This shelter is very versatile, and can be set up and adapted to almost any campsite or location, from the beach, to the desert, to the mountains. It is a little tricky to set up, but with practice, it gets easier each time. I would highly recommend viewing the MSR set up video on the REI site before use. I would also recommend buying a couple of REI adjustable tarp poles. This will allow you to create many configurations for almost any site. I use 12" steel nail stakes instead of the supplied stakes, for a bullet proof set up. It packs up very very small, and is relatively light weight. Perfect for car camping. Maybe a little heavy for backpacking, unless you split the components among several hikers. Yes it is expensive, and that is why I can only give it 4 stars. However, if you want a very large, very durable, very versatile protective tarp, nothing comes close.

Used the Zing on a 4 day trip in Canyon lands NP. It packs very small considering it's size when pitched. It's very easy to set up and very sturdy even in the wind when done right. It provided some relief from the direct sun although at peak high temps it does get warm underneath -but still better than no protection at all. I have yet to try it in the rain. A great shelter for car camping that seems like it'll withstand rain and wind better than other models. Plenty of room for our group of five and has an option for addition poles to open it up a bit. My only complaint is the price -Expensive and additional poles from MSR are [$]. Wait for a sale or coupon!
