I bought this for a weekend camping trip when I couldn't find the nice Pack Towel brand towel that my dad gave me 15 years ago.

I bought the REI one because I was feeling cheap and didn't want to splurge on a real Pack Towel when I had one at home that I'd eventually find.

When it came time to use it, I was very pleasantly surprised. I only use it to dry my face, since I like to have a separate towel for that, even while camping. It was wonderfully soft and absorbent, and actually had a better feel than the Pack Towel I thought I loved. It's hard to get a good feel in the store of how the towel will absorb water and feel on the skin, and I was a bit skeptical, since it's a different texture than the felted, chamois-style that Pack Towel uses. I'm actually considering buying a bigger sized REI towel to replace the Pack Towel.

I also wanted to comment on a previous reviewer saying that the towel bled dye and giving it 1 star as a result. You do need to prewash any camp towel (or any fabric designed to come in contact with your body, really.) Washing it first rinses out any extra dye and chemicals used during manufacturing. It was also probably sprayed with chemicals before it was shipped to the US to keep bugs and mold off of it in the shipping container. Do you really want to rub chemicals and extra dye on your body? NO! Run it through a quick wash cycle. This is true of any dyed fabric, and isn't a flaw of the product.

Use your noggins, folks.

The textured fabric works perfect when showering/washing with bar soap plus its lightweight adds almost nothing to your load when carrying a pack.

This thing bleeds green. It's is like Kermit cut his throat and will not stop leading green blood. It is a piece of junk and does not preform as advertised. [*] Do not buy is item.
