Comments about REI Flash 65 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
Took this pack on a 4 day hike through Maine and was impressed with it's simplicity (leading to lightweight) design, but it's also well thought out. From the numerous loops to allow attachments to the safety whistle on the sternum strap to the bilateral ports for water bladder, thought has gone into every part. I was a little worried about the durability given the light weight, but it's held up nicely. The lack of a bottom zipper for sleeping bag was initially concerning, but using sacks to subdivide my load works better anyway.

Comments about REI Flash 65 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
I am a Boy Scout leader and I have been looking for a pack to replace the REI pack I bought back in the early 90's. I have been looking around at all the different styles and manufacturers. A friend got this pack and showed it to me on a campout. I feel in love with it. My wife ended up giving it to me as a birthday gift. I am really impressed with all the little features and how lightweight it is. I have only used this pack once or twice, but I really like it. I will be going to Philmont with me next year!

Comments about REI Flash 65 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
This is a good pack. The only bad parts are that there is no rain cover for it (I just bought the Sea to Summit Ultra-Light Pack Cover - Medium, which works great) and that it doesn't have a separate sleeping bag compartment.
Overall, this is a great pack for the price.

Great lightweight pack that can adapt to a variety of trip requirements. Would recommend for loads under 35 pounds. Love the side and shovel pockets. Many attachment points. Only flaw is the compression system that could be a bit better. Otherwise hard to beat at this price point .

Comments about REI Flash 65 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
This is a lot of bag for the money, and very lightweight. Adequate for a several-day trip, but light enough for a day trip. Very comfortable with the loads I've carried. Would've liked a separate pocket for sleeping bag. Overall, very pleased!

Comments about REI Flash 65 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
This pack is amazing. I am glad i used my dividend on this. It is extremely lightweight but the suspension and padding is amazing. I wish it had an access panel at the bottom but it appears it is fixed in the flash 62 pack. I loaded it up with 40 lbs. of gear and the seams worked well. Although it is not entirely weatherproof it will keep your gear dry long enough to pull out your pack cover. Overall i give this two thumbs up and thank REI for this great product

Comments about REI Flash 65 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
I purchased this pack used prior to the announcement of all the awards it received. I was first drawn to it because of how compact and how darned light it was. I am constantly looking for deals on lighter and more durable gear. This pack has held 30 lbs like a pro [5 day trip] but I am usually running it at 20 lbs for a 3 day trip with no probs.
Pros: lightweight, many versatile compartments/straps, small, adjustable, hydration insert, cheap!
Cons: Zippers tend to stick sometimes [luckily without tear so far], belt straps are sewn in so no replacements

Great foundational bag.
If you are looking for a no frills, bombproof bag, this is perfect.
I am a mountain guide in Wyoming, and I never felt like this bag was inadequate. I've been on major treks all over northern Arkansas, West Texas, Northern Arizona, and Colorado, and this bag is still holding strong. The features you are forfeiting are a sleeping bag compartment, built in rain tarp, external pockets (the front stash pockets are not super practical), and lots of compression points.
What you get is the best bang for your buck on the market. It has incredible durability, super lightweight, breathable backpanel, lots of comfort, solid suspension, and it covers all the essentials (great cinch down top, lid pocket, front stash area, water bottle pockets, hip pockets, external tie down points).

Comments about REI Flash 65 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
This pack had dozens, maybe hundreds of reviews before it went to the outlet section of rei. Be nice to see them again.
I needed to lighten my load. I'd decided on this pack. I found it good in keeping the load off my butt, except that all the straps on the first one seemed to slip . I exchanged it for another. Things seemed to go ok until I'd loaded it past 30 lb. Then the hip straps slipped, requiring adjustment every 5 minutes or less. The upper load adjusting strap slipped just a bit, though not annoyingly as with the first 65 I'd bought..
I haven't taken it out for an overnight yet b/c it rains so much, but in many day hikes with 30-35 lb loaded the straps just disappointed me. I can fix a lot of things, but this I'd prefer done right at the drawing board
The weight of the pack is exceptionally light at under 3 lb for medium. No problems with the organization of the pockets, tho I don't think the hydration in any pack is well thought--I don't like the water to go into the main bag--I'd prefer it out of the main bag, higher and closer to my head or neck. That'd allow it to leak on the outside of the pack, when it does leak.
I can't endure a pack whose straps slip with a moderate load--this pack will go back to REI.
