last bit has less to do with this bike and more to do with the bike shop at REI. I love shopping at REI, and most of the time I find their staff to be knowledgeable, but I have not been impressed with their bike shop. When I first got this bike the chain kept falling off. I took it in to the REI at Tustin THREE TIMES in the first week I had it before they finally got the adjustment right. Since then I have tried twice to get it tuned-up at the REI shop—first tune-up is supposed to be complementary with the bike purchase—but every time I take it in the technicians tell me that it will take more than a week to do, so I just take it to a local bike shop that can get it back to me the next day. Overall, a great bike with some minor issues.

Rated2out of5byfromgood looking bike but has some problemsI bought this bike to commute on and do some light touring. The bike rides nice and fast and the gearing is great for North Texas where I live and ride. It is labeled as a touring bike so I was assuming the Wheels & components were built for touring and to withstand the weight and punishment cycling with all the gear can subject a bike to. After riding the bike for one week of just commuting to and from work with a light load of clothes and my packed lunch the rear wheel became severely warped. Upon closer inspection multiple spokes were very loose so I took the bike back to REI to have them adjust and true the wheel. The REI service department did a great job truing the wheel and got me back on the road. About a week later I started noticing that my rear brakes where rubbing and again the rear wheel had become severely out of true. I again take my bike back to REI and this time they did a wheel balance and truing but this time they suggested that I may need a better will if I'm going to be carrying weight. This time the wheel stayed true for about two weeks before it started rubbing on the brakes again. I took the bike back to REI for a third time and the service manager told me I would need a new wheel if I was going to be riding with weight. I explained to him that's why I bought this bike. It is supposed to be a touring bike and should support the weight. He gave me prices on an upgraded wheel and trued it yet again and this time I left while thinking about whether I wanted to buy a new wheel or return the whole bike. On the way home from work the next day one of the shifters broke . This time I just took the bike back to REI and returned it for a refund. The bike I bought was a 2013 model but the components are all the same as the 2014 model. I do not recommend this bike it your are going to be actually touring or commuting on it.

Rated5out of5byfromExcellentChoose this over the Randonee, as I liked the SRAM shifters and the overall look better. I've taken it on a few hundred miles of light touring so far. I like the ride, it handles high speed descents well, feels solid, and the weight isn't too bad. Shifting is crisp, and the bike has a lovely look to it. It has excellent heel clearance for panniers, and handles the weight of panniers well. If you're planning on doing self-supported touring, I'm not sure the compact/32 rear is low enough. I felt like I needed a lower gear going up 7+% grades with a load. On the other hand, at that point, you're getting to the "get off and walk" stage. If I was planning to go on a long bike-packing trip, I'd go with the Randonee or Long Haul Trucker. Also, I couldn't fit 700x35c tires, so if you want the fat rubber, look elsewhere. And the saddle is truly awful. Plan on replacing it, though it does have a "Brooks" look

Rated4out of5byfromLove it so farI'm very happy with this bike so far. It's my first road bike so I don't have much basis for comparison but I've been really enjoying it. I've been using it to cruise around town and ill probably do some casual group rides as well. It's probably not ideal if you plan on doing any kind racing. My only complaint is that the fenders rattle like crazy. I'll probably take mine off.
