Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:

Excellent, versatile poles. The locking system simply works ~ without fail. In the past year, I've used these poles on more than 40 hikes, ranging in distance from 6 mile snowshoe trips (with snow baskets) to a 23+ mile day hike in the high sierras. I usually don't notice the shock absorbing action, except on occasional decents. The grips are extremely comfortable to me ~ enough so that I don't wear gloves. The poles collapse nicely into my pack when not in use (rare).

One last thought... when hiking over granite or otherwise extensive rocky terrain, I prefer using the (optional) rubber soles for better traction. Oh yeah... I've also marked my poles with red marker to quickly adjust for uphill, downhile and level terrain. Sure makes it quick and easy to transition.

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:

Bight these for my girlfriend and I at my local REI store and they work fairly well. I bought me to use on intermediate to difficult day hikes and (possible) Iight skiing. They worked great for the 5 miles we used them on and expect to get a whole lot more out of them. Flick-lock is super easy to use, and at 6' they feel great. The trail shock absorber is a little odd at first, but does reduce some strain on the elbows. Handle is not cork but does fit very well in the hand and the padded wrist straps do ease the cord pressure around the rist. One draw back is They don't come with a storage sack but shrink up enough so it is not a big deal.

All in all, I'm happy with my purchase!

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:

I researched trekking poles extensively before my Glacier NP hiking trip last summer and these are what I chose. I love everything about them! This summer we are hiking Yosemite and I purchased these same poles for my friend, new to major hiking, and have fit them to her. I think she'll be very pleased!

Comments about Black Diamond Trail Shock Trekking Poles - Pair:

Just took delivery today and unpacked the poles; so the three star rating isn't based on usage, just initial inspection.

Issue 1: Out-of-the-box, the flick locks were way far out of adjustment, two locks were very loose and two were much too tight. I know, the adjustment takes only a few seconds but still...

Issue 2: The left pole's upper flick lock was installed on the wrong tube; both flick locks were on the middle tube resulting in no locking for the upper. OK, here again the fix took only a minute or two but come on guys, these poles cost over a hundred bucks - is the Malaysian quality assurance team that careless?

Issue 3: Not really an issue yet but...the weight savings seems to have rendered these poles somewhat flimsy - maybe yes, maybe no, but out of the box, and based on my experience, I think the shafts will kink during strenous bushwacking.

Design: Seems like an otherwise well thought-out design.

By the way, I have always been a big fan of Black Diamond products, I just have a few reservations about this one.

Would I recommend these trekking poles to a friend? Maybe?
