    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

The North Face Surge II Daypack is rated 4.3929 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easily good enough, but not quite ideal This is a modern-day briefcase. It's got a nice pocket for a laptop. The pocket only opens to one side, which is not as annoying as I expected. (I'm a lefty and expected it to feel "backward," but I quickly adapted.) After a month's use I find that the many pockets suit my needs fine -- one for electronic paraphernalia, one for things like my lip balm and epi-pen, one for emergency rations, one for basic office supplies. I like having two separate "full-size" pockets in addition to the laptop pocket. However, I find I still struggle some to find the right set of zippers to open to get whatever it is I'm looking for. That said, the zippers are heavy-duty, which I like. My biggest complaint is the small handle on the top. I frequently want to pick up the pack and tote it without slinging it over my shoulder, but this little handle really makes that hard/uncomfortable. It really puzzles me that they didn't make this better. After all, any bag with a laptop in it (plus folders, books, etc.) is going to be heavy. A minor complaint is the wimply little ribbon with a tiny plastic key clip on the end. I'd love to have a clip (or loop) inside one of the pockets so I could clip on a carabiner. I have lots of gadgets on cord loops that I like to carry that way -- USB stick, case for phone headset, small flashlight, etc. Overall I find the pack meets my needs for serving as a portable office. It's well built and decently organized. But I'm hardly in love with it. I looked hard -- even bought and returned two other packs while searching for this one. I kept this one, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for "the one."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and durable I love this bag! the only thing that I was skeptical about before I bought it was the fact that it doesn't have a strap to hold the laptop in the pocket. This is not a concern anymore because it is very well padded and isn't able to move much with books and such in the bag and the adjustment straps on the sides keep the laptop and everything else nice and snug. I researched a lot of bags, and I am happy that I spent the extra money to protect my laptop and keep myself well organized. I hold two college books and two bidders and a 15.6 HP laptop, and everything else I need for school. The pocket opposite the water bottle is especially nice for keys and wallet, its secure and convenient. The outer pockets with the vertical zippers are large enough to hold my power cord in one and my calculator in the other. I highly recommend this backpack!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My Urban Daypack Being a full time student and being employed full time means I use this as more of an urban daypack than anything else. It fits my laptop, shoes, a book, notebook, day planner, and all my other daily essentials. It feels very comfortable and fits everything just fine. I also really like the daisy chain on the back which allows me to hook on tons of stuff. The only "issue" I had was the small side pocket with zipper had a lot of loose threads on the inside of the pocket. I took a lighter to them, easy fix.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Daypack All around amazing backpack. Boyfriend was overjoyed when we received it. Was like a kid in a candy shop, over a backpack. I literary couldn't get him to stop talking about it. Said it was the best backpack he has ever owned. Comfortable for women also. Great for a day trip up in the Hawaii mountains.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mobile Desk I'm somewhat of a pocket snob and this back pack has all the pockets that I need. The laptop pouch is extremely padded and there is enough room for a 17" laptop plus some extra room. I also like the way that the lap top section opens from the side. The backpack is pricey, but you get what you pay for.
