    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by fromOn the fence This pack is geared more to school or office. The main compartment is to narrow and will hold maybe 2 big books. I was looking for something more versatile for hiking and overnights with work in 2nd place. The capacity is plenty, you just lose a lot from the main compartment. i put it as expensive for avg.

by fromNF Surge II This pack was a selection I made over looking and testing multiple packs w/ the same/similar options. The quality, durability and engineering that went into this pack put it in a class well above most others and I look foreward to many years of service from it.

by fromClose to perfect for my needs Zippers are the Achilles heal of all these packs, and they are OK but not perfect on this one.

by fromGreat Mutlifunction Backpack Large, smooth operating zippers make getting into the many compartments easy. Plenty of room for laptop, accessories, electronics, papers and EDC items. Even when full it sits high and tight to your back with strong, wide shoulder straps - very comfortable for walking. Have had it now for 6 months and still looks and works great. 2 Drawbacks: - Haul handle is a thin, fabric loop and has no real rubber "handle" or wire rope. I'm always afraid of pulling it out when storing it on a hook or when lifting it up when full. - The pack does not have a flat bottom and does not stand up freely. It flops over easily to front or back when empty - a pain especially when putting things into it.

by fromGreat Day Pack I got this for school and often have to bring a lot of textbooks and notebooks plus a computer. I have a very long torso and this sits really well on my back, giving me plenty of support. Love all the pockets and haven't had any trouble with zippers. The only thing I think could be improved is the carry handle. Since I can put so much stuff in this pack, the handle feels flimsy and cuts into my hand on days I'm carrying a lot.

by fromSurge II - the sequel is just as good. I had the original Surge for many years, and it still works great. I didn't even consider replacing it, since it lasted so well. I got this upgrade to Surge II as a gift and it's just as good as the original. The front pocket with compartments is better on this version, so all my pens and accessories are better organized. The only negative is that as a lefty, the right hand-biased zipper on the laptop sleeve bugs me. Overall, it's a great successor to the original Surge.

by fromAmost Perfect I purchased this pack primarly to protect a new 15.4" computer that my wife and I are sharing. The pack is beautiful and has plently of room for the laptop, a tablet, notebook, cables, and accessories. It is extremely comfortable when worn. My only complaint is the size of the grab handle at the top of the pack. Although it is very sturdy it is only about 1/2' wide. A wider handle would be nice.

by fromteamleal I wanted a bag that could handle 1) the gym, 2) 3 day trips, 3) a laptop, 4) mountain biking, 5) day hikes. It was between this and another bag. This bag has done well, so I'm sticking with it. Here's the lowdown: 1) It works well enough for the gym. There's no vents for wet clothes though - I think there's a SOC bag that has an exterior compartment, but other than that, there's not much else. 2) Packed it with a laptop and 3 days worth of clothes. The separate laptop compartment is EPIC during the airport security checkpoint. Took it to a conference, and had just enough room for everything. Also, the zippers are heavy duty and easy to engage. 3) Fits a 15" laptop with room. There's a power cord pocket on the side (in place of the 2nd water bottle pocket). As noted in 2 above, the access to the laptop is easy - so if you need an all-in-one bag - this is a definite contender. 4) Still gotta use this on a mountain bike. The back is breathable - but its a big bag. I'll update this after the first ride. There is no bladder option on this bag (unless you hack the laptop area). 5) Used it on a all day bike ride (easy riding) with friends & carried a 6 pack of beverages with ice. Totally comfortable. Given that, it'll probably suffice for any day hikes. An added bonus is that it has a fleece sunglasses pocket - which makes glasses easy to find - as long as you put them back. : ) Overall, I would recommend it - its a workhorse. If you don't want the laptop space, then there are other options - otherwise its pretty good.
